  1. When I bought my boat it came with a compatible transducer so I I used mine for the trolling motor. I bought the trolling motor adapter bracket which is basically a big pipe clamp with a transducer on it. You can try silicone caulking it to the trolling motor and clamp it for 24 hours to let it fully cure.
  2. You could attach some longer pvc feet on the back and shorter feet on front and be able to move it closer. So the milkcrate sits level on top of the kayak.
  3. Safety is a key if you are on a lake or a fishing boat might run you over. I believe it is worldwide that if you are out in the water (not docked) that you have to have a white 360 light source. You can get a battery powered light that has suction cups. And if I was you I would put reflective tape around the cockpit or on the kayak so a traveling boat's lights might hit it and see you better. And if you have a flash light to shine at them or around so people see where the light is coming from. I've been in my 16ft fishing boat with all lights on almost got hit by a idiot. And a kayak is so low to the water you have to make sure people see you like a biker on roads. Maybe get those flashing lights and put on the back of your seat or milkcrate.
  4. Are you paddling correctly? Their is a correct way to paddle and maybe you are in a bad habit and has caught up to you.
  5. I ended up going with the JBL Charge for long battery life and you can charge your phone from it if you. I was looking and the shadow version is slick but was more then the other three colors on sale so I got one on sale and saw the shadow went on sale one day later so I took it back and swapped. I like the bluetooth so I can keep the phone in a waterproof box and the speaker has a 3 year insurance on (paid extra but even if water gets on it I can get a new one). I dont think sound travels far in water, ever tried talking to someone underwater in a pool so I don't think the sound would mess with most fish. Maybe they might want to jam too lol.
  6. 400lbs is like two people sitting in back. Do you go out a lot and travel far? I does take off slowly so you don't put a lot of strain on the transmission and slow down slowly because even a small trailer can push a car. Trucks and suv are designed to tow so thwy have stronger braking and bigger pads. You can do it with your car but take it easier so your car doesn't get a lot of wear and tear from the towing.
  7. I'm a all around boater (fishing, hangout with family, relaxing by myself, and may try skiiing some next time). Now when I am fishing I don't have the music playing. It's all quiet and stealth mode.
  8. What device do you use when you decide to listen to music like when you are just relaxing not fishing on the water? Do you use a bluetooth speaker and play music from your cell phone, small boombox, or do you have a radio and speakers mounted in your boat? Sometimes I just go and hangout and was thinking adding a music system. I first saw the bluetooth portable speaker Jam Plus then now I like the JBL Charge better. I was curious if a bluetoith portable speaker would put out enough sound if you were in the water just floating. Or should I go bigger with a boombox type style. My fishibg boat doesn't have a lot of storage so that's why I was thinking or a bluetooth type speaker. I was curious what others are using.
  9. My guess is the two main reasons is cost and storage. Maybe they are on a strict budget or not sure where you would keep it. Just let them know how much you want it. You said you are 15, where I live Krogers hires 15 year olds to bag the groceries. Can you get a locsl job like that and make your own money to buy it?
  10. Could you get a pvc pipe that fits inside the 2 inch pipe and slide a fishing seat post into the pvc? If the pvc inside isnt wide enough you can get a big drill bit and just reme out the inside until you just a good fit. Or if the seat is going to be permanently there you could set the seat perfectly level then spray some expanding foam like Great Stuff around and in the hole. Then after it is cured you can cut any extra that's above the floor. If you do the pvc type of thing you should sand the outside and put some epoxy on it wont slide up when you pull the seat up.
  11. How deep is it to the spring?
  12. Do you have any pictures? I'm not 100% sure the setup you are working with.
  13. I agree. I had them inside but found more room putting them outside. Definitely the way to go. I attached mine by pop rivets.
  14. I got mine free through a local google groups post but you could probably find one if you post on Facebook or craigslist.
  15. Yes I agree go dark like black, dark purples, dark blues. Dark colors show a contrast better. Like if you go into a room and turn all the lights off and let yours eyes adjust. Then see what you can make out. You will notice the darker objects more then the litter ones.
  16. I have a believe 1978 115hp Johnson outboard but by the model number I think it is actually a Evinrude. I have heard Evinrude and Johnson are like Chevy and GMC, same thing just different name. I need to get a new ignition coil and just making sure I get the correct one. And I am going to get a repair manual and making sure I get the right one. I will add a picture but I got from a plat on the trim of 115899C? 1 picture is the motor cover, the second is the plate I found on the trim unit, and third is the ignition coil that I need to replace.
  17. Don't forget rod leashes just in case you flip over you don't lose all your gear. I made mine cheap with cell phone car chargers and cut the ends and hooked a eye hook on one side and a calibener on the other that clips on the handle of my spinning reels.
  18. My kayak doesn't get any water from sitting in the water. I mighr get a little water from the paddle, water coming down as you lift up to paddle with other hand and it might drip into the kayak. Or from me stepping into thw kayak from the water. If you arw worried you can get some silicone marine chaulk and put that over the screws to make sure they don't leak. You can do the leak test where you fill the inside with water and then look around the outside for leaks.
  19. I have the normal transom saver that hooks to the lower unit and back roller on trailer. You don't want the motor bouncing at all on the road. A little bounce 10,000 times will add up. Of course a fish/depth finder to know if you are to shallow. For me and piece of mind I always add a automatic float switch for the bilge when I leave it over night.
  20. I have 3 telescopible rods that I take with me. That way they stay out of my way when I'm not using them and I have 3 rod holders on my milkcrate so you might want to stick to two if you dont have a third place to put them. Try to setup a anchor trolley (about $20-$30) and I have mine going from the very front to the very back. And with rivers get a above water anchor. Its a big clamp so you can hook on to a branch or log. Only do it in calm to semi calm waters. Then you can face toward the spot you want to attack and dont have to paddle. Getting a milk crate is great at keeping gear but does make it a little more top heavy but worth it. Gear I usually have a camelback with water, hook out pilers, and just use a worm holder to keep some lures or tackle in. You dont need 50lbs of tackle but just your favorites and just enough for the day. I usually just use worms on the river.
  21. The main reasons are they sit very shallow in water and easy to walk around. No big glass windshields to walk around. The bigger engines is so you can spend more time fishing and less time cruising.
  22. I would still use carpet on them to keep them from scratching and digging into the boat as it is towed.
  23. Hobie is usually a better bost while Old Town has cheaper boats. I would pick the hobie.
  24. I have read different things about the fins you can add to your boat but I don't see them on a lot of boats. Is it better without the fin?
  25. Try to jack the wheel up and push on the top of the wheel in and pull on the bottom. See if ot wiggles, it shouldn't. If it does the bearing is going out. All spin the wheel while in the air and listen for noise, you shouldn't hear any. Very easy fix and doesn't cost a lot. You can take all the grease out and find a carter pin and bend thw carter pin straight and it will slide out of the wheel nut. Then the wheel will just spin off and you can now get to the bearings. Their is a inner and outter. The bearings slide right off. You can get new wheel bearings about $30-$60 depending on size.
