Inflatable boat worth buying?
I would go on Craigslist and look for a Sea Eagle inflatable boat.

replacing the wood in a transom
I have an Alumacraft boat that needs new wood. I contacted the Alumacraft co. for the specs on the wood. 1" solid oak for the inside and 1/2" marine ply for the outside is what they used on my boat. I would say that any kind of marine clear varnish or any of the above mentioned products would work. Some would just require a replacement coat more than others.

Catch and release - the proper way
"don't hold the fish out of water for longer than 30 seconds"..... There are a lot of damaged fish out there. I got into a catch and release discussion on another forum. Guy said that he routinely sees MANY floaters after bass tournaments. Once he said he counted 41 in the area where the fish were released after the weigh in. Should be a better way.

Need a small rechargable 12v to run a fish/depth finder.
How about the batteries that they sell for powered wheelchairs and scooters?

Need a small rechargable 12v to run a fish/depth finder.
I lost the info I had on some good deals on small rechargable 12V batteries. Any body have a line on any? Just need to power a little Cuda fishfinder. Don't want to have to haul my big battery. Thanks.

Made the boat dolly that I asked opinions on. Works great.
Yes. Either way will work fine. I plan to put stuff in the boat when I move it.

To oar or not to Oar
Both my aluminum boats have oarlocks on them. They will both have oars in them! I plan to do some rowing for fun and exercise. Maybe I can get me a girl with a nice little frilly umbrella to sit in front and give me some incentive!

These are 26" and they were free, so if I can find some bigger ones (free) I would try those. I can't believe how easy this thing rolls around!! For anyone wanting to make one, just take the wheels and drill out to 1/2". On the back tire you have to take a pipe wrench and remove the business that holds the chain, then drill. Warning...the wheel center is hardened for the bearings to roll against it. It takes some pressure and some lube to drill out, but I decided to do it for the size and strength of the 1/2" lag bolt. Cost of this was less than $10. I already have a tie down to lock it in place.

Wayne P. Been Posting A Long Time Online I'm wacky about wacky !!!!! Charlottesville, Virginia Gender: Re: Need a simple design for a two wheel transom mount boat dolly Reply #5 - Feb 11th, 2009, 6:40am Some of those ideas are OK, but if you use bicycle wheels, the effort to move it will be a lot less over any terrain. The one I made a few years ago just utilized a 2" X 6" board with the bicycle wheels attached to a home made axle. I used a tie down strap to hold it under the boat close to the balance point. There was no need to turn the boat upside down so I could carry my stuff in the boat as I rolled it. I went thru several versions using lawn mower wheels, heavy cart wheels, to wheel barrow wheels before getting to the bicycle wheels which made the moving effort a lot less. Wayne P. Many thanks to you for this idea. The boat rolls around in the grass, pavement, mud, whatever, so easily. You can have the boat on either side. Just a 2X6, couple of free tires from a free bike I found at a yard sale, two 1/2" lag bolts and two eye hooks for a tie down if needed. I can now roll my old row boat or my vhull Jon boat from my funky fishing trailer right down to the water and then back with no problem. Thanks again Wayne P.

Catching Blue Cats?
I think that after 20+ min of the hook wallowing around and opening up a hole it just got the right angle and popped out. I was using a 5/0 wide gap bass hook. My next rig will be a circle hook. Funny thing fighting that fish. There were times when it felt like the fish was just sort of falling through the air with no resistance at all and then the slack would pop back taught. My brother said that catfish will roll on you. I guess the line will roll around the fish and then when you pull and the fish is unrolling, that causes that sensation. I could also feel the line around his top barb. It would pop when it unhooked from the barb and tightened. This was my first big cat and I learned a lot. I have caught a 25 and a 45 pound carp. They pulled less than this big cat I had on. He was much stronger than the big carp. My new cat rig will be heavier line and the circle hook. I will need to get the fish up on the surface and closer to me a little faster. I was only using 10 pound line and fought him too long. I was going to release it anyway, but I would have liked to have seen him. Fighting a big fish in the dark I would have had to get him right up to the dock light to get a look and when I got him up close, I could not wrestle him up. It stayed down deep. I will get another chance.

Catching Blue Cats?
My brother lives on a 50+ acre lake. Years ago a pond above his lake had a dam break and all the catfish ran down a creek and into his lake. Since then catfish of 10-35lbs have been caught. I never fished for them, but the other night I caught a small bream and rigged up a 3/4oz egg sinker, bead, hook and hooked the bream through the upper tail section and cast it out as far as I could and just stuck the handle of the rod in a fixture and left it and did some casting with a smaller set up. About 20 mins later the reel handle starts turning and line starts cranking off the reel. Make a long story short I grab the rod and set the hook and fought a big cat for 20+ minutes. Did not get him, but I had a great time. The slime on my line was thick and went up about 3 1/2 feet!!! Live bream is my bait from now on!!!

Will bass eat below them?
My brother and I always look for bass busting through shad on the surface. On the lake we fish, the bass are like cowboys. 8-) They herd the shad into certain areas and keep them there and eat their fill. You can actually see them strike at the same time on the corners and in the middle of the shad. That being said, whenever we find this type of feeding, I always use a BIG Rapala deep diver and cast past the shad and bring the lure right on the bottom. I always catch the biggest bass. I have learned that the big fish don't hustle on the surface. They just lay around under the shad deep and wait for injured shad to fall to the bottom. Next time you run into bass busting through shad on the surface, try a slow deep running big plug or even a big plastic worm on the bottom, right under them. A good chance to hang a big one.

Using bluegill as bait
Tied on a gill last night and tossed it out....fought that monster cat for 26 minutes! Got him close, but no cigar...great fun. Going to start using more gills. Hope to catch some bass on them one day.

Fish Landing Technique
Net. Long handle. Amazing what you can save with one.

Stocking a pre-existing pond
As soon as you get the bass growing bigger....you won't be the only person fishing it. 8-) I don't know about stocking a small lake with shad, but if you have a decent bluegill population, you can easily set up a feeding station or two and keep it full of feed. It will automatically trigger at whatever time you set it to and the bluegill will converge on it at that time every day like pirhana!!

Ramp Rules
Regarding #4. I would ASK if the person needed help. Just heading on in and helping.....not this day and age. Better to inquire and then help, unless there is a situation happening where someone could get hurt.

Most Memorable Fights (with a fish)
I snagged a carp. Probably about 45-50 pounds. Right on the top of the tail. Took me about 1 1/2 hours to get him to the bank to get the hook out and send him on his way. I called my brother over in Alabama and we talked while I was fighting the fish. It was dark and I had no idea what it was. Funny thing happened yesterday. I was fishing on the lake behind my brothers house with 4lb test on a vintage light action Garcia rod using a Roadrunner crappie jig. I felt the jig stop dead still. Thought I was hung in a tree for a second and then I felt the same "tail wag" that I did when I snagged the big carp.......took me about 40 minutes to bring up about a 30 pound carp!!! Snagged in the exact place!! It was much easier in a boat than on the bank. I just moved the boat with the fish.

WOW!!! my day just got 11 lbs. and 10 oz. better!
Bought some fish attractant from someone I read about here. He has on his site pics of some HUGE bass caught in Texas. Ties in with the gills' that Paul uses. The lady....yes lady that caught the big bass takes a bluegill about 5-6" long and then wipes all the natural fish slime off the gill and then coats the gill in fish attractant and fishes the edges of weekbeds.

Great Drop Shotting "How to" video
Good video. Reminded me to keep the weight in contact with the bottom for max worm action. He was in 37' of water. You can drop shot in any depth.

Bed Fishing is it wrong?
No true sportsman would do it. It is just taking an unfair advantage of the fish at a time when the fish is vulnerable. You can try to substantiate it all you want to, but it is hideous to disrupt the very situation that gives us the fish we rely on for the sport.

Need a simple design for a two wheel transom mount boat dolly
Small dolly wheels won't get me through the mud/grass etc. Maybe a 6 or 8 inch inflatated tire on a dolly would.

Need a simple design for a two wheel transom mount boat dolly
I thank you guys so much for the great ideas. I have a little trailer about 50 yards from the lake so I want to be able to roll my 12 ft. aluminum row boat down to it and back. Some paved and some grass to get through. The bike tire thing sounds really interesting with the ability to leave some things in the boat.....

I need to make me a two wheel boat dolly to mount on the transom of an aluminum jon boat so I can wheel it down to the water by myself. Anybody got a simple design for this that I can make.
