  1. if you want to use live bait i would get a half dozen large, and i mean large minners and fish them weightless by dropping them in the bed of the bass till they hit it... if not then what BassAssassin said... Alfred
  2. i've never fished flooded waters before but i would cast as far up into the flood waters as i can and work back toward where the shoreline used to be.... i know its not much to go off but i hope it helps..... Alfred
  3. i love a slow steady retrive around weeds/wood, just about any cover.... like Alpster said...."The reaction strikes are priceless." but play around with them and i think you will find a new favorite. Alfred
  4. nb1226.....glad to hear you are coming home!!!!! the bass should be afraid, very afraid!!!! and thanks for your service. Alfred
  5. ....if you start to cast and say, "If I was a Bass I'd be sittin right...(as your lure hits the water in the spot you wanted it to)...there!" Alfred
  6. for saftey i would stick to just calling and reporting the guy. no need to get yourself hurt or killed over something like that. Alfred
  7. if the lakes you are fishing have shinners i would tie on a weightless soft jerkbait like a Super Fluke or Bass Assin, something like that, in white/pepper color(i think) and work it around the shoreline throwing it to structure that stands out from the rest of the bank.... i had great luck with that bait and also Rattle Traps and Spinnerbaits when i fished the lakes around Killeen south of you. keep at it, Alfred
  8. i was going to say get him hooked with a fishing video game but that may back fire on ya and cause him to want to play the game and not fish with you.....oh well. i would agree with senile1, start him out on panfish and work him up from there... the smaller inline spinners work well for panfish and bass, they may get him hooked. Good luck, Alfred
  9. tough love Zilla, tough love..... Good luck man, Alfred
  10. my oldest boy was 7 when he started, i tied on a "T" rigged weightless lizard, he likes lizaeds, he missed every fish that hit it but it was a learning experience for him... my youngest boy is 5 and i'll tie on a small topwater or bettle spin or small crankbait, the mini ones, and he will play around with it, not really catching anything but hes learning... the biggest thing i would suggest is tie something on that is easy to use and will allow him/her to catch something, call it bass fishing but if he/she catches a bluegil its better than nothing. casting, youngins have a hard time with casting over and over, let him/her have their own patch of the bank or boat and let them cast their hearts out... one last thing, let them learn on their own, you can help here and there but standing over their shoulder will get them and yourself frustrated and they will not want to come back with ya, i've been there and its not fun. just let them have fun.......if they have fun they will come back with you again and again.... hope this helps, Alfred
  11. Zilla, tell him to suck it up and stop crying its only a fish. the only people that i'll take a fish off the hook for is my wife, a female that doesn't fish and a child... if a man goes fishing with me and won't touch a fish he doesn't go fishing with me until he does touch the fish. wanting to fish and not touch the fish is like wanting to go swimming but not get wet.... makes no sense. just my 2 cents, Alfred
  12. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D these are great guys, and way to true, love'm all Alfred
  13. You know you bass fish when.... After a weekend of bass fishing you look at your thumb and are proud of the fact that it is scratched and cut up from lippin bass. ;D try and keep it going..............lets see how many we can come up with. maybe a t-shirt can come out of the mix. 8-) Alfred
  14. i'm not much of a crankbait guy but have seen how well they catch fish... this tread has motivated me to use them more... i'm thinking a few days of nothing but crankbaits...the bait monkey is calling. ;D thanks for the topic jfowl32590....... Tight Lines... Alfred
  15. Bullfrog... Alfred
  16. that was my bestest place to fish when i was stationed at Hood. I loved that lake. if i was fishing the grass beds i would have to start with a topwater and then move onto jerkbaits, shallow running cranks... i do miss stillhouse Alfred
  17. Loooooooks Goood!!!! Alfred
  18. sorry........i just saw that you live in MD..... ;D check with MD and see if they have anything like VA has.... i wouldn't move any fish to anmother pond or lake.... Alfred
  19. hey c17Lat i live in northern VA and get alot of info from this site.... http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/fishing/ there is a great article in there about pond management and they have started this new program called the Community Lake Improvement Program (C.L.I.P.). they may be willing to come out and work with you and the rest of your commuity in getting the ponds up to par. here's the link to the program... http://www.dgif.state.va.us/fishing/special_programs/clip.html hope this helps.... Alfred

i tend to go for numbers, but lately its been more about catching that one huge bass that you know is there. the fight of that one bass that could be your new PB out weights the number of bass you may have caught... Alfred
  21. if i go fishing with the intent on keeping what i catch i'm fishing for bluegill, they taste better and are fun to catch. i don't tend to keep bass unless i know the pond or lake i'm fishing needs to have some taken out due to over population, every pond/lake needs this to be done. if i fish with my dad, he keeps everything, then we keep bass if we catch any. keeping any species of fish, in moderation, is good for that pond or lake; but it has to been done in moderation. my 2 cents, Alfred
  22. when i lived in TX if there was a weed bed or a patch of reeds i fished them no matter what. now that i'm in nothern va i tend to look for downed trees. i've used soft plastics and crank baits in both places... i've caught more bass from weeds, reeds, and wood...i love to fish structure. Alfred
  23. sounds like a plan grove, can't wait dude. Alfred
  24. well lets see, its free and it floats...it is well worth it..... ;D not sure about PA but in VA if you aren't going to put a motor on it then you shouldn't have to get it registered, check with PA to make sure. 10' is just right for fitting in your truck and heading to that lake no one else can fish.... hope this helps, Alfred
  25. it should adhere to the glass....you may want to check with the brand you will be using to make sure. Alfred
