hook removal
Get a hemostat/clamp they work great. You can clamp them on to the hook and remove the hooks easily. They sell these at Dicks, Bass Pro Shops, Boaters World and even Walmart. Obviously Walmart will have the cheapest price on them. I never have problems removing any hook when I use them be it a single hook or a treble hook. http://www.scissorsales.com/hemostat.html

Big time mistake..........stupid stupid stupid
Sorry to hear about your bad luck, it happens to all of us at some point in time. So long as you learned something from the experience it was not a total loss.

confession
I am going to have withdrawals when I have to winterize mine and rely on shore fishing. I am hoping to get one more month before that time comes. I go out at least a couple of times a week so I am not looking formward to having to resort to shore fishing this winter.

Fall fishing
Nice fish Jaystraw. I also have really good luck with senkos. My PB (3.5 lb) was caught using a swim senko and the best day (10 LMB's) was also using swim senkos. I am still trying to improve on my PB and hope to land a lunker soon.

Fishing Log's and Notes
I keep a log using Microsoft Word, I list the location, date, time, tides, lure, water clarity, winds and I attach pictures of the LMBs that I caught.

Woodchopper Lure?
Has anyone tried using the (Luhr Jensen) Woodchopper lure? I just bought one at Bass Pro Shop and plan on using it this weekend. I was just wondering what the best method is for retrieving it and how well they worked. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_15572_100005003_100000000_100005000_100-5-3

Jay and I went to Mattawoman Creek today and had a good day. We launched out of Leesylvania State Park after all the tournament boats were in the water (approximately 50 boats). We got lucky and took off and got to the creek before the tournament guys. We fished grass beds and caught quite a few fish. I am sure that Jay will provide a report, but I am putting up the pictures now. This was Jason's last trip with me as a bachelor, next time he will be a married man. We has a really fun day today. This is my fist fish a 1 lb 4 ounce LMB.

Low water fishin...
Use a jig and crawfish in the grass beds. Just make sure you have so strong line 20 lb or higher to pull the jig up out of the thick cover. You will also have to get used to pulling weeds off of the jig, its a little bit more work but if you get a big LMB it will be worth the effort. Just my 2 cents.

Catch and release, being overdone??????
The true problem in Northern Virginia is that we have individuals that don't speak or read or write in English fishing. These individuals fish without a valid license and yet they feel free to take every fish they catch. These people make me extremely mad and I have begun reporting them on a case by case basis to the park autorities and the VDGIF. They fish with nets and any other means possible to catch the most fish that they can. Some of these people don't even know how to remove a hook from a fish and put them on the ground and step on them so they can rip the hook out. This is starting to have a big impact for the responsible fisherman in Northern Virginia that know and obey the rules and laws.

Thanks Andy. I am going back next weekend and I hope to pull in my personal best then. I am hoping to pull in at least a 4 lb LMB next week.

Local Pond
Nice Fish Andy, way to work that pond. I tried fishing there and I told Jay the place was not worth my time, I guess I was wrong. Once again nice job.

My boss and I went to Mattawoman Creek today for a few hours. The day started slow, no bites on anything I threw. I started with buzzbaits (Booyah) and then switched to spinners, and then again to chatterbaits. We were trolling to fast to use plastics. My boss hooked a 14 ounce LMB and an hour or so past and I figured I was going to get skunked. We finally stopped the boat and I threw my pumpkinseed senko and WAM I hooked myself a nice 2.5 lb LMB, gotta love them senkos. We left a short time later so I only got the one fish.
