In one instance when you weren't fishing?

Yesterday I was done fishing and driving back the path and decided to stop below the bridge to look into the water, saw some guy throwing in and well we started talking and he told me he was starting to get more serious into bass fishing this year. I spend over a half hour helping him out with the techniques he wanted to use and explain the types of old and new tackle he had in his new box, what locations to try and what to look for in the water to determine a better outcome. Seems like the time flied by, but I know it was the longest time I've ever talked to anyone about fishing without fishing.

Does the fishing isle at Wal-Mart count? ;)

I do it a lot and sometimes a lot longer than 1/2 hour, and don't mind helping when I can.

Applies to me too....However unless I have to be somewhere else by a certain time.

I'm careful as well about locations though...I've had 2 good spots completely ruined by opening my mouth.

During the summer, when the stripers start schooling, there's usually a lot of boats in one place. Sometimes it sounds like a beauty parlor out there.

I've had guys with bass boats ask me about my how I fish on the water, I find it absolutely hilarious since I'm 16. I just know my river well. I think the most I've talked to a guy as about and hour and a half.

I've talked to people for hours when I worked in the fishing department at Cabela's. I don't mind sharing what I know with people and I like helping people that are just getting into the sport or trying to learn something new but it's time consuming explaining some things. I also had people who knew a lot of tricks and spots that I didn't know about that would share with me after they learned I was willing to share with them, I've met some of my best fishing buddies that way.
Is it spring yet??

spent an hour and half talking with a gentleman in Walmart a couple of weeks ago, he looked about 60 turned out he was 85 a WWII Vet South Pacific campaign and was still infected with the bassin bug. Gave him my number and told him anytime he wanted to go I would be more than glad to take him. It was a very fast hour and half.

seems like everytime I go to Bass Pro, someone will stop me and say "I hate to bother you, but you look like you know what you are doing", and then I help them with whatever they need. Then my wife asks me why I spent soo long in the store, and of course she thinks Im lying to her when I tell her.

I got stopped by an IDNR cop at the ramp last year. He checked my jon boat and asked if they were biting. I shared some pictures from my camera, then he shared some pictures from his phone. A third guy came over and shared what worked for him. Nobody gave away any specific spots, but the information I gained helped me find more fish the next time out.

I've learned a lot from this forum, but good local knowledge is priceless.

I usually just ask if they are catching any. That can turn into a good half hour talk about fishing though. Whenever Im at the store I always want to ask people if they need any help but I feel like they might perceive me as being a know-it-all jerk. Especially at Dicks. None of the workers there seem to know anything about fishing. I need to get a job there so can help people, and get discounts on tackle.

Depends am I going fishing or coming back from fishing. I'm more out to talk longer when I get back talk about what worked what didn't. On the way out its more or less good luck leave some for seed.

No, I usually don't speak with people when shopping for supplies or while on the water.

I will speak with the guys at Green Top for a few minutes and say "hello" to anyone on the water that I come into contact.
