Lamiglas Certified Pro Series Questions
I've spent an hour trying to find the information, searching, reviews, etc. but didn't find what I was looking for so I decided it was easier to just post the question..... How are the Lamiglas Certified Pro Series rods? Has anyone used the XC705 (7ft, MH, fast tip) for Texas rigs & jigs? Warranty experiences? If anyone has any feedback, I would appreciate it. Eric

What are your favorite fishing pictures?
I'm a picture taker when I'm fishing. I love to be able to go back and remember with pictures. Here are a few pictures from a trip this past weekend up to the Cascade River on the north shore of MN on Superior. My Dad, brother and I were fishing the stream for Rainbows and Brookies. We also tried some dock fishing for Smallmouth but only caught Northerns.

In a slump....
After how many fish do you re-tie? or do you just examine the line and retie if it looks worn? Thinking about that, I have had a bigger problem this year with loosing fish because of a knot or line failure. I haven't developed the habit of retying often enough. In previous years I wasn't catching the quality or quantity of fish that I'm catching this year so I think that would be my single biggest improvement to my catch ratio. Eric

The "prefect" mono?
Just for information, they still do make lead-core line. It is used alot up here in trolling application for walleye, salmon, etc. Cabelas actually sells the exact line you mentioned that is colored differently every 10yards. Eric

Are these available at most Cabelas?
I think it depends on the store. In the Rogers, MN store they do have the Core on display in a glass case. I have not looked for the rods so I can't answer that part of the question. Even though I have a store near me, I normally order my stuff online and have it delivered to the store for pick-up. If you know what you want that works great, not so well if you have to touch and feel it. Eric

sensitive hands a gift or a learned thing?
I've been thinking about this question for the whole week (kinda sad I know) and I now believe that it is a learned thing. I think that we all have the sense of touch, we have to learn how increase the level of our sensitivity to touch. One example I can think of is an adult that goes blind after being able to see. The other senses will become more sensitive such as touch. I have tried to feel Braile with my fingers before and I could not feel the difference. Did the person have the gift of touch before they went blind or did they learn to use the sense more? Another question to think about, why do some people close their eyes to hear better? Or when fishing at night, because they can't see they can feel the bite better? I have also noticed that when I'm getting distracted fishing by feel, I will close my eyes and my sensitivity to touch goes up (or maybe that I can concentrate more). I believe that the real good fisherman have learned how to concentrate on the sense of touch with all of their other senses functioning fully and are not is distracted by all of the other inputs. My 2 cents, Eric

Cabelas XML on Sale at deep discounts
Just picked up my pitching and spinner bait rods that I had delivered to the local store. These will be my first split grip rods that I will try, can't wait. An interesting note, the packing job they do even for the in-store pickup is sweet. The two rods were in a 7.5 foot long 6 inch diameter tube with foam rings holding them on the inside and the rods came inside a XML labeled individual rod bag. When you buy from the store, you don't even get the bag!?!?!?!? Eric

Thanks for the heads-up! I have a couple and really like these rods. Now I will have to pick up a couple more. Eric

What are your biggest fish of the year so far?
Just this past Saturday, I caught a 5lb 15oz LMB which ends up being my best so far this year and my personal best ever. I caught it on a Booyah Boo Jig with a Cabelas Beast trailer. Up here in MN, that is big (at least in my experience in the past 5 years here)! The numbers seem to thin out after about 4lb. I had the shakes for a bit after. Eric

Line Conditioners
The link for the KVD conditioner also makes this claim. What benefits do you all notice when using it on braid . . . . easier casting, fewer backlashes, etc? I'm usually flipping and pitching heavy cover with braid so I don't know if I would notice any benefit. I had a sample bottle that I gave to my brother-in-law to try on his braid and now he is buying his own so he can add it to all of his rods. He could tell a difference on the length of cast and smoothnest of the cast. He also knows when he has to add a little bit more because his casting quaility goes down. Eric

Shimano vs Quantum
I have last year's model of the PT and the Curado and based on that I would say Curado. Notice that I said last year's, The_Natural may be true if Quantum upped their quality even though it would have to be quite a bit based on the previous difference. Eric

Bought a new symetre today
Yes, a little bigger spool, 0.2oz lighter and the drag jumps from 11.0 to 15.0lbs. I was told when I bought my 3000 at Cabelas that the 2500 sold more because of the handle difference between them (most people prefered the 2500). The 3000's handle was fine to me so that is what I went with. Eric

Where to order Yo Zuri Utra Soft
My local Gander does not carry it anymore. I stopped in to get some and was told that they had clearanced all of it out. Went to my local Cabelas and found out that they do not carry it in the store so I had to order it online and have it delivered to the store for pick-up. Eric

Solo or group fishing -- your preference
I guess I prefer a group, either my dad or brother-in-law. It gives me someone to tell true stories to and also share the experience. Of course, I don't fish tournements so I get to pick them. I would hate to fish with someone that I don't know. Eric

Are steel leaders a requirement while musky fishing?
I agree with the longer leader, especially with live bait. I have lost fish because they over-bite the leader. For spinners, cranks, etc. on reaction strikes they are not needed as much since I have caught plenty of northerns while fishing for bass. Cire

Need Advice on Waders
My recommendation is if you are going to walk streams don't get the ones with the boots built-in, get the ones with stocking feet and add your own footwear. I had to walk to far one time and the hard top edge of the built-in boot cut right into my calf, it bleed pretty good. Of course that was with neoprene and June so I wasn't wearing any pants for leg protection. Eric

Most Memorable Fights (with a fish)
I was 10 years old and the family was going to go out on a pond by our house with a rowboat. I wanted to bring my rod with an older Zebco reel. First cast at the lake and the bail button pops out of the reel and sinks to the bottom of the lake. I was casting, by reaching through the hole to release the bail, a Jitterbug towards shore when there is an explosion. I almost lost the rod when it hit and fought the thing for what seems forever, it tried to snap the light by crossing back and forth under the boat which I had to swing the rod around the bow of the boat. It was a 6lb largemouth. Still my personal best and I doubt I will forget the day. Eric

Anyone tried the Coffee Scented Tubes from Strike King.
I tried them for SM fishing some last Oct, fishing the Mississippi just below a dam in St. Cloud, MN. Minnows were ruling the day but later I was casting out into the main current and cranking it out like a swimbait and jigging it through the slack. Anyway, I ended up catching a 6lb Walleye on one just as it was coming out of the main current. That ended the day! I will be trying them again this year (for bass not walleye) to see how they produce. Eric

What did you catch your PB on?
LMB - 6lb on a Jitterbug SMB - 3lb on a Rattlin' Rapala lipless crank LMB was caught in the lower michigan and the SMB in the upper. Eric

Polarized Sun Glasses
I currently use Oakley Monster Dog Fishing Shallows and there is no comparison between them and my previous Walmart $20 pair. I can see better in the water with the Oakley's. My brother-in-law has some Smith's and last year he would always be saying, did you see that fish? I never did with the Walmart pair so I decided to upgrade and it is worth it. Of course, the Walmart ones are better then nothing but you do get what you pay for. Cire
