Snakehead/froggin' Rod

Featured Replies

So my girlfriend picked up a casting Ugly Stick for me to use as a rod to fool around with, it's a 6'0" Heavy Action Rod, really heavy duty with a fast tip, good backbone. I have been needing a rod to use for snakehead as I do not want to break one of my finesse rods on a silly snakehead. I was wondering if this will also make a fair frog rod, it's a little short but I think it's pretty accurate when it comes to casting, I'll be putting an Abu Kalex on it.

Way too short, and you are NEVER going to be able to bury the heavy frog hooks into the bass's mouth with a whippy Ugly Stick.

alright thanks man! I'll probably use it for heavy stuff, large traps and live rigging. Snakeheads are going crazy this spring.

For what it's worth, I've been killing them with frogs, even though there's not alot of cover in the Potomac yet. On my Avid MH/F it seems to be a good match

I have an old BPS tourney spinning rod 7' med 17# rod, I was using it for bonita and kingfish offshore years ago that was sitting and collecting dust. I put a 4000 spheros reel and 20# braid and I use it with frogs for snakeheads, catch a lot of bass with it too. I don't fish frogs enough to go make a major investment, this rod does the job.

IMO this is a better application for this rod
