  2. After reading all of the great comments on here regarding Paca Craws I had to have some! ;D I went out last night and bought 3 packs of Paca Craws (Alabama Craw, Green Pumpkin, Summer Craw) and one pack of Paca Chunks (Alabama Craw). These baits definately look like producers. I can't wait until ice out.
  3. Ummmmm........... Ice fishing Hunting Hockey Buy (lots of) fishing stuff for the upcoming season Maintain my equipment Read, read, read about bass Practice casting in the back yard Organize my tackle box a few dozen times ;D Oooooooooh I can't wait for ice out .
  4. Yep, the lady and I have been together for 4 years now and I approached the situation the same way buddy. Works like a charm. I will admit, the odd time she might make a comment about how much I fish (+ hunt + hockey ;D) but it doesn't go much further then that.
  5. I just picked up 3 Strike King Premier Plus Spinnerbaits a few days ago at BPS. I cant wait to bust em' out this year (they are my prettiest spinnerbaits by far ) .
  6. 2008 Goal/Prediction: Beat my PB Largemouth (5.2 lbs) Beat my PB Smallmouth (4 lbs +) Lifetime Goals: LM: Double digits SM: 7 lbs or higher That's my final answer.for now ;D .
  7. Thanks guys! I appreciate it. I think this reel is going to be my flippin'/ Pithcin' reel (jigs) but could also double as my buzzbait reel .
  8. Thanks a lot guys. Redlinerobert, thanks for the warm welcome to the Daiwa clan. I have a feeling that this won't be my only Daiwa for long ;D. I'm glad that the drag thing is normal, that's definitely a relief. Sounds good to me reelmechanic. Will do! If you don't mind me asking gentlemen, what applications/techniques do you use your Zillions for? And, is there anything else I should know as a newbie Daiwa owner? Much appreciated,
  9. Hello folks, I received my first Daiwa reel in the mail today (Zillion 100 SHLA) and it's awesome! But.............. I have some questions for the Daiwa fans. It seems that if I loosen the drag right off on the Zillion the spool doesn't engage (when I turn the handle the spool doesn't spin). Is this normal? I tried this (loosening the drag right off) on my Curado 101D and my Chronarch 51 Mg and it doesn't happen :-?. Also, the manual suggests that you use the supplied "special oil" on the left and right spool shaft bearings after every outing, is this actually necessary? If so, I'm going to run out of the "special oil" real quick. Where can I buy the "special oil" or can I use a substitute (Shimano oil ;D)? Sorry if these are newbie questions but this is my first Daiwa so I want to be fully informed. Much appreciated, P.S. If there is anything else I should know as a new Daiwa owner, please feel free to let me know.
  10. Will do! I have heard that. I figured the reels toughness combined with the fast gear ratio would make it a great reel for pitchin' jigs into heavy cover with the speed to take up slack in a hurry :-/. If it doesn't work out I always have my Curado or Chronarch Mg. The Zillion is my first Daiwa (Shimano guy) so I can't wait to try er' out either way ;D.
  11. I got a new Saros 2500F (and a 6' 6'' MH/F Crucial to put it on ;D) and I couldn't be more impressed. I find it extremely smooth and it seems very durable. I haven't fished with it yet (da*n ice >), but will put it to the test this year.
  12. Happy New Year!
  13. Good question buddy! I just bought a Zillion 100SHLA that I plan on using for flippin' and pitchin'. I was considering using it for froggin' and buzzbaits too as I want to put it on a St. Croix 7' HF (Slop and Frog). I also wanted an alternative to braid.
  14. Hey Gone_Phishin, glad to hear you love your Zillion 100SHLA! I can't wait to use mine this year (should be here any day now 8-)). I think it will become my flippin'/pitchin' reel.
  15. I'm with ya there fishingdude! I'm going to have to wait until they come out with a lefty first :'(. I wouldn't mind trying a Steez (reel) either. Either way, I'm certain I'll be impressed . I also wouldn't mind trying out (on the water) my new Chronarch 51 Mg or my new Zillion 100SHLA...........da*n ice ;D. Hooked_On_Bass
  16. Ummmmmmm that may not be a good idea. I just know I'll loose something or screw something up :-[ ;D. I got the Curado last spring, so maybe I'll send it in for service at the end of the 2008 season :-/. Good idea. I have never taken it down any further than removing the spool ;D. How frequent should I send my reels in for service? Once a year? Thanks reelmechanic! (I wont bug you anymore.................for now ;D)
  17. reelmechanic So no periodic oiling? :-? ;D Will do (unless I get caught in a massive rain storm ;D ). P.S. Sorry for all the questions. I'm just extremely picky about protecting/maintaining my investments.
  18. Good Morning, Thanks a lot gentleman. I had no idea . Being open like it is, wouldn't that allow lubrication to escape? I would assume that I should just use the supplied Shimano oil to lubricate the bearing? What would you suggest to use to flush the bearing out reelmechanic? Is this the only example this (exposed bearings) on the Chronarch? Much appreciated, Hooked_On_Bass
  19. Hello gentleman, I have a quick question for you. I received a new Shimano Chronarch 51 Mg for Christmas ( ) and I love it. Tonight I thought I would compare it with my Curado 101 D and I noticed something strange . The spool bearing in my Curado (the VBS side) is covered (you cannot see the ball bearings inside) but the Chronarch's bearing (same side) on the other hand is not (ball bearings are visible). I feel the bearings should be covered and think this is a mistake, what do you guys think? Thank you, Hooked_On_Bass
