Just an introduction.
Welcome, It's good to see another fellow Gerogian. Never heard of Trion though. I cut my reservoir fishing teeth on Allatoona, not to far from you.

Introducing myself and a question!
Yea, Changing is going to put a screwball in your cast for a little while but you will get better with practice. Co-ploymer line- Technically, these are monofilament lines - but they have some characteristics that differentiate it from standard monofilament lines. Copolymer fishing lines are a mix of several materials that are turned into a single strand of line. Often times, the process of creating copolymer fishing line can reduce the negative things about monofilament lines (such as memory) while improving it's characteristics, such as adding more abrasion resistance. In comparison to standard monofilament lines, copolymer lines tend to be a bit stiffer, stronger on a diameter basis and have less stretch.

Hip, That great. Congrats. I didn't think you were old enough to have grandkids.

Introducing myself and a question!
First of all welcome to this awesome site. I know you will be able to learn and teach a lot here. My opinion is that you should take off the power-pro and fish some mono, co-poly, or floro line. Don't get me wrong Power-Pro is great. I have some on my flipping rod but it is not an all purpose fishing line. You should use braided line in only a few situations. 1. Flipping a pitching to heavy cover in a lake where there are larger than avarage bass. 2. Fishing in tough vegetation like Lili pads. 3. Bed fishing for trophy bass. The problem with fishing braided line in clear lakes is the fact that it's not clear line. If the water is very clear you might as well toss in your anchor rope because that is what it looks like to fish. Don't be afraid to go to 8 to 12 lb test line. If there is a little stain to the water you can used low-vis green line. But if it is a clear lake go with clear mono or even better a co-poly line. I personally don't like fluorocarbon but some people swear by it. Yes you will lose a few fish but keep a close eye on the first five feet of you line for damage, and retie often and you shouldn't have any problem.

How & when do I fish a fluke?
Here's one more rig to try. I know some of you already do this but it is call the Double Fluke Rig. 1. Cut two leaders one about 24-26 inches long and the other 12-13 inches long. 2. Tie a swivel onto one end of each leader. 3. Put the main line coming from your rod through the swivel of the short leader. (Do not tie to the short leader.) 4. Tie the main line to the swivel from the long leader. 5. Tie a 5/0 EWG hook onto each leader and put on your favorite Fluke. I will also put a small fluke on the short leader and a Super Fluke on the long leader to make it look like a larger fish chasing a smaller fish.

Bait size
This is true... some of the time. (I should have been in politics.) If I am fishing a lake that is known for its big bass I will throw a 12-14 inch worm all day long. See big bass are naturally lazy. They want to conserve as much energy as possible. So they don't like to spend it chasing a little baitfish if they can just roll over and grab a monster of a worm being drug past them. That's the theory anyway. I do know this. When I throw that big worm I catch few fish but the ones I do catch are 4lbs and bigger for the most part.

How & when do I fish a fluke?
Yea that's about it, but use a EWG hooks and push the hook all the way through with no problem on hooksets.

Trimming Weed Guard on Jig
Yea I know look at the time I posted it and you will understand. The easy way to figure out what I said I to watch the BPS DVD "Pitching to heavy hitters" By KVD.

How & when do I fish a fluke?
G-Loc is a Gamigatsu hook. I has a extra bend in it to help keep the lure from sliking down the hook. You can lay it flat against the back or skin it. Skinnit means slipping the point just under the surface of the back.

GOT A BOAT!!!
That's awsome. Now the fun begins. It's great fixing up an old jon boat. Good luck.

clear water
I fish several of them all the time. It's like fishing in a fishtank.

How & when do I fish a fluke?
Extra Wide Gap hooks are a must. If you can find G-locs it is even better.

Pay $$$ to fish??
Here in Georgia it is common practice to pay to park at County owned reservoirs. They spend the money to pay for the up keep on the lake, and pay the Biologist. It's usually 5 dollars for parking and 5 dollars for a trailer. Not bad because it is usually a great place to fish and worth every penny. Lake Varner in Newton County Georgia is a prime example. It is not uncommon to catch a 5-10lb bass each time you go and one over 12lbs 1 out of 30 days of fishing.

How & when do I fish a fluke?
Ok I fish a fluke all the time. There are dozens of ways to fish it and no one way is the best. The Jig Head that Spotaholic was talking about is the white version of this one. We put a pearl Superfluke Jr. on it and yo-yo it up and down creek channels and deep ditches all winter long. A weightless "The Fluke" is a great sight fishing lure. I put it on a very limber medium action spinning rod with 6 of 8 pound test. I hook it wheedles on a 2/0 G-Loc EWG. A couple of slight jerks and pauses to make it look like a dyeing bait fish is usually all it takes. I cut pieces of a coat hanger in various lengths and push them into the head, the tail or in the main body to adjust the rate of fall. I take a small bell sinker and put it on the hook before reinserting the point back into the Fluke to give it a vertical fall. This allows me to fish it deep or in fast current. Here on Clarks Hill we put a pearl Super Fluke on a Red 5/0 EWG and use it when the bass are on the Blow Troughs. You can fish it fast in a "Walk the Dog" action. You can skip it way under docks and slowly jerk and pause it all the way back in. Put it on a C-Rig with a small foam bullet float painted white pegged up on the hook. Texas Rig, Split Shot Rig, Drop-Shot, and Wacky. My favorite colors are Pearl, Baby Bass, Albino and Rainbow shad.

three rod question
Looks like we got LBH hook on Horny Toads. For me I always will have a 1/4oz Spot Remover tied onto something. Fluke of some sort. C-Rig Close at hand. Everything else is optional.
-
Bone jarring strikes?
lol. Yea. I almost donated a couple of mine to the monsters of the deep.
-
Bone jarring strikes?
Yeh like LBH said, Keep fishing. One day soon you will be bringing the bait up to the boat and with only a few feet of line left out a 4+ pound bass will statch your line and you will be left holding on with just your pinky and thumb.

Pitching/Flipping vs. Swimming/Hopping
Oh, I forgot to talk about the circumstances you asked about. This all has to do with patterning the fish. One day I was fishing a lake that was about 9 feet above full pool. There were great looking trees and stickups and even a few picnic tables to toss a jig at. I could have tossed a C-rig or a spinnerbait all day through this stuff and caught a few fish. But the best pattern for that day was short trees with green leaves in the water from main lake points no more than 150 yards back into the coves. Because the fish were holding to something specific it required a pinpoint cast. Therefore I was Pitching all day. I chose to pitch because it was clear water and I needed to back off a bit. A few month ago I was cruising along in some very clear water and looking down along a very well defined grass line in 8 ft of water while trying to find bedding fish in very shallow water. I noticed that I kept spooking fish out of this grass line. So I backed off and started throwing a C-Rig Parallel the Grass and caught 12 fish and about 25 casts. I caught fish all day long by moving back and forth along the grass in this area. The fish weren't in a specific spot they were in an area. Therefore requiring long cast and parallel retrieve.

Pitching/Flipping vs. Swimming/Hopping
The purpose of Flipping and Pitching is to eliminate as much splashdown as possible and to achieve pinpoint accuracy. The importance of a quiet entry is to keep the element of surprise. The majority of bass are caught by reaction strikes due to being surprised by a falling lure. Experts say 80 to 90% of the time. The more you can surprise them the better chance you have of catching them. If you spook them with sometimes even the slightest splash you can forget catching them. Bass relate to structure 99.9% of the time. They like the shade and will hold tight to anything that gives them a place to hide and ambush their prey. Many times their strike zone is very small. The closer you can get your lure to it's mouth the better chance you have of getting it to open. This requires pinpoint accuracy. Denny Brauer, perhaps the best flipper of all times usually looks for the muddiest water he can find on a lake. Muddy water will cause a fish to hold so tight to cover that it will be touching it. Denny then looks for things like logs, stumps and rocks and tries to hit every inch of them with a jig. Feeling for the strikes on the fall. If he doesn't get the strike on the fall, he pulls it back in and flips again, sometime dozens of time at the same stump. So the importance of Flipping and Pitching and so great you can't afford not to master it. You should get to the point that you can land your lure into a coffee cup every time with very little bounce or noise. Personally it has increased my catch rate by 60% and I am catching better quality fish.

Trimming Weed Guard on Jig
KVD trims his parallel with the straight part of the hook from the point to where the bend starts. You are just cutting an angle in the guard not making it shorter. In other words draw a line from the very end of the strand closest to the hook point to the front of the guard that is parallel with the line created by the straight part of the hook from the point to where the bed starts.

Inter-Day Bass Movements - Where do they go?
Oh yea I fogot the best thing about beating these guys was I fished out of my 14ft Jon boat w/ 8hp. I never even cranked her up. Just dropped the trolling motor and started looking.
