I recieved my free Trokar hooks yesterday in the mail and they sent me 1/0 EWGs. While I was putting them in my tackle box I noticed they were very similar to my 2/0 EWG from Bass Pro. I stacked them and noted that the Trokar 1/0 hook is actually longer than then Bass Pro 2/0, both are EWG. The Bass Pro has a slightly bigger bend than Trokar but the Trokar is slight longer. Has anyone else noted a difference in hooks from manufactor to manufactor? is Bass Pro smaller than advertised or Trokar larger than advertised?

Yeah they are all a little different. Just styles in a brand are different. As a jig builder when someone wants a certain hook in a jig I also run into eye sizes varying quite a bit for similar size hooks.

Yes they will differ in size. Learned this the hard way when I switched hook manufactures.

The problem we have in the fishing industry is that nothing is standardized.

Standardization of tackle has not been accepted by the manufacurers so a 1/0 Owner hook can be the same size as a 2/0 Gammy and the diameter of a 12 pound flouro line from P-Line differs from a 12 pound flouro from Berkley.

Until the industry gets together to set standards to be followed by everyone you will have to have a sharp eye to note the differences.
Ignorance can be corrected. Stupid lasts a lifetime.

Until the industry gets together to set standards

Standards are what stifles innovation. I still use common sense and my own two eyes to decide which hook to use. Now with all the internet shopping, people can't tell what to get, unless someone else who has tried it first hand tells them to use a "such and such" brand hook in 3/0 size. Thankfully, that same internet brought us fishing forums where it's easy to find someone that has done the homework for us.
Everything in moderation.

Yes that's what makes internet shopping hard...unless you have used the items and know what it is your looking for. I like ordering online but only the things i know, other items i have to see in store in person.
