Hello all,

I purchased a Lew's Speed Spool a few weeks ago and am having problems with what I believe is the worm shaft (its the small metal bar running across the frame above and slightly to the front of the spool). Every now and then I'll notice that it has come loose and can slide back and forth slightly. I just pop it right back into place, not a huge problem. This isn't supposed to happen is it? Is it something I can fix or do I need to return it?

Thanks

Is the end threaded? Its not coming unscrewed, just popping out

Edit: checked the diagram, neither end is threaded. Its either in or out, not tight/loose

Sure a Shimano that'll get redsigned next year be obsolete and not be supported with spare parts the year after that.

Um...Shimano parts dont change. They are always available, and have withstood the test of time. I think you might be confused with the potential future of Lews. Shimanos redesign was just cosmetic. Internal parts are still the same, only difference is no knob bearings, but you really dont need them anyway. 11 bearings doesnt help if they are cheap bearings. :Victory:

All of the older speed spools had a screw on both side of that stabilizer bar holding it solid.... :Victory:
Now days they could have changed the design to have an E-clip on each side holding the stabilizer bar solidly.
You would have to remove the side plates and check the frame to see for sure....

Good Luck & Tight Lines! :fishing1:

A poorly maintained reel can cost you fish, just like a dull hook, frayed lines, and a poor technique can..-

Yeah right always available. That's why they offer no support for Curado Ds since the year the E came out. Cant even get parts for current C14s.

You can get any parts you want for Shimanos. You have to know where to go. Only true Shimano anglers know the secrets. Or you could use the internet ;)

Perhaps you should make yourself more familiar with the shimano website. Take a look at the long list of reels they no longer support. Very recent additions to there history are included, like certain models of their flagship model the Calais. You know the one that came with a lifetime warranty ..............

Hearing you attack Lew's then praise the almighty Shimano got old after the 3rd thread.

You've succesfully turned a thread asking for help with a reel problem into a thread about parts availability and a brand war.
