Action and taper are synonomous. A moderate action does not necessarily have a soft tip. It simply means more of the rod flexes, under load. Almost all heavy cover rods are like this.

Plastic Worms
Senkos aren't worms....though they do have an excellent action, if rigged a certain way. Needs to be a 5 or 6" senko, and a 1/8 oz. pegged tungsten weight, with a lighter hire hook. ZIng the bait out, with a low trajectory, and some pretty good velocity, and tell me what the bait does....it's pretty cool actually. Thanks Pete Gluzek.

Favriot Jig
Yawn..stretch...last I checked, Normark charges more for a jig made on an assembly line in some other country. Seibert and Northstar support these forums, offers a better, hand made to your spec product, not to satisfy stockholders, but because they like to share the success they've had with baits they've made. I can assure, they're not getting rich.... Did I mention, THEY COST LESS, lol. Seems like a no brainer, but you kids can go ahead and insult my opinion all you want. Sorry, if that sounds curt, but it's my best response to replies like this....

I Need Help Picking A Baitcasting Reel For $200 Or Under
Two that I own, and aren't often mentioned are the Pinnacle Primmus (a little over the $200 mark) and the Okuma Helios. These reels were eye openers for this Daiwa/Shimano snob. I'd say, operation and construction/feel wise, if you lean toward Daiwa, I'd look at the Okuma. For the Shimano fan, the Primmus is worth a look. Here's my reviews, and look for another featuring the Primmus soon: http://www.bassresource.com/fishing_lures/mat-daddy-helios-review.html http://www.bassresource.com/fishing_lures/primmus-reel-dhc-7-rod-review.html

Selective Harvest
Oh, I agree Tom. I've just seen all kinds of regs passed that are completely unrelated to "fishery management." Great Lakes trib limits on trout, lack of C&R bass fishing (still a closed season, except summer) in Region 6, closed season on Oneida Lake (recently overturned) due home owners' assoc.pressure, restriction on sales of lead tackle, 15" limit for black bass on Black Lake, there's more, and I don't want to get too political. Just to say, if it's about "fishery management," then I trust the biologists, but if ti's not supported by research, or a part of a study, then I'm against the idea - any idea that limits my ability to enjoy this hobby.

And "mod fast" doesn't refer to the tip, it refers to the overall taper of the blank. It's in reference to to how quickly the blank decreases in diameter, to use a oversimplified explanation. Tapers are actually pretty complex, but that's the gist.

Is that run to a golf course down south during the playoffs?

Megabass Destroyer Phase 3 7'11" Seven Eleven
All my heavy cover rods are moderate or mod fast. That doesn't mean "whippy" or soft tipped. It means the weight of the hookset is immediately transferred to the whole blank. The object is to sling shot the fish out of cover - lift and separate.

Uh, no. It's a flipping and pitching stick.

No, I'd rather a lighter power with a faster action for light wire, though truth be told, I wouldn't fish a light wire hook in cover that dictated a MH+ rod.

Soft Bait Design Effectiveness
Mr. Bass sees something, possibly feels something, and gulps or rejects - it's just instinct, there's no thinking like how we think. All plastics work, though all can also be rejected. That's why we carry so many.

Best Spinnerbait Line?
C21 and CX are pretty similar, though CX is a fluoro coated line, and sinks. C21 is a blend of softer nylons, and has low memory. CXX is a very tough copolymer, consequently has some memory issues, but relatively lower stretch and freakish abrasion resistence when compared to the other two. It also floats and knots hold best with this line. I can't remember if C21 floats or not. C21 is supposed to slot in between CX and CXX. I didn't really find any use for C21 or CX in my fishing. Any handling issues with it are resolved with KVD L&L. I don't use it on spinning, nor go below 10# size.

They have a major road block in winning an SB: There's a Manning at the helm, lol.

Selective Harvest
I'd say there are more factors at play that the average angler, let alone a fisheries biologist, cannot make a blanket, general recommendation. I do not trust that all wildlife agencies' creel/size/slot limits and seasons are not in line with some financial or political reason, though some are based on the notion of conservation. I follow the rules when it comes to that, and release just about all bass, barring some mortal injury to the fish. I will say, that if the population is in such bad shape that harvest or release determines the overall health of the population, then you might have bigger issues with that water. Bottom line, catch and release will never hurt things, even with delayed mortality. Harvesting may help, but it may hinder as well.

Best Spinnerbait Line?
After trying many of their products, I'd strongly disagree with that statement. I use CXX or 15-20# Tatus, and 17# AbrasX for spinners.

Weeds
You don't have hydrilla in Maine, so identifying it will be pretty tough. eurasion milfoil, domestic milfoil, coontail, water willow, water chestnut, elodea, duckweed, lillies.... are a few. What's more important than actual ID of the plant, is recognizing the plants, their growth patterns, and correlate your catches to to the weeds. Sometimes, biters are in pockets of this species, sometimes they are on the edge where two species intersect, sometimes it's outside edge near docks.... you get the picture?
