Man made structure/cover
We did this on my friend's pond and it worked very well. We took several christmas trees and large branches and dropped them with cinder blocks in a few spots in 10 to 15 feet of water. The structure itself seems to provide a hiding spot for bluegill and other forage, which keeps the bass nearby. On the sonar I can almost always see some bass either suspended next to the trees or near the bottom next to them. We dropped marker buoys over each pile and we just leave them there. (Its on private property so there's only a few guys that fish the pond)

Two-tone plastic pouring
Hey everyone, I'm about to try my luck at pouring my own plastics and I'm just doing research at this point. I'm wondering how you make lures with multiple color layers, like the 'laminate' senkos. I'm wanting to have one color all the way down the underside of the lure and one for the top side. This is an example of what I'm talking about http://www.*.com/product.php?productid=209&cat=32&page=1 These baits are pearl on the bottom and green on top. Just wondering how to pour these? I'm looking at starting out with an aluminum mold from del-mar to get the hang of the plastic pouring- then making my own molds. Any tips or suggestions?

Flappin for Hogs

Flappin for Hogs
My buddy and I had a great morning yesterday. I caught one on a soft swimbait (bass magic) and the rest on t-rigged flappin hogs and jigs with flappin hog trailers. On the next cast after I caught this 6lber my friend caught a nice 4lber. My camera batteries died after he took two pictures of my fish. (Check it out Bobby, you can see my tube of Megastrike in the rod holder. )

Small Pond frustration in the Fall
If the shallow water 'cruisers' are just checking out your jerkbait but not hitting it, I would ignore those fish and go deeper. Slow way down and focus on jigs and soft plastics. I would try a shakey head finesse worm first, then try a carolina rig with a craw worm or a senko. By slow I mean hop your lure, then count to ten, then hop it twice, then count to 20, then hop once, count to thirty, repeat... It will test your patience, but it works. This was the single most useful tip I learned here before last winter and it really paid off. I think it was Catt's post where I got it but I'm not sure.

winter soft plastic's
Brush hogs and Flappin Hogs...black and blue/ green pumpkin In winter you've gotta go SLOW sometimes. Count to 10, 15, or even 30 between short series of hops/twiches.

Most Over Rated Lure(s)
Wow, now thats an unexpected one. The first time I tried the Fat Ika I caught a nice fish on the first cast. It has always produced for me, even when nothing else would. I can't think of a time I tried the Fat Ika and didn't get a fish. It is my 'go-to' bait in the winter especially. Although- you guys will probably think my 'zero lure' is much more strange. Some of you guys throw them ALL THE TIME, but I have NEVER caught a fish on a lipped crankbait. I finally just took them all out of my tackle box to make room for more jigs and plastics.

Your most versatile lure/technique?
If you're looking for something to cover water then I'd suggest a small soft plastic swimbait like BassMagic, The Money Minnow (yum), the Berkley hollow body swimbait, the Lake Fork Tackle Magic Shad, or Shadalicious by Strike King. They can be fished fast or slow, you can use them to find fish and then work it slow like a dying baitfish to really 'clean up' My best method has been to cast it out and let it sink to the bottom, then use my rod to lift it 3 to 5 feet off of the bottom in one fast sweep- then let it sink to the bottom again. Watch your line on the fall because thats when they pick it up.

Go-to Texas Rig Baits
GYCB Flappin hog is always #1 for me brush hogs baby brush hogs gycb creature

Gloves
I like the Renegade ProSeries Neoprene gloves. The thumb and index finger fold back and hold with velcro for knot tying or whatever. They fold back on to keep your fingers warm.

Carolina Rig
I've been doing pretty well with a c-rig lately, and I was previously more of a t-rig guy. Its great for windy conditions because you can use a nice big weight without making the bait look too bulky. It gets down quick and its great for covering a large area of deep structure to find where the fish are. My best lures on a c-rig have been the flappin hog (gycb) and the baby brush hog (zoom)

Yamamoto sale at Dick's
Thats odd that they don't do the same sale across the company. Maybe they just do them by region. That sucks RW! The one near me has 3, 4, and 5 inch senkos, the shakey head style pro-senko, double tail grubs, and they just recently started carrying flappin hogs. I wish they'd carry the fat ika and 6 inch senkos, then I'd be happy.

Yamamoto sale at Dick's
I went by my local Dick's to take advantage of the sale last night. I had to restock on Flappin Hogs and Senkos. The black w/ blue flake Flappin hog is now my #1 bait on a carolina rig. I love pitching the pumpkin seed one t-rigged around laydowns and submerged trees. I go through so many Flappin hogs 'cuz the dang things catch fish! My favorite lure by far...can't put it down.

Yamamoto sale at Dick's
Got a call from a friend of mine that works at Dick's sporting goods today. He let me know that starting tomorrow (Saturday) all Yamamoto plastics are going to be 30% off. They so rarely go on sale he had to let me know- I'm going to be getting some Flappin hogs for sure. Just thought I'd pass this along.

I am not getting all this return stuff; MILD RANT
The average consumer these days has given up all responsibility for their own actions and buying decisions. I'm a general manager for a retail store and people continuously amaze me at what they expect to be replaced. "I bought this thing I shouldn't have bought, I broke it, I don't know where I bought it and I don't have a receipt...but if you don't replace it right now for free I'm going to make a scene, ruin your day, and hurt your business in any way I can" I hear this crap a lot, and it really ticks me off. I'm with ya muddy- people need to take responsibility for their own actions.

How have you progressed this year?
This year has been my most productive so far, and I started bass fishing 15 years ago. I almost feel like I wasted the first 14 years by getting stuck in a couple of techniques and just accepting that I was going to get skunked sometimes. I've only been skunked once this year, and that was in January. We had an unusually cold snap (for Texas) and the water temp reached its all year low. I started using the shakey head this year and I got a lot better with a jig/craw combo. I learned when to put down the weightless rig and bounce a t-rig on the bottom. My most successful lure this year has been a t-rigged GYCB flappin hog. It killed 'em in the winter and it still did me good yesterday. Next I want to learn swimbaits (thanks LBH- you've got me curious) and jerkbaits. (like the pointer and such) It never ends...

What baits do you always tie on for an outing
On my spinning rod I usually have a small shakey head with a roboworm or a tiny trap. I usually bring 4 baitcasters 1. weightless setup for sinkos and ikas 2. t-rig setup for flappin hogs, kreatures, and brush hogs 3. A 'heavy cover' setup (braid) with a 3/8 jig and a flappin hog trailer 4. A Lake Fork Tackle magic shad swimbait on a chatterbait head. (not really a numbers bait, but it gets big fish) This is always what I start with, and if need be I'll change it up.

any one used a LIVE mouse for bait?
My buddy and I have been slayin 'em on baby kittens. ;D
-
what is your favorite lure?!
I know I'm beginning to sound like a broken record, but... Mine is the GYCB Flappin Hog on a T-rig. I'm beginning to think that this bait has some kind of magical power. (or maybe its just me )

What did you catch your PB on?
