Shimano Core Spool Disassembly

Featured Replies

Does anyone have any experience in disassembling the brake holder from the spool on a Shimano Core (or any Shimano for that matter)? I am looking at purchasing the Avail microcast spool but I will need to use the brake assembly from a stock spool. I would rather just purchase a Yumeya BFS spool but I can't find one in stock anywhere. Thanks in advance!

Not to say it can't be done, but the Shimano spool is not designed with disassembly in mind. If I were you I'd keep looking for the spool you really want.

I kind of had that feeling when I was looking at it, but I wanted some professional insight. On the japantackle website it says to use the brake holder from a stock spool so that's why I was asking. I guess I'll have to keep a eye open for the Bfs spool. Thanks DVT!

I believe it's press fit, but no way I'd touch that mod with a ten foot pole.

Well, if you won't touch it then I won't either J. I'll hold out for the Bfs spool. Or, should I just sell the Core and buy a Pixy? By the time I purchase the spool I'll have close to $450 in the Core.

I had a feeling you would suggest a Daiwa reel lol. I might have to give it a try

Or you could use my secret weapon for light baits: a $70 spinning reel. Just sayin'

How dare you suggest such an outlandish thing!!! Spinning reels for light lures.... Outlandish I tell ya outlandish!!!......lol

PX Type R......

How does this compare to a core 50? Do you have/used both?

I've been looking at buying the PX R but I only have one Daiwa and am not overly excited about it.

PX Type R......

X2!

Either way you can't go wrong but the PX in my hands has the slight increase in performance still ( assuming both are stock :) )

I've only handled one, and not in pieces or on the water. Can't say, but since it's basically a souped up PX68, it should make a great reel even better.

If you don't like Diawa, take a pass. These reels are very Daiwa.
