I have only lost one rod & reel overboard. A calais DC on a St Croix legend elite rod. We tried retrieving it for over a half hour but no luck. It resides with the gators in SE Florida. Hurt like hell.

Scrounger jigs work best with a limited action bait as the bill provides the action to the bait as it wobbles. Like a fluke or straight tail rather than a bait with lots of built in action. If your in doubt try the bait & watch the action.

But you could almost classify them as saltwater fish which all fight like crazy since they do spend some time in the salt. See anadromous.

Try not letting them jump by burying the rod tip in the water. If they do jump don't give them any slack pull them back down so they can't swing their head. Also try lighter gauge wire hooks like owner ZoWire maybe up sizing one size.

As a cancer survivor I can tell you it is beatable. Just make sure your doctors have plenty of experience & a proven track record. It's not an easy fight but you will get through it. It also helps to talk with other people that have already been down the same path. Seek them out they will be glad to share. Good luck with your recovery.
