Its a 1988 javelin bass boat with 100hp Evinrude. With a new trolling motor and trailer. Has been garaged kept its entire life so he says. The picture looks real nice. Need some help though guys. Ive been searching for my first boat and wanted it to be a jon boat b/c of price but this seems like it could be a deal to good to pass on? Thoughts?

100 HP motor seems small. I think that boat should take a 150. Just a thought to consider. Also Javalin boats went bankrupt in 2001.

Since they went bankrupt what does that mean? Would it not work well with a 100? Thanks again.

What does he want for it? $1,000 or $10,000 is a big difference.

I dont see anything wrong with this....it might be underpowered, but you sound as you have little experience and it is better to have less rather than more in the horsepower arena while learning...My "Training Wheels"in bass fishing was a brand new TX-17 Bass Tracker whick I paid $10.000 for  and being an aluminum boat was a great teacher of respect for the water. I learned even more about fishing water thouroughly as my small engine limited my reach. So for the price this is a great trainer!!

Actually, you need to check the CG Data Plate, I think the boat is only rated for a 90. With a 100 on it, if you have to insure it, they may not do it. Also, some states will fine you if they happen to check it and see it's over powered. As for value, being a F/S, I think that would be on the extreme high end. If the boat has always been garage kept and looks almost new, it might be worth it, but I would consider offering $1,600 and maybe meet in the middle.

Check the year again.  I looked it up and the 366 fish and ski, according to what I could find started being produced in 1989.  And it was rated for upto 110.  But, iboats could be wrong.

Looks like a very nice old boat for 2K but looks only get you so far. Will he let you take it somewhere to run it or have a mechanic look at it? I got a nice looking older Ranger for 4K several years ago, but it never ran well and I basically had a 4K dollar dock with a trolling motor.

Is it spring yet??

My opinion is that the motor alone is likely worth almost the entire price tag. However you have virtually no front deck.

You can't buy a boat too cheap. Boat stands for "Break-Out-Another-Thousand". The worst he can say to your offer is no. If it's been garage kept he might be very "proud" of his boat. I don't know much about boats but do your research. As far as a "good deal?", that's subjective and every person has their own opinions. The guys on here sound like they can give you good advice. Good luck!

If it's as nice in person as it is in that pic $2000 is a pretty good price.  Of course it wouldn't hurt to see if you could get it a little lower.  Those old Evinrudes were great motors.
