Havent seen much of them but what are the advantages to using one?

Glass rods have a slower, more parabolic action which may help you get fish hooked on crankbaits into the boat. But there's no free lunch. They are also heavier and are less sensitive than graphite rods. Some like them, some don't. Rods can be made from a variety of materials and there are also crankbait rods made from a composite of fiberglass and graphite. I'd recommend trying a fiberglass or composite rod before you buy one.

Give the Dobyn's Champion CB 765 Glass rod a try, most don't realize it is a glass rod until I tell them.

They do make graphite rods for crankbaits which acts more like glass but why buy something that acts like the glass rods when you can get glass which is not heavy or unbalance like the older rods.

Ive discovered what you lose in "feel" can be made up for by watching the tip on a glass rod. Im a big fan of them personally. Everything I use mine for the rod is pointed down anyways, so the weight aint a deal breaker.

For deep divers and big lures I like the Lamiglas SR705R.

The original advantage of glass rods over graphite rods was the fact they bend so much. the first couple generations of graphite rods weren't capable of having the parabolic action that glass rods could because the graphite would be to brittle. once engineers learned how to make graphite more flexible, the graphite crankin rod with invented. Current technology allows graphite rods to be just as bendable and able to throw baits just as fair as glass rods. This however doesn't make glass rods obsolete thou.

Basically the advantages of glass rods is that, for the most part they are heavier, slightly more difficult to break and less sensitive. Should any of these features appeal to you, by all means, you should get one, maybe more than one.

I have an old shimano aero glass rod, matched with a Shimano Sidestab. It has wonderful flexibility with my crankbaits.
