  1. Try it at night. Large plastics. Drift or anchor on a good spot you have caught the 4-6 pounders, be very quiet, fish slow. Dark colors at night.
  2. I was looking for a one man boat that I could use when I go out by myself. Something small, light weight, safe, AFFORDABLE. I looked at all the plastic/fiberglass things, I did the inflatable thing, checked out a lot of boats. I came to the conclusion that an old aluminum 12' vhull boat fits the bill perfectly. The vhull will get you through choppy water a bit better and the Vhull contours to a flat bottom will get you in shallow tight places easily. VERY easy to launch/retreive. My 5hp or my 9.8hp pushes it just fine with little expense. Found an old Alumacraft 12' from 1965 for $150. Good shape,no leaks, good wood on the transom. Pulls easily with my honda Element on a small lightweight trailer. I would have considered a 10', but in a Vhull they are hard to find. I might consider upgrading to a deeper, wider 12' vhull like a Lund/Sylvan/Grumman if I come across a good deal on one. What is your favorite one man set up?
  3. OK so you did not say they were mexicans......... Let's play a little game. How many illegal "Hispanics" are in America......zillions. If you see a truck load of them by a pond catching "dinner" then are the chances pretty good that they are not legally here--yes or no? If they were here illegally then they are breaking the law just as much as the homeless weirdo are they not? And yet only the homeless weirdo gets arrested. The illegals get to go home, eat the fish, and get up in the morning to go take a potential American citizens' job and send their kids to a school provided by American citizens and go crowd out emergency rooms provided by American citizens......yes or no?
  4. But hooking them is? 8-) They will recover faster from the hook than from being laid down on the ground and having either their protective slime coat destroyed in places or their eye damaged on the side they are lying on. Remember that...a fish cannot close its eye to protect it.
  5. Also remember that if you are casting from the bank then there will be a severe line angle from your rod to the weight. You need to move the hook up the line to get the worm off the bottom just a little. It will actually make contact with the bottom and then move off it when you shake the rod tip.
  6. Use a heavier weight. 1/2-1oz. You can throw it a mile.
  7. what does that have to do with ANYTHING !!!! that is a lame question ............ Because if they are not here legally then they deserve NO rights. They do not have the right to fish that pond or drive the car to the pond or put their kids in a school that an American taxpayer has paid for or to take a job from an American citizen or anything else. The fact that you think it is a lame question says a lot for what you think about your country and what has become of it. You must be from Mexifornia. Once again to the guy who first posted about all of this.. WERE THE MEXICANS LEGAL????
  8. Were the mexicans legal?? Did you make an attempt to find out?
  9. I reel in the lure and when I feel pressure or a tap I give a quick sweep and hold the rod tip up in the air and wait for the pull of the fish on the line to make sure that I am not hung up. When I see the rod tip move I always give a quick short jolt just to make sure the hooks are embeded and then I losen up the drag and start the fish toward the boat.
  10. You call that SMALL?????? I call 3 acres small. 8-)
  11. I went Sunday over in Alabama. Cold front came through and the night time temp was 36. Fish just shut off. I kept fishing, trying new lures, line, rods, reels etc. Finally caught an 7 pounder.....well sort of....the fish slapped at a lipless crank bait and when I set the hook, the lure snagged it in the side. I got the fish in the net and took it back to show my brother. Let her go after that. Glad I did not quit.
  12. I have some of my best luck with plastics. What situation do you guys NOT use them.
  13. From the bank you will not be able to retrieve any hang ups, so don't use your best lures unless you want to chance losing them. I would personally stick with plastics. You can break them off and tie on a new hook and worm cheap. Drag the plastics in, under and on top of the pads. Fish them slow. Fish ahead of where you are standing and not right in front of you. Take a couple of rods with you. Set up one with a little heavier weight Texas rig that you can cast for long distance. Just let it lay there sort of dead sticking while your cast another set up. Reach down and turn the handle a couple of times every 5 mins or so. You might be surprised.
  14. Most of the tme, you won't have much luck throwing the same lure back unless the miss was very clean and the fish was not hooked. After trying another cast or two I would have switched to a plastic and cast to the same area and fished it back VERY slowly. I have found that works to throw something very slow after a miss like that. Come back to that spot in a few days. You will get another chance.
  15. Line is gone in the trash, weeks ago and so is the KVD line juice---tonight. If I had known he wanted a sample then I would have been glad to send it to him. Glad that others have had good luck with this product. I and a few others seem to be in the minority. I will not be using it anymore. That certainly is not to encourage others not to. I caught plenty of fish the last two weeks without it, so I figure I don't need it anyway.
  16. Yep. I've repeatedly stated my fluorocarbon gets worse. I hate the stuff. If I had the receipt I would send it back for my money. I HIGHLY recommend you throw it in the trash. Goes into the round file!! All I needed was one other person who had the same trouble. I use flurocarbon.
  17. Where do you store your equipment ? In the garage right next to my car when I get home. Sometimes I don't even get it out of the car. No matter...still looks and feels awful after a week or so. I am finished with this stuff. I am not going to get hooked to the point where when I put it on my line I have to keep putting it on or the line goes to crap.
  18. Agreed. YoZuri....good line. Still looks awful after using this stuff.
  19. I found that after you finish fishing and store the rod/reel till the next fishing trip---say a week or two- the line is in awful shape. All kinked up and hard. Anyone else?
  20. 93 model....and you took it to a mechanic that did not look at the rubber lines in it to see what kind of condition they were in....he is not a good mechanic. That is a given to inspect things like that if you are a good tech....
  21. I fished last night till about 2:30 AM. Caught a nice batch. I am starting to enjoy night fishing more than daytime fishing. I just drifted along with the wind being very quite and staying off the bank just far enough for a very modest cast with a plastic worm, 5/0 hook. Just cast toward the bank and lift the rod tip to move the worm and wait for the tug or the "tap, tap"..drop the rod and make your move to either strike then or lightly hold the line and feel what the fish is doing. I was fishing a lake that I know very well so even in the dark, I know where I am. If I was fishing a lake I did not know, I would only go on a moonlight night for some visuals on where the shoreline is. I have only used worms. Might try some of the spinner bait action mentioned above.
  22. I buy a lot of rods and reels at yard/estate/moving sales. I was culling through some the other day and noticed that some of the older ones had metal ferrules.....METAL....wow, most newer rods don't even have a ferrule....you just stick the top part into the bottom blank..... I like the feel and the backbone of a metal ferrule rod. Are they really stronger???
  23. 8-) Stuff can be replaced. Glad all is well.
  24. Went back over and fished the lake Sunday night and Monday. Caught 15 or so. Kept 6 smaller ones in the 1 1/2-2lb range. Released all the larger fish. Brought them home and my wife made ME cook them as she said the men should cook fish like her Dad did! 8-) I went online and found the easiest recipe..just some olive oil in the bottom of the pan, some lemon pepper and a few pats of butter on the fish, 375degrees, cook for about 25 minutes or until flakey. My wife loved them!! Catch and release is great for big water, but for smaller lakes, it can be awful for the fish. Funny thing, this has actually made fishing even more fun to be able to bring a few home and have a meal, know I have done something good for the lake I fish in and saved some money at the grocery store, and last but not least make the "War Department" happy by cooking a meal. Maybe she will let me go fishing more!!!!!
