  1. You can pretty much drop shot any plastic. Heck, I even drop shotted a piece of shrimp when I was in Mexico, lol. It was the bait of choice.
  2. Nice that it's a one piece! I know I could also put that to good use.
  3. Indeed. That's why I'm afraid to try it. My conventional gear might be turned into glorified dust collectors. With regard to the video, I can't believe someone was filming me without my permission.
  4. I find it interesting that the length of bass rods has been creeping up to salmon/steelhead lengths. Not sure which aspects might suffer from the point of diminishing returns but I do like the increased line control and casting distance attained with longer rods. One thing that might is in close quarter combat, but that would be might. It is quite easy to underhand cast, even with a rod that long. Rod looks very nice. Is it a one or two piece rod?
  5. It looks cool, and to me, somewhat reminiscent of an abu Garcia round reel. Regrettably, I know nothing about this reel.
  6. Too true, lol. With regard to weight, no fat jokes, lol. Besides, what really matters is what planet or other celestial body you're on. One way to lose weight with no effort on your part is to go to another planet whose mass is significantly less than the earth. Can't promise you'll survive, though. Weight matters, lol! The calculate the slope given two points was from real life. My youngest is learning this stuff right now. That is the only reason why it's relatively fresh in my mind. It's been well over 40 years since I've learned fractions and other elementary math, but my teachers were good and passionate and their lessons stuck. I can see a fraction and know it's decimal equivalent for the most common ones like I was still in 3rd grade. They burned those concepts into my mind, lol. Trigonometry next week. ?
  7. You’re welcome. In tomorrow’s lesson we’ll cover how to compute factorials and how to calculate the slope of a line given two points, lol.
  8. For those who immediately started to perform division...there may not be any hope left for you, lol.
  9. Indeed. Just ask Siri what 0/0 is! Anyway, for our US unit lacking, metric using brethren, I made a table showing the gram equivalents just in case we're outside of the United States, lol. U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A! lol.
  10. The answer has been given, but if you know the concept of what they did, then you will have the means to calculate this on your own in the future. Simply convert the two weights, which are usually given in the form of a fraction, into a it’s decimal equalvalent. It is not rocket science, lol. A fraction can be thought if as a division problem anyway. For example, the fraction 3/4 can also be thought as 3 divided by 4, which turns out to be 0.75. Once you convert both fractions into a decimal, the larger of the two will be the heavier lure. Voila. You’re done. Thought I’d teach you to fish as opposed to giving you fish, lol.
  11. Wow. She puts the “P” in Hawg.
  12. Awesome! I’ll be looking for to seeing the figures. Me likes math, lol. Update: I posted before seeing your next post. Thanks !
  13. Oh yeah? It’s the best $11 (with tax) I ever spent. Neener, neener, neener, lol. I have an LR casting rod that somehow rang up for $11 at my Walmart and I couldn’t turn it down. It’s my default Jig rod because it seems so beefy. Honestly, I have not put it to much use if any these past 10 years or so other than converting to a split grip for the heck of it. Also, until this season, I pretty much signed off on spinnerbaits. Thanks to this post, I’m going to give spinnerbaits a go next season. Sadly, bass fishing from the shore is pretty much over for me and I don’t feel like targeting salmon. Looking forward to seeing if I’ll also feel those spinning blades too.
  14. Gear wise, we are pretty much the same, including a UL rig. ??
  15. Sorry to hear that. I’ve done it too this season with my trout gear, but left my trout bag on the ground as I put everything else into the trunk. I even made a mental note to pick up the bag but I still forgot. Every bit of trout gear, about $125 worth of stuff gone. I was so ticked at myself. The last time I did that, my bag had an airline tag on it with my name and number. This was maybe 10 years ago. An honorable guy was kind enough to call me. I was lucky. Probably the same amount as you. I made it a point to to leave a label on my bags after that but that went to the way side. Perhaps we should all do that for our bags and boxes. I am certain a six pack as a good faith gesture would be fitting.
  16. Love this topic! One thought that comes to mind that we might overlook is that we tend to use “lighter” gear (generally) and so does this contribute to the sensation and perception of the smallie to fight “harder”? Even a 1.5 blue gill on a UL rig feels like a freight train, lol. I do not mean to diminish the smallie fight.
  17. What I find perplexing is how can these “quality” and expensive baits fail like that. I would hope these companies would be able to find an adhesive that could withstand the extreme temperature changes (I’m being sarcastic) or else put a warning and lower the prices as a result lol. Is it possible to reglue these guys?
  18. You have the ability to edit posts, even after you submit them. You might want to change it to prevent others from answering the wrong question. To your question, I use both spinning and casting for crankbaits. It primarily just depends what I happen to be using most of the time. For really light baits for which a casting rod will be difficult to use, I prefer a spinning rod. For example, I don’t have a casting rod in my arsenal that could effectively cast a size 5 floating rapala minnow so spinning for that. Outside of that, it comes down to personal preference.
  19. The ratio of x.y:1 the values of x and y make up a number that describes the number of revolutions a reel’s spool will make with one revolution of the reel’s crank (handle). That last number of one at the end you see denotes one revolution of the reel’s crank. So if reel’s gear ratio is 6.3:1, that means the spool will make 6.3 revolutions for every 1 revolution of the crank. A more revealing indicator is the actual amount of line the reel recovers as opposed to the reel’s gear ratio. The line recovery is dependent on a number of things such as the size of the spool and the amount of line on the spool. A spool that is nearly empty will not recover the same amount of line as the same spool optimally filled, yet the reel’s gear ratio did not change. I believe, although I could be wrong, that the last number is probably always going to have the value of 1.
  20. Not too long ago, In a driveway, far, far, away...
  21. Congratulations! Very inspiring. Thanks for sharing. I suddenly fell like I need to work out.
  22. Actually triplets. You forgot about his roller skating brother, lol. ?
  23. I made my post before seeing KK’s response. Good to know and thanks!
  24. As one who regularly uses two piece rods out of necessity, I can tell you without a doubt that as long as the rod is modern, say made within the past 10 years, I dare anyone to claim a substantial loss in sensitivity. Bottom line? Zero disadvantages from a sensitivity point of view. Yes, you might have to realign the guide once in a blue moon but that is a small price to pay for the convenience of portability. Maybe be in the old days, but no longer. Sadly, my one piece rods don’t see much action. Here’s the catch. You need to make sure the rod you’re going to buy is sensitive to begin with, therefore made by a reputable company. My two piece rods are: 6’6” shimano compre MH - spinning 7’ okuma celilo UL - spinning 7’ cabelas mag touch M - casting I am looking to add an MH two piece casting and the KK 2 piece casting rods are awfully compelling.
