just wondering if anyone uses buzz baits in the spring. if so when do they work the best ,what water temp , early morning , late day or does it matter when.

heck yeah!! I like the water to be 60 degrees or more but I know guys that will use it sooner. I like it early or late or anytime it is overcast. My favorite is a cavitron black on black.

Can't beat a Cavitron Black on Black early in the morning or early evening.

I use buzzbaits and other topwaters from spring through fall, under under all conditions from bluebird skies to heavy overcast and rain. You might be surprised how often topwaters get hit in midday, sunny conditions.

I rarely use topwaters below 60 degrees but have caught them. My dad once insisted on throwing a buzzbait all day when the water temp was 55 degrees. I caught more way bass than he did on jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, jigs, and plastics, but he caught two, his only strikes of the day, and both were 5 pounders. My biggest fish of 14 of the day was about 3.5, most of the rest 1 - 2.5 pounds.

The more weedgrowth and shade you can find, the more likely topwaters will work during the middle of the day. My dad and I once threw nothing but buzzbaits during 95 degree weather in the middle of the summer, calm, sunny conditions, and nearly every cast got a bass. Never have duplicated that since.

_{When it hits 50, if fish are shallow, they'll eat it. I love throwing a big buzzbait early spring, and locally a lot of bigger sacks and big fish are jacked on them early in the year. If they're shallow the bite can be all day, and you can get burnt by a guy that locks one in his hand for 8hrs.}
