Best Line For Flippin/pitchin

Featured Replies

After reading numerous articles and threads, I still cant decide on whether to put braid or fluoro on my flipping rod. A lot of articles beat around the bush with IFs and BUTs. I know everybody has their own opinion, but surely there is evidence out there as to which line is better? I was thinking about using braid, and using for flippin, and frog fishing. Is this practical?

i use both braid and fluoro for flippin but honestly i like flippin with braid a lot more especially in grass mats. i use it in crystal clear water also and still catch fish so its obious that fish really dont care about the line. if i were you id go with braid.

I have used my flipping rod with braid for frogging/ flipping before buying a dedicated frog rod. I still flip with braid.

I use braid for pitching and jigging. Alot better for dealing with the weeds and mat.

I use both. Daiwa samurai 70# braid and maxima 25# fluoro. I dont have any problems catching fish on braid in ultra clear water either.

Braid 99% of the time. Most likely your flipping into some sort of cover and the braid will easily blend in with the twigs, grass, logs, ect. Plus you can use the same rod for froggin in a pinch. The only time I use flourocarbon for flippin is if I'm fishing clear water with alot of angling pressure on the fish and not fishing grass.

If you go braid, you can always use a uniknot and add fluro leader, so with braid you can pretty much have both.... You can add a 30' leader and while you have braid, it's pretty much backing if you decide you need to use fluro...

You can get away with fluoro for most flipping applications. However, if you are going to go froggin with the same setup, use braid! Fluorocarbon and frogs just dont go together due to sinking qualities, some stretch, and inability to cut through grass. Braid will float, near zero stretch for better hookups, and cuts through grass and thick weeds to help hoarse out the big ones lurking in the thick nasty.

I only flip and pitch with 65lb suffix performance braid, I absolutely love that stuff!

I flip and pitch with 20 ib flourocarbon. I fish a very rocky lake so I didn't want to take the chance of the rocks cutting the braid.
