Found a steep 13ft drop off. How would you fish it.
Shad are threadfin Water clarity has been affected by the rain. Never gets muddy, just a bit darker. The lake is managed by a Pond Management co. They lower a disc in the water and at 14" they measure the visability of the disc and add lime etc to maintain a good water clarity. In the winter they don't seem to need to do too much. Mostly in the summer. Man when they do come out and fertilize the lake, the fish are inactive for about 3 days. I have to check the maker they have posted at the dam area to see when they have been there.

This seems to be the the way the dam area is. All along the length of the dam and maybe a 100+ yards on the sides. One of the things that happens a lot in this area is the bass will herd the shad up into this area right above where the drop off starts. Sort of keeping them against the sloping ledge. When they do this there is deep water under them. The younger buck bass say 2-3 pounders expend all the energy doing the herding and slashing through them and the big bass lay deep under them and wait for shad to fall down. It is a heck of a sight to see them coordinate the outside edges with strikes at the same time to keep the shad in a swath. All I do is toss a big deep dive plug past the shad and pull it back under them. Caught a lot of bass doing that.

Can someone give me some info on what jigging spoons I can get at Bass Pro that are good. I have some heavy hammered looking spoons, but I think that they are too heavy to jig up and down. Wouldn't you want a thinner metal bodied jig that would actually flutter as you jig it. Thank you.

Weather will be 52 degrees, combination of sun with some clouds so basically partly cloudy. This is a 40 acre lake max depth is 20-24 feet, so this drop off is to the deepest part of the lake. I fish this lake a lot and just found this drop. The lake has some big but very snooty bass that feed all time on shad. They are hard to catch on lures and worms. I have much better luck at night in warm weather on plastics, but the night time weather temp will be in the 20s...no way I am out there!!!! Last time I was out there under just about the same conditions I had no luck as a shad kill had them stuffed. That was 2 weeks ago. I have a day to fish it coming up this Sat hopefully and wanted some advice.

Water temp will be about 50 degrees. About 10 feet from the bank the water is 6 ft deep and very quickly slopes down to 19+ feet. Would you anchor in the 6 ft water and cast out to the deeper water or cast to the 6 ft water and bring it out deep? Worms/jigs??? What would be your pick?

Monster Bass Or Numbers?
On a day when you could catch 100 bass....that means the big ones are biting too. I would immediately stop fishing for numbers and put on some big bait.

Float-n-fly
Tried it last week at my fav lake. Nothing! Not even a bite. Of course nothing else worked either! Shad kill has the fish just gorged and not biting. I will try it again in a week and see what happens. I could not find the fish dope except in a real expensive $35 F@F package deal at BP....I opted for the 99 cent chap stick at Walgreens and mixed some fish attractant on it. Also the $200 rod in the video....I would not be caught with a $200 fishing rod... The length of the rod is really determined by the length of the leader. He was fishing a 6 ft deep pond. You can use any 7 ft rod as the leader is only 3ft, Now if you are talking 12' leader, then you will need a longer rod and some room behind you to bring it all back when you cast. I think this technique was started by the crappie fishermen and they were getting bummed because the spotted bass were biting it a lot......those pesky bass....the bass fishermen were thinking otherwise.

Thanks to Brandon Ellis for free trailer part.
Forum member here gave me a boat trailer part I needed after I put a blurb on here about needing a part to get an old trailer on the air. He had saved it off a trailer from a previous boat he had and had sold. Can't beat the folks that love fishing and hang out here!! Thanks again!!!!

World Record Bass Ruling Announced, it's a....
So do you have to better the Perry fish by two oz. or the Japan fish by 2 oz. to get the record? Both are a tie for the record, but both weigh in at different weights????

Fly fishing rocks
I have several of the old Wonderods. I buy them at yard sales and Ebay cheap. I love those things. Snobby flyfishermen probably hate them, but they are the bomb to me. 8wt line. I could cast that thing all day long! That video was so inspiring!!

Patching holes in an aluminum boat?
Find a good welding shop or someone who builds race cars. Have the places welded. Worked great for me.

If you had the chance to sit down with one professional angler 1 on 1 and honestly talk FISHING...
I would trade you a day with those "pros" for a day with someone who is skilled in fishing the bodies of water close by that I fish. That way I would have some very useful info on water that I can get to to fish.

What is your "go to" when the cold front has shut them down.
Got beat up pretty bad a few days ago. Cold front moved in...I tried everything I had...nothing worked. What do you guys do in that situation....besides go home.

Some thoughts on hook removal
On a deep gullet hooked fish I find it easier and faster to just go in through the gills, grab the hook with the needle nose pliers, spin the hook until the barb exits the flesh, grab the barb end of the hook and pull it on though the opening and cut the line rather than trying to pull the barb back through the flesh. Retie the hook and your back in business and the fish is back in the water pretty quick. I have had good luck doing this.

the big one that got away
Yes. Fly rod and small bream bug. Fish just kept moving and straightened the hook right out. That was 40 years ago. I can still see the strike and the line moving to the left of the boat and the rod tip going into the water. I was just a kid and did not know what to do. It was a thrill and a half.

What method do you use when you want to quickly cover deeper water.
What is the bite like when you do this??? Pulling the heavy weight on the C rig will cause a lot of stops and grabs and such dragging on the bottom. Do you pause the rig or do you keep it moving quickly?

What method do you use when you want to quickly cover deeper water.
Not shore bound, but tend to beat the banks endlessly.

What method do you use when you want to quickly cover deeper water.
I am more of a bank beater, and know that I need to learn how to test deeper water say in the 10-20' range, especially in the Winter. When you want to canvas an area quickly at these depths, what tactics are used....lures, lure speed, casting techniques, lake positions etc. Will a Carolina rig work? What do you guys do when your looking for a bite in deeper water.
