  1. x2 Or those stupid little yellow perch. I don't think they have any idea how small they really are. I swear they'd hit a lure the size of a grown man.
  2. I've looked at a few and really love the idea, but many (most) of the public fishing areas in the Atlanta area are too polluted to swim in.
  3. Yup. The Creme Scoundrel.
  4. Let me make sure I got this right... Two dudes (one with a gold tooth) approach a woman in a McDonalds parking lot and offer her an expensive electronic device for well below retail, the woman counters with an offer of $120 less than they were asking and they sellers accept the offer. None of this strikes this woman as being a little odd? At this point, any intelligent person is going to assume that the item in question is: A ) Stolen B ) Fake C ) An empty box The woman was an idiot.
  5. Not always the case. I've spent thousands upon thousands of dollars buying vintage motorcycle parts, and in the majority of those situation, the price wasn't anywhere near as important as winning the auction and getting that rare, discontinued, or obsolete part. In some situations, the one you're bidding on may be the only one you'll see for years, or possibly the only one left.
  6. I think you're missing my point. If you bid your absolute max using Ebay's proxy bid, you can't lose the auction unless someone bids more than your max proxy bid. It doesn't matter when they bid. http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/automatic-bidding.html
  7. Why bother with the initial lowball bid if you're just going bid your max bid later? Bids attract bidders, so the more bids are placed, the more likely it is that somebody will show up and outbid you. Yes, the sniping services work and I've been using one (a pay service) for many years now...but as I said earlier, it's not going to guarantee a win if the other guy is willing to pay more than you are. If I have a proxy bid of $100 on an item that retails for $30, it doesn't matter when you place your bid. Unless you're willing to shell out $101 for it (not likely), the item will be mine when the auction closes. It's the same way when sniping an auction. I have been known to place $100 snipes on $20 items just to be sure that I get them when the auction closes. The item goes to the bidder with the deepest pockets. You have to set a realistic spending limit for each item, and not get bent out of shape if it's worth more to someone else and they outbid you.
  8. I keep a 6'6" Triumph (MF 2 piece) and a Trion GX-7 (4730GX) in the back of my car/truck at all times along with a small box of misc. tackle. It's not flashy or high-end, but it does the job. I use 20-30# braid to minimize the possibility of break-offs due to heat damage, and it increases the sensitivity of the outfit as well. You can pick up a St Croix Triumph and a Pflueger Trion GX-7 at Dick's for right at $110. If you use one of their coupons you'll save enough to cover the cost of your line. http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4026555 http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11363956 (This is one of the smaller Trions. The 4730 and 4735 are about $10 more) 8/31 ETA: I like my "beater" Trion so much, I bought another 4730 last night for $30 at my local Walmart. Spooled it with 6# Sufix Siege and put it on my 6'9" ML Carbonlite for weightless Trick Worms, floating worms, small cranks, grubs, and bobber fishing. It boiled down to the Cardinal 102/104, Okuma Avenger 30a, or the Trion and the Trion won...again. Not only was it cheaper, it offered something that the other reels in its price range didn't - an aluminum spare spool.
  9. They've been listing the rod specs on their rods for a while now (years) so the odds of matching the one you already own is pretty slim unless you can find a used one for sale somewhere.
  10. It wouldn't matter if the hood was in the correct position, the rod would still look like a bag of ***. This pic reminds me of MiniTruckin magazine back in the mid 80's. Hideous.
  11. This ^^^ Sniping (manually or via third-party sniping service) doesn't guarantee that you'll win what you bid on. It only works against low-ballers who bid in small increments. If you enter your max proxy bid and still lose the item, someone else just wanted it more than you did...or they have deeper pockets.
  12. If I was going to chase trout with something other than a fly rod, I'd seriously consider the Fenwick Elite Tech River Runner. It's a beautiful rod and gets good reviews so far... http://www.basspro.com/Fenwick-Elite-Tech-River-Runner-Spinning-Rods/product/10210426/-1743464 Heck, I wouldn't mind owning a 7'2" L for bream, crappie, and small pond bass.
  13. Maybe Fireline Tracer Braid? http://www.tackletour.com/reviewpurefishinglinespre09.html
  14. The Supreme XT doesn't have any blue on it. It's kind of a metallic charcoal color with gold trim. The Patriarch comes in a nice shade of blue, but it's about $50 more than the XT. Regardless, the XT is a sweet reel. Very light, butter smooth, with a strong, smooth drag. The only real downside (IMO) is the stupid EVA knob. I just don't like the shape and texture of it, so mine has been relegated to a rod that sees less use than my primary spinning rig.
  15. Caught my first bass on a 3" glow in the dark Mister Twister and 1/8 oz jighead.
  16. I remember paying over $100 to have my electricity turned on 20 yrs ago, plus another hefty deposit for the water, another for the phone, etc. It's all part of the game. Just look at it as an interest-free savings account. You'll get it back some day, as long as you pay your bills on time.
  17. If you like the feel of the Mojo and Premier, the Triumph might be an option that'll save you a few bucks. It's built on the same blank as the other two, but runs about $30 cheaper. It's built in the same plant in Mexico as the Mojo and some of SC's fly rods. I have a 6'6" two-piece model that I keep in the back of the car/truck for those spur of the moment fishing trips. I have it paired with a Pflueger Trion GX-7 spooled with 30# braid, and it does the job with no complaints. Also, since I only have a total of about $110 in the outfit, I don't worry about breaking it or heat damage from sitting in a closed vehicle in the GA sun.
  18. Actually, I did pick that up. He said he's a multi-species angler but bass are his favorite. It's like this - if he's interested in using soft plastics or any other contact baits to fish for bass, there are FAR better/more sensitive options than the Lightning Rod Shock/Ugly Stick/Voltaeus. If he's going to stick to bobber fishing, live bait, or cranks then those three would probably be just fine.
  19. If you're looking to stay in the $35-$50 price range then the regular Lightning Rod wouldn't be a bad choice, but the Shock is just as whippy as the Ugly Stick. It might be fine for catfish, panfish, crankbaits, and bobber fishing, but it definitely wouldn't be on my list if I was looking for a bass rod.
  20. What are you laughing at? It works for my Mom...
  21. Just comb them into your mustache.
  22. X2 It's kinda like driving at dusk while wearing sunglasses. You can see the majority of the big stuff, but can't make out the details.
  23. It would take some pretty serious heat to deform plastics like this... And if it was heat related, I definitely wouldn't buy any rods or line from that retailer.
  24. Now you just need to dig out the Sawsall and welder... Don't forget about the matching trailer (music may not be safe for work)...
