Hey Guys,  Haven't been on here in a million years but, since I've been away I've had some luck. All these fish were weighed and released. The picture at night was at Chickasaw Gardens. 7lbs

  • Saw this one crash the bank on some shad. He took the squarebill in two casts. It was so windy, I had to cast it inland to get it to fall in his zone a few feet off the bank. 3.2lbs, Johnson-fountains

  • Recent catches since Sunday. Top-3.8, bottom left-3.6, bottom right-2.9. All on t-rigged worms of different colors, all between 8:30am and 10:30am. Johnson Park ponds.

Anyone been to Herb Parsons Lake?  My Father in law wants to go there tomorrow while he is in town.  And as seeing how I'm still not familiar with the area since I've moved back to Memphis I was wondering if anyone has any thing good to say?

Anyone having having any luck lately at any of the Shelby Farms ponds?

Hey guys, try cordova country club! it has been closed down now for a while and is used as a place where people mostly walk there dogs. I pulled out a 5lber like two weeks ago and have been to caught up with work to go lately! The good lake is the one with the wall you can see on your right headed towards gtown rd. And dont be discouraged by all the dinks, they are in there.

Fished on Thanksgiving morning for my first time since September.  Hooked a few small ones, but nothing to write home about.

As the Memphis ponds grow a little more quiet, I'd like to propose that if you have a chance, take a ride to your local Memphis pond and bring a trash bag.  A few of the shorelines are looking pretty bad with trash.  Last year I filled up an entire contractor trash bag just at Daycare Pond.  These places are special to us, let's make sure that we take care of them.

My wife, baby boy and I went to Johnson Park in Germantown yesterday and my wife convinced me to bring a rod along.  Tied on a RatLTrap and off we went.    Fished the eastern pond with no luck.  Moved to the western pond and picked up 2 two pounders right after each other around the pier structure.  One had a really ugly looking wound on its side but seemed otherwise healthy.  Weather was great!

Nice!

A lot of people call traps an "idiot Bait" because you can just chuck and wind it, but I also heard a pro say once that he calls it that because you're an idiot if your not throwing one when the water's cold :)

I've heard the same but never saw any luck with them.  I was letting it sink to the bottom and then pulling it a few feet and letting it sink again.  Both fish hit in the retrieve which was opposite of what I expected.

The biggest largemouth I've ever had on the line came on a chrome/blue back original rattle trap on a pumping retrieve, in a small pond on Plantation golf course down in Olive Branch-in January, around 10 years ago.  My buddy had a house on it and we could fish it in boats :)

I didn't land that bass but it was all of 11 lbs......I shoulda changed out the hooks on that plug!!  That was also the ugliest live bass I've ever seen, it looked like a 50 year old wall-mount like you would see in a bait shop somewhere, it couldn't have lived for long after that day.

Anybody ever had any luck with golf courses? Just curious. I've wanted to try fishing one before but just never really know when a good time to go would be.

The trouble with golf courses is getting permission.  It's going to be nearly impossible if you don't know someone who works there, there's just nothing in it for them to allow people to fish there.

From their viewpoint: At best you might only be a nuisance to the paying golfers....at worst, it could become a big liability issue if someone got hurt or drowned.

Fortunately, there are plenty of other public pond options in this area.  There is a ton of free and completely public water in Shelby county, and most of it is hardly touched.

Hi everyone, New to the site, have been reading through this thread, and found a wealth of info, thanks for sharing. My buddy, cousin and I tried the ponds behind Chik fil A on Dec 26 and my cousin hung this nice 5 pounder in the second pond behind Chik fil A.

Hey Dan, that is my cousin Jeff, we both live in Brighton, where in T-County do you live Skeeter Dan? We fish Glen Springs a lot and hit Edmund Orgill some, we have a couple ponds but not many, we are looking for some new waters to fish and I stumbled on this thread. Maybe we can meet up sometime and get on some ponds. I was at a private pond in Atoka yesterday Jan 2 and caught this pig. 7lbs

Thanks FishWitWiz, my cousin caught the one behind Chik Fil A on a square bill crank, black back, chartreuse, and white belly I believe. The one I caught yesterday in the 2nd pic was caught on a 6" Zoom Junebug trickworm (texas rig). Both were released safely back, hope too meet some of you guys soon, everyone seems really friendly!!!

That's a nice fish

If you're wondering what to throw around the local waters, the jig has been good to me lately.  A Siebert's Dredge jig with a Sweet Craw skirt and Rage Bug trailer in Bama Craw is reeeeeeel purrrrrrrty!

That sir is a nice fish.

Thank JDJ hope to hit some of the waters soon and thank you Skeeter Dan!!!

I fish Central park and Olive branch park but mostly Central park 90% of the time .

I have caught 1 good fish in the 4 to 5 lb range so far .

The only thing I can tell you is work your lure real slow and put the wind to your back to get some extra range.

Fished Daycare this morning for an hour, got a real lively 1-pounder on a slow rolled spinnerbait.  Lots of green, slimy algae from the shoreline out to about 10 feet.

It's that time of year again that the Memphis ponds need cleanup, so if you go out to your local favorite pond, please bring a trash bag.  Daycare gets especially bad because of the dumpster in the parking lot to the west.
