  1. You're probably right... Here's a cool study: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications/pwdpubs/media/mds_inland/mds-210.pdf
  2. Even that isn't reliable....the ladies visit, spawn, and leave to spawn with another, or recover. They don't guard the nest, so if you see a big one alone on a nest, it's probably a male.
  3. It's called "Everything Else." Knock yourself out, and start a food thread. We had a thread about a year ago asking for a food forum. The thread ran for a couple days. It's the only food related thread in the past three years. Apparently, no one cares about posting food on a bass fishing forum, lol.
  4. That's part of the Lake Ontario watershed, off Braddocks Bay. Fun spot to play in. https://goo.gl/maps/pt37o
  5. Bag of plastics that are working well lasts about an hour. I have hard baits that are 30+ years old.
  6. They pretty much seem like their version of the ST-36.
  7. I have a bunch in various sizes, and from there, I just eyeball it. Sometimes I change the size due to the OE hooks tangling.
  8. I once tossed a jig at my partner to try. It landed right in the lake. That's accuracy! Here's a cool pic of me pitching a jig at my buddy. It actually landed in his lap!
  9. Titanium leaders are great - last forever. It depends on the bait, but really a little bit of sink or rise doesn't seem to matter that much. The pike bite is like a light switch. Turns on and off. When you get one, usually it ignites, and there's a flurry of bites. Jaw spreaders...I don't use them. Typically, grabbing their gill plate causes them to naturally open their mouth. Long shaft, 11" pliers are more important when dealing with northerns over the 8-10 lb. class.
  10. There is another way, but you have to fillet them. You can also look at the vent, there's a difference there, but in order to do it well, you need a bunch of similarly sized fish, otherwise, even trained experts can't always tell.

Not having to do a darn thing about it is the most efficient. I had a huge rust problem. Put holes in the boxes, problem gone. And I mean disappeared. Most guys that see it think I'm crazy. "That will let water in!" they say. Uh, you put them in the water to fish. Water isn't the problem. Air flow is. That reduces condensation. As far as the dividers go, there at lease three holes, mostly more, in each compartment. Top, Bottom, and sides. This is plenty. There just needs to be enough to allow the damp air out, and not trap condensation in. The Hydroflo boxes are expensive, but the holes are more plentiful, and much, much smaller. Sometimes a hook pokes through the bigger holes on my home altered boxes. They don't on the Planos.

    Yes and sides.
  13. I don't think I've ever really set the hook. I just stop the pin, and lift the rod.
  14. The Coosa isn't a shabby lake boat. I have one. It really depends on how far you go on the lake. Lake boats aren't nearly as specific as river boats.
  15. I fish from a kayak, aluminum boat, and a 22' bass boat. They're all just tools to get you there. Once your there, bass is a bass. I will say this, and I'm gonna start doing it too - use the tag field to add "kayak" and tag the posts. I might try to see if I can add tags to existing posts too.
  16. Owner ST-36, ST-41, VMC Vanadium Inlines.
  17. It's been discussed ad nauseum, along with a new food section, one for just women, one for each type of boat, one for for fly-fishing, etc., etc. There's not enough kayak specific posts to warrant it, and I firmly believe fishing is fishing. When you have too many sub groups, information gets lost in individual silos.
  18. I don't think you can really generalize based on make. Every model has their pros and cons, and who designed it and how it behaves on the water is more important than what it was supposedly designed for.
  19. ^^^^ This guy's one of my favorites to share a boat with. We don't catch anything, but have a great time. And when you do catch something, you get to hear, "Well that's a right and proper fish!" The English have their English down better than we do, lol.
  20. I pretreat the filler spools before I even put it on the reel. As a general rule, I put it on all the reels after fishing. It works best if it dries on the line.
