Johnson Silver Minnow
I have prefered the Strike King spoons. I don't think they make them any more though. They are heavier and have a skirt. Silver spoons are good but tend to come to the surface pretty quick when retieved. I tend to reel too fast for them. In open water I like the sink and twitch method. In heavy cover slow retieve and drop method. I don't like trailers but I have used a trailer hook in open water, like points, flats and sometimes trees.

This reel looks like it'll take off by itself!

Daiwa Baitcasters
My son has had many of the Daiwa's. His favorite is the TDZ but it is no longer made. He has the Fuego, Sol and like sthe Sol better. He has the Tierra and loves it. He had an Ito but traded it away for a Steez rod. He also has the Steez and loves it but traded that away for a Japanese rod. He also has the advantage supre free and liked it better than the Zillion. New Exceler is out and on order for Christmas. Hope he likes it.

1st New Picture of Shak-E2 from MegaStrike
Can you post a video of the action? It looks like very good idea.

Was only a matter of time before the paddletail...
Don't trust BPS to have their cataloge right anyway. I have seen them have the wrong picture for the wrong color many many times.

Deps Realiser
I wonder if there can be a name infringement for those rods. There is a rod maker here in Texas that has been making rods for years with the sidewinder logo?

Daiwa steez baitcaster noise?
Why get ticked. He traided it away and got a Steez rod. The guy that got it took it to BPS and exchanged it. But I know of Shimanos, Quantums, and Daiwas that have this and other factory problems. If you don't like it just exchange it. Nothing to get ticked about.

Frog Fishing Setup
The only reason I can see that you could loose fish by using a flippin stick is because of over reacting to the bite. Frog fishing does require a bit of restraint before setting the hook. Since a flippin stick is usually H action and 7'6" you could yank the frog out of their mouths. That why specific FROG rods, though may be H or MH have a x_fast tip just so this won't happen.

Bass Pro vs. Cabelas
Consider the Rick Clunn BPS XPS. They do go on sale from time to time. This is a very good bait specific rod. From cranks, spinners, jigs and worms.

Daiwa steez baitcaster noise?
My son had two of them. The first, quiet as could be. The second, whirring sound in the gear area. He got rid of it for something else but he was told that there is nothing wrong. Some gears mesh better than others. I have known of some Steez that sometimes do not engage the spool all the time after you turn the handle.

Free Spooling
Free spooling is just that...you let the spool spin free. Once you press the thumb bar you are now in free spool. So if you have adjusted you reel correctly when you let go of the spool your lure should FREE SPOOL down. Now for your question about skipping baits. If your using a bait caster Never free spool when skipping unless you want a very ugly bird nest. With a spinning reel skipping is much easier because you don't have to thumb the spool like on a bait caster. Takes practice.

NEW Daiwa Megaforce Humming ... Help!
I have one and don't really like it, it was a gift. But there is no way that pressing on the bar pulls in 20" of line. Maybe pumping the bar moves the line faster but it does not pull in 20" of line in one press. To me the main objective of this bar is for flippin and pitchin because it engages the spool. So instead of having to change hands or even turn the reel handle if you press the bar after free spool it engages the spool.

Help me Organize my plastics!
I use H2O softsided bags. Decide what goes into what bags. The problem I found when I started to organize was I HAD WAY TOO MANY PLASTICS that I didn't use. My advice, think it through and carry what you use, store the others.

Gloves for cold weather fishing?
http://www.underarmour.com/shop/search/results/pid1006608-ColdGear-Shooting-Glove http://www.underarmour.com/shop/search/results/pid1006605-ColdGear-Armour-Stretch-Glove The shooting glove is a little bulkier but does have the advantage of an open finger when needed. I prefer the Stretch glove for fishing and using a wool glove over it when traveling from spot to spot.

Anybody used the Money Minnows yet?
I prefer the Poor Boys Silly Rabbit because it is not a tube type bait. What I have noticed is that you have to use a fairly large hook on the Basstrix because you have to penetrate both sides of the bait. The Poor boy is a solid bait with a slit so you can get away with a smaller wide gap hook and not loose any swimming action. However the Bastrix and Moneys have better colors.

grande bass
This is the new bait from Grande Bass. It has great action. The rattle snakes and Mutants are tried and true lures with a very big following here in Texas. And the Machine is coming on strong. Try any of the Grande Bass lures and you'll be hooked.
