  1. I love the Powerdrive v2. It has a life time warranty on the carbon shaft. Which should take the bumping of rocks and stuff better anyway. The auto-pilot function is awesome. Just set your angle and speed down the shoreline and hit the auto pilot button and fish. The T/M does the rest. I highly recommend it.
  2. Two stroke motors are like people. They are all a little different. My last Force was the same way. My 95 Johnson hits first lick. For some reason they all seem to have a different sweet spot. I've got a Stihl edger that's cold natured as hell but once warm, it will chew through anything. I wouldn't worry about it one bit. Just preset your gas for the first start and roll on.
  3. If you fish the same areas mostly then the Gps isn't really gonna help ya much. Its good for marking locations and night fishing and viewing topo maps of strange waters. I have no idea about the power draw of one of those things.
  4. You come back and see us again soon ya hear?
  5. 10 or so ought to hold just about anything. Dont skimp on the rope. Get good stuff.
  6. the yahoo groups is monitored by two reps from Humming bird. They can tell ya how to tweak it out right.
  7. take it out on the water test everything. make a list of what you find wrong. Take it to a shop and have a compression test done and have them look the engine over. If thats all good its sounds like a great deal to me. I have a 95 Javelin fish and ski, it's a great little boat.
  8. Your correct. I hadn't thought of that. My fish/ski has a 12 gallon square tank that comes out easily. I guess you could suck the water out with a hose and a small pump of some sort. Too bad they dont put a sump system in boats like they do aircraft as this is a common problem.
  9. What Tracker G said. on a half full tank, the air in the tank has moisture in it. at night, or anytime the temp drops the moisture in the air condenses into water. In the outside the tank world we call this dew. when you fill the tank again the condense water goes to the bottom of the tank and sits. Repeat this process over and over again. and you will eventually get enough water to rise to the level of the fuel pickup in the tank. Once that happens your engine gets a full dose of mostly water. Bad gas isn't your problem, physics is your problem. Always top off your tank on the way home. Take the tank out and dump out the water.
  10. Darn, Sorry I didn't see this earlier. I would have taken you up on that offer, especially seeing as Im boatless and Trolling motorless at the moment. I would love the chance to fish with you and pick your brain a bit. Next time you decide to do that, please let me know. I'll birng the rag bologna and Ritz crackers. Yummy....
  11. I just went through this two weeks ago when a stump killed my old T/M. The main difference between the Terrova and the Powerdrive V2 is the mount. The mount is much beefier on the Terrova. The T/M units are essentially the same. The foot controls are a little different, Personally I like the looks of the terrova foot control better. As I have a small 17' F/S. I went with the Powerdrive V2 and saved myself about 250.00. Your needs may differ from mine though. I will probably get the co-pilot and if that works well I may disconnect the foot control and put it in a storage compartment to save deck space. (small boat = small fishing deck) Let me know what you decide.
  12. My 798 is mounted forward of my windshield. I use the swivel mount feature to turn it forward. then I can use the Universal sonar transducer in my Trolling motor when fishing. When driving the boat I use the side scan on the rear transducer. One screen, one location, two inputs.
  13. my season is non existent right now. Got a new HB 798cSI. It didn't work correctly. took it back got a new one. The day I took the second unit out for a test fish, i took out my 15 year old TM on a stump. That was two and a half weeks ago. BPS still hasn't got my new one in yet. Last week I went to move the boat and found OIL all over my transom saver. Now the boat is in the shop for at least another week, probably going to have the whole lower end resealed. Season? What season!? > Thank god for my uncles 5 acre lake in Dyersburg. Ive got 6 lbs of crappie filets in the freezer and going back again Friday. the bass there act like they've never seen a Senko before. They are tearing them up. but I want my boat back.
  14. This is a great thread. Keep it coming guys. Ive got to write some of this stuff down.
  15. Its not the overflow plug, thats in place. This is on the very front. It may not be a hole its where the lower unit meets the case above it on the seam where those two cases com together. Oh well, took it to the shop a little bit ago. I'll find out soon I hope. they say they are two weeks backlogged. Grrrrrrrr > Oh well. back to the bank for a bit.
  16. A weep hole, (thats what we call them in the aviation biz) is a little hole in a unit that designed to let liquid vent outside to alert you that there is an internal leak of some sort that needs to be taken care of. the most common automotive one is the bottom of the water pump on your truck. when green water shows up on the drive way. you know its time for a new pump. There's a little square one one the very front top of my lower unit. Oil is coming out of it. I was wondering if that meant a whole lower unit reseal or what.
  17. hey everyone. After the new 798 didnt work, and I crushed the trolling motor, I now have oil coming form the weep hole at the top of my lower unit. > I swear I think the boat is somehow conspiring against me. Thank god my uncle has a five acre lake. Im killing the crappie while waiting on the new trolling motor to get here. any one know what this oil means? im hoping its just a gasket. Its a '95 Johnson 90hp.
  18. finger nail polish remover does great on that kinda thing. so does wd -40
  19. one would think the unit would be sealed against that sort of thing. Call HB Customer service.
  20. You are right about the side arm casting. Ive started to experiment with sidearming, as im using longer rods now and its hard to throw under over hanging branches with and overhand throw. Most all of my baits skip right now. even the plastics. But Im not hanging up on the low branches any more, Just everything else in the water.LOL
  21. I don't know about your problem but 2 of the things I bought my HB for (si and gps) don't work. They may have great customer service but I think their Quality Assurance dept has serious issues.
  22. Thanks for the info guys...Im looking forward to giving this a shot.
  23. If its the standard 83/200 Your 83 khz beam is 60 degrees. At ten feet deep that only gives you ten feet of coverage(five to each side of the transducer) Worry more about the structure than the individual fish with that coverage.
  24. Pick any major lake boat dock on Memorial day. Set up a chair an umbrella and a cooler of beer. You'll laff your head off for as long as you sit there. I guarantee it.
  25. Thanks Long Mike. due to monetary concerns and the fact that I have a small fish and ski with limited battery space Im gonna have to go with the 12v 55. I just spent a grand on a fish finder. If I hadn't wiped the old T/M out I wouldn't even be thinking of this. The wife is being amazingly cooperative thus far so Im not gonna push it. I think Im gonna go with the 12 v 55. and gonna go with the auto pilot and the universal sonar. My HB 798 will work with it. That will give me side scan on the back and dual beam on the front all on one screen that i can view from the fishing stool. It ought to be one little tricked out fish and ski when all this comes together. but 2000 in two weeks is gonna dent the budget pretty hard. And Ive still got to figure out the problem with my left side scan and my Gps on my new unit. > That's just the way my luck has run here lately. Oh well here we go.
