  1. Its in the cove on the NW corner. You have to go into Lake Placid, east on 621, then north on Hallmark Ave. About 10 min from US 27. The cabins are old but clean and the atmosphere is very friendly and family oriented.
  2. Back to Back cold fronts and not happy at Roland's. Hendersons, Camp Mack, Grape Hammock are more our style.
  3. one more that Taylor got just before dark I took this one with my iPhone. Big difference in photo quality between mine and Nicoles
  4. Here is the mount I used. 70 mph in rough sea's is not a problem. It does not move, ever. http://www.rammount.com/CatalogResults/PartDetails/tabid/63/partid/082065077045068045049049049085045067/Default.aspx I don't have any pics but I will get some tomorrow. One mistake I made that I need to correct is I did not take the power all the way back to the battery. I had extra space in my fuse panel and tied in there. Sometimes late in the day with pumps running the unit will power down due to a low voltage reading when you start the big motor. Not a major problem, just irritating.
  5. So if you were following the Okeechobee thread you know that we bailed on Friday morning and moved up to Hendersons on Istokpoga. Here are a few pics Nicole took while playing with her Christmas present (camera) on Friday afternoon. Mixed light showers and heavy overcast. I found a few that were shallow, looks like they were getting ready to bed. Nothing big, but the toad bite was fun. Boated a total of 11 between Friday afternoon and this morning.
  6. was there yesterday and this morning. I found some chunks up shallow in the areas where the muck was scraped a decade ago. You can see the big piles of it on the shore line on the NW and NE sides of the lake. Where I found a hard bottom with a mix of maidencane, arrow heads and buggy whips, I found fish. Mostly aggressive bucks but I did catch a few 2-3 lb females. Naked swimmers and Buzzn Toads. Boated a total of 7 keepers and a handful of dinks. I just posted some pics on another thread. Look for that mix of vegetation and you will be on them for the next few months.
  7. a cheaper TM mounted depth finder is all I have on the bow. I have the hummingbird 1198 at the console on a ram mount. I waited and saved for 2 years to buy it, but it was worth the wait.
  8. ding ding ding ding ding....we have a winner. I'm rapidly approaching geezer and would love to have someone who wanted to fish all of the time and learn something. Save your money, get on your bike, ride around the local neighborhoods, find the boats that are covered in the back yards, offer to help cleanup the boat and backyard. You will never be without a boat again. And you might learn something fishing with the geezer crowd.
  9. You have had over 100 views of your question but no answers because you did not give us enough information. Tell us more about your situation. What lake are you fishing? Shore or Boat? Heavy vegetation or deep water? Stained or clear water?
  10. When in doubt, always go bigger. You can finesse a fish (if necessary) on a 7-11 flippin stick. I have the VRC 711-7 and 76-7, both great rods.
  11. Vendetta or Shock. I have both along with Veritas, Verdict, Fenwick and St Croix. They are both excellent quality, low priced, general purpose rods. I would go with a 7' MH. You can do just about everything with that.
  12. Thanks for all the help guys. I went back out this morning to where Dave lost the big one. Got to fish through once by myself and then I turned around to see about 10 shiner boats lined up behind me. Dave, that area SE of your missed one opens up for about a half mile or more. The water was a little dirty but I would check it again if I were you. That concludes my Big O trip. I had been underwhelmed with Roland's since we pulled in. I guess my expectations were to high. And with yet another front rolling in I decided that was enough. So we packed up around 10:30 and headed to Hendersons on lake Istokpoga. Taylor and I boated 7 chunks over 2 lbs in the first couple of hours.
  13. We started the day with a fresh cold front and mid 40s air temp and mid 60 water. Put in at Harney Pond. Caught up with Rob off on North shore in the topped out hydrilla. Boated a 3 pounder and watched him lose a 6 at the boat. Taylor was a Popsicle by then so we decided on lunch and headed back to clewiston. The spray boats were out between Harney canal and north shore. Met up with Dave P after lunch for a tour of the south end. Boated a few small keepers and watched Dave lose a 9 pounder in the snot. Thanks for the help guys. I learned a little about the lake and got to spend some time with my BR brothers.
  14. No big presents but Nicole and Taylor are both sitting here with me at Roland Martins Resort on the south end of Okeechobee ready to hit the water in the morning. That's pretty special to me.
  15. We made it. I managed to get a little flipping in before the storm got here. Looks like Taylor and I are going to trailer up to Harney pond in the morning and try punching some of the deeper mats. Hopefully the water temps don't drop to much overnight.
  16. As soon as we feed the animals, we are out of here. See yall on the water.
  17. I have 6 of the SX HS and love them. They are bullet proof. I don't take good care of them. Use them 200 times a year. Leave them on/in the boat. The only time they get cleaned is when it's raining. And still flawless performance.
  18. You and Britt should come down too
  19. 14 hours and counting. We are leaving around 8 in the morning. That should put me on the water by noon. The wind is forecast to blow pretty good out of the sw tomorrow. I will probably stay around Clewiston along the West wall. With the wind switching over night to the NW I will most likely hit the Harney Pond area on Thursday. warmer's (Vince) is also coming down on Thursday. If you guys are around give me a shout or look for a white F550 hauler with a TR20 X2 behind it. Triton single console, Merc 250 in red and white, with a 6' 2" ugly bald guy on the trolling motor.
  20. 126 Days, 05 Hours, 37 Minutes, 10 seconds but who's counting
  21. I have the Ruger SR9c which is a good compromise for me. Compact but still large enough to be comfortable in my hand.
  22. No worries...Everyone here is cool with being excited about fishing stuff. Your family got you some awesome stuff.
