Visiting the In-Laws Lake House in Pennsylvania in June and was wondering if anyone had some hints and or help for first time smallie and long time largemouth fisherman.

the green fish baits will work for the brown fish too.

The way the weather is here now by the time you get to the in-laws house you may be better off going after the largemouth depending on you access to a boat. I fish the Susquehanna and Juniata rivers for smallies in the summer, I also fish a few lakes that contain them and I can tell you they head do deep water and are hard to catch that time of the year. If you are going to be in a boat you will need a good sonar unit, if you don't have that then target shallow points with mid depth crankbaits, football jigs or hit the shallows using jigs or some type of soft plastic. The reason I tell you that is those places and techniques will get you bit by a smallies once in awhile, forget topwater, June the smallies have gone deep and can be caught with a drop shot but without sonar you won't be able to find them.

stick with spinnerbaits and senkos for lake smallmouth.... those two baits can catch smallmouth in any lake i ever fished so

if your talking about raystown lake or wallenpaupak throw the most realistic colored jerkbaits you have. or drop shot brushpiles

More information is needed besides what state.

Regardless of the location, basic smallmouth lures always include these:

Fat Ika, 3 1/2" Gitzit, single tail grub, hair jigs, crankbaits, flukes

soft swimbaits and jerkbaits.

i live in pa and like everyone else gotta be specific i fish the conodoguinet all the time since its in my backyard and my got to is any type of craw bait in green pumpkin with a little orange tipped on the pincers matches the locale forage perfectly and big bronzes smash them

Most of the bigger rivers in PA, including the Main Susky, West Branch of the Susky, Juniata, and Allegheny are fantastic smallie fisheries. They are wide and shallow rivers, look for rocks and fallen timber that block the current. For lakes I'm not that familiar with them, but normal tactics should work. This time of year, concentrate on mornings and evenings with topwaters and spinnerbaits, and later in the day drop shotting, deep running cranks, lipless cranks, and grubs and tubes fished on heavier jigheads.
