  1. I wonder what their definition of "smooth" is? I haven't opened mine, other than to see how they were built, for ANY maintenance since I got them when they were first introduced. I have four Daiwa spinners, and a "wood handle" Stradic, and the CI4 are the smoothest in the bunch. I've worked on several Sustains, Stellas, Certates, and assorted JDM novelty top flight reels. One difference is that the rotor weighs a TON LESS than most reels, and doesn't take any inertia to get it started. It also doesn't spin forever for that very reason. Perhaps that is an issue to to those use to using reels that use heavy counterweights to balance the rotors.
  2. I was actually thinking, man he must know better. I let it sit, figuring you'd edit it - but after 20 mins, I couldn't contain myself.
  3. Yes, but Daniel misinterpreted that meaning to include using the phrase, "to copyright their own version of the rig" which is irrelevant to U.S. Copyright law. This is something we already agreed to in subsequent posts; not sure why your beating a dead horse so late in the game?
  4. It's all about "coverage" - both of them. Just fish the appropriate bait that covers the area, but handles the cover present.
  5. Almost everything works on spawning bass, and then sometimes nothing at all works. Trial error is the pattern.
  6. Might as well ban fishing altogether. Anyway, discussion of whether you approve or disapprove of the rig, fishing ethics, and anything else off topic can be discussed elsewhere. Let's keep this about where it IS and ISN'T legal.
  7. Perch have orange anal and ventral fins, caudal are dark.
  8. I cut the split rings off my baits, and attach a Duo Loc.
  9. Nickel seems to be the best for as well. Keeping your stuff dry is the key. Hard to do when you're camping for a three day TX, and it rains all weekend. ZeRust lasts about two seasons, then you have to replace it. You can also get the little cartridges you add to the box.
  10. FTO Speed bags for things that I use a lot. For storage, I get the tall 3700 size Plano boxes, and store the plastics in there, in their original bags.
  11. I've been squawking about this type of development for years. We have jumped from getting 90 hp out of a V-6 engine to 250+, but the gas mileage hasn't gone up. Why? How about some fuel efficiency without sacrificing power?
  12. Just two pages of contestants? C'mon sissies!
  13. Thanks for that, Jeff. I would say trim the Opening, Purpose, and Personal down to a few sentences, and keep at as one "Background" section. Rather than document your upcoming schedule, write about your past accomplishments.
  14. I try to lead them to a point where I get the upper hand. Here's a case where this smallie had leaped twice already. Those first two leaps were directly at the boat, so all I could do is take up slack. On the third leap, I had her. I turned her in mid air, and forced her head toward me on reentry, and after a few cranks and some figure-8s next to the boat, my partner had her netted. A nice 5-0 smallie.
  15. You might get away with shallow cranks or traps, but I prefer a fast rod for that. Definitely wouldn't match it up with braid in that situation, though. Definitely not for deep divers either.
  16. A few trusted angler friends of mine and myself actually snicker that this fact has earned us money in tournaments. Bad "net jobs" have been known to change the outcome as well. Probably already has, but they'll never know it! I know I've relayed to you the story about yours truly just literally locking up on a HUGE brown last year after seeing it roll. One flick of the tail, and good by 8# leader. Probably was about a 24-26 lb. brown trout. Put simply, I choked, LOL.
  17. It's mechanical? I'm just refuting that they are silent. Besides, never seen a transducer with hooks, let alone caught a fish on one, LOL.
  18. That's a great light to medium spinnerbait/buzzbait rod. Will also work for spook type topwaters and jerkbaits. You can even do light t-rigs and jigs, if you want. Crankbaits? That's about the last thing I'd use an x-fast rod for.
  19. The 8 is quite bigger. I have a pair of 7s on the way. The 7 seemed to have all the features of the bigger units, but were still reasonable.
  20. Baby largemouth bass have orange both on their belly and a thin margin around the tail fin. The ventral (bottom paired) fins are sometimes also orange.
  21. The Gen2 units are a TON faster. Plus the Structure scan overlay is pretty cool. It didn't seem like there was a price difference, though. Just that the earlier units are now discounted.
  22. Kent, it's hard to learn that there are no absolutes in fishing.
  23. I agree, and I can hear the clicking myself.
