I hunt on Catahoula Lake. The entire lake is about 2 1/2 feet deep with wild oats growing in it. It is one of, if not the best duck hunting lake in America. The downfall to that is that there are blinds every 275 yards apart across the lake. There must be between 600-700 blinds on the lake. You have to have atleast 500 decoys to compete out there. It gets expensive and time consuming, but its well worth the 476 ducks I killed out there last year.600 decoys? I thought my four dozen was a lot!

I am putting them out Wednesday morning and they will stay on the lake for the entire season. I aint about to put out and pick up 600 deocys every tripDo you need an extra trailer to haul those decoys around? Hope you don't have many magnum, foam, or flying deks!

Sounds like we need to find a place like Fanatic! By the way, what are you hunting down there? Is there a particular dominant species, or is it mixed?

We've killed 8 woodies, a green-winged teal, and a goose so far this week. Been trying to get the mallards, but that ain't happening, so tomorrow morning we're going to unleash on our woody hole.

Mallards, Gadwall, wegion, lots and lots of pintail out there. Woodducks, teal, and just about any kind of duck in between. BTW, Fanatic and I are from the same neck of the woods and yes it is an amazing place to be during duck season. Although I hunt about 10 miles north of the lake in a cypress swamp and it was dry as a bone last year and its not looking very good this year. Its a little more wet than last year but not enough for us to hunt at our hole. KINNA LOOKIN FOR SOMEONE TO HUNT WITH ON THE MAIN LAKE. "hint" "hint" Josh....... j/k If we get a couple nice rains, maybe we can hunt our hole this year. I'm praying hard!
Until my dying day.
And when it comes to my last cast,
I then most humbly pray:
When in the Lord's great landing net
And peacefully asleep
That in His mercy I be judged
Big enough to keep.

Like Dalton said, a ton of pintails, good number of mallards, weigons, gadwalls, ringneck, teal, redheads, woodies, and canvasback. I read a DU study a few years ago that said 80% of the canvasback in north america can be found on Catahoula lake during December/January. Your limit of cans are pretty much a gimmie everyday. We've killed 8 woodies, a green-winged teal, and a goose so far this week.
