  1. Dave-the fish weighed 9 lbs. 11 oz. LCPointerkilla-FHU is Freed-Hardeman University. We are located in Western Tennessee. We have a new bass club that was ranked 5th in the nation in collegiate fishing for a while. Avid- good caption lol.
  2. nah, its got a spot on my wall. if i ever catch another ill let it go, it was my first big one so i kept her.
  3. a couple more: she caught these all except the big un, she just wanted to hold it!
  4. the best fishin partner ever:
  5. The different color underneath the arcs has something to do with the fact that the catfish has skin which allows the sonar to send back a different signal as opposed to the bass which has a skin covered in scales. I learned this from fishing with a Lowrance Pro Staffer one day. He showed me the arcs and told me it had to do with the skin differences..so I will take his word for it, since he IS a pro.
  6. I find it funny no one has mentioned the Zoom Ol' Monster or Zoom Big Dead Ringer. Both are phenominal worms IMHO. We use them on the big G in the summer swimming them along the grass lines and fish absolutely hammer them. Just another alternative.
  7. EGO Nets makes a really nice net. I got one and I really like it. Very ergonomic. Google it, you'll get their website.
  8. Actually-the Lowrance LMS series color sonar identifies catfish from bass. Bass will be represented by a certain arc, however, catfish will be more of a half circle arch with red and yellow underneath. The bass will show no red or yellow underneath. This, I know for a fact.
  9. SM-Not really a big smallie guy. LM-Break the 10 mark. I have a 9 lb 11 oz already. 5 more ounces!
  10. Barges are just as numerous on the big G as they are on Wheeler.
  11. buzzbait should be hot at that point. dont forget your rat-l-traps and lipless cranks too. Chances are, if you find grass, you find fish. You need any advice, shoot me a PM. I know that place like the back of my hand. Where are you going to be putting in/staying?
  12. They can lock through. Im not sure what all this hype is about Ingalls. Ive been there multiple times...and its basically just a boat ramp with a parking lot? I was at the BASS Southern Open there this past fall, and i mean, it was OK, but nothing spectacular. Its definitely NOT one of the biggest marinas in the US. There are much bigger on Pickwick. Not trying to argue...just stating the facts.
  13. A) to pull a monster out, you gotta hook a monster I have a medium action rod that i use for topwater frogs and poppers over the milfoil and hydrilla all summer long, and you will be fine. I fish there once or twice a week all summer. PLUS, depending on when you decide to come, the grass doesnt even mat up until late may. IMO, the fishing is best when it is about 1 foot under the surface. Great topwater action.
  14. Interesting thread...I am a faithful user of Floroclear. I absolutely LOVE that it has no memory. I use 10# test on all of my baitcasters, for everything from texas rigging to carolina rigging to jiggin to whatever, and I have NEVER broke off a fish on it. I really love this line. I have caught many BIG bass on it and it has handled them really well. The CX and CXX I have seen has WAAY too much memory. It coils up like a slinky. I see no use in using such a line. Just my 2 cents.
  15. All I know is that there are a lot more fish like that in this lake! Guess I am a bad weight guesser. But I sure do like those fat bellies on em!
  16. How big do you guys think this lady is? One of my buddies caught her about a week before I caught my (almost) 10 lber. I'm thinkin 11 or 12? Thanks for looking!
  17. Mike is a super guy, and a good guide. He will put you on fish, and show you what bait to use. All you gotta do is show up! G-Ville is noted for its great fishing. I live about 15 minutes off the lake, and in the summer, I practically live there. Enjoy some of the best LMB fishing in the south!

Well, its a funny story how I caught her. I had heard a lot of stories of big bass being caught in this public lake about 15 miles from school, but didn't really know anything about it until one of my friends came back with a picture of one he caught. The fish looked to be 12 or 13 pounds, and I just about started drooling right there. So the whole next week after class, I would go every day to try and find another lunker like his, since he released it (he's not very into fishing). Well, after so many days of catching small ones, I decided one afternoon to hit up the bream beds on that lake with a friend of mine to see if we could catch dinner. We carried a big ole cooler and were gonna fill it up with bream. It was a little overcast...and the bream were NOT biting. I had brought all UL outfits for the bream, but had my baitcaster just in case. I texas rigged up a green pumpkin baby brush hog and casted it out over the edge of a sandbar I could see. I felt a slight bump, raised the rod tip, felt pressure, and laid into her. I knew it was a good fish when I set the hook. She immediately began stripping off my 10-lb test P-Line, and I luckily had the ole caster set to the perfect drag I suppose. I saw her come up and swirl, saw a white belly, thought it was a drum. She made a couple more runs hard, stripping out drag, and then ran straight at me. I was reeling FRANTICALLY, worried I would lose the fish just like I had seen happy so many times when fish run straight at you. She practically beached her self right in front of me, and I could hardly believe my eyes. I was like a 5 year old on Christmas morning. I hollered at my buddy to grab the cooler and COME ON. We were on a trail on the other side of the lake, and I had to run back around the entire lake carrying that lunker to get to the cooler. There were some local crappie fisherman at the dock who kindly offered to eat it for me if I didn't want it...I declined, of course, and promptly filled the cooler with water, put the bass in, put it in my car, and took off. I had to bring it back to school to weigh it, because no one had a scale, and we weighed it on the Biology departments scales. It was the best catch of my life, and I am thrilled to have such a bass on my wall! I have some more pics to post, but they are too large. Any ideas?

I have a picture of the mount, which I will post later. It looks pretty sweet (and huge) on the wall!

Thanks guys. Thats out in front of Benson dorm, Hawg Caller. I had to bring her back to the science center at school to get her weighed. I caught it at a state park lake, and the ranger station didn't have a scale. What a buncha dummies! Anyway, she now hangs on the wall. I turned loose many 7 lbers stating that if I ever caught a larger one, I would mount it. So I guess that's my justification. If I ever catch a bigger one, Ill definitely pic and release!

Since everyone is postin pictures around here, I thought I would post a pic of my personal best. Caught in April, 2007 in a public lake on a texas rigged baby brush hog. She was 9 lbs. 11 oz.
  22. Hey guys- Im new to the forums but have been lookin around on here a couple of days. Im part of a Collegiate Fishing Team and currently fish competitively for them around the country. I am looking for some new rods and reels to purchase. I have 3 that I like to use right now pretty regularly, but right now I am specifically looking for a carolina riggin set up. I have 110 dollars in bass pro gift cards from Christmas, and about 250 all together to spend. I currently have: Browning Citori Combo, a Shimano Compre/Abu Garcia Revo, and a Pflueger President Spinning reel on a BPS 7' MH Rod. Both the baitcasting rods are M action. If you have any suggestions, let me know. I would like to get 2 more baitcasters. Also-I have been looking at the Quantum Energy PT's. Do any of you like them, and if so, have you had any problems with them at all? Also, are there any good sales going on online that you know of where I can get good stuff? Thanks- Tyler
  23. it may be rumored that LMB do not like fast moving water, but i have seen MANY 4 and 5 lb largemouths caught on live bait in the tailraces at the dam. And this is FAST moving water. These people were fishin for stripe and drum, and pulling out lunker largemouths. So I know that at least SOME of them like fast water.
  24. Thanks man. Im lookin forward to gettin to know yall in the Southeastern Circuit we are doin this year! I visit here alot, just pickin up tidbits of stuff. Anyway- ill let you know on the tournaments.
