  1. Awesome. Congrats on a nice catch on a cold day. Happy belated birthday.
  2. Title says it all. Never done this before but have wanted to for quite some time. I told my wife that all I wanted for Christmas from my family & hers was some money so I could give this a try. Being the wonderful wife that she is she obliged and got everyone to put a little money towards my lure making endeavor. Here is my first batch. Nothing special at all but I can already tell that I'm going to have a ton of fun with this for years to come. The bottom right was the starting color but I had to change colors as I reheated due to the fact that I don't have the hang of this yet . However, I know that all colors will get bit.
  3. Awesome. I can very clearly remember catching my first 5+ bass. I know you'll remember this one for a long long time.
  4. Wow. Hadn't heard of this until now. Would be quite eerie to be fishing and find that.
  5. For sure. Anytime you get to cast a lure is a good time. I think most of us feel the same way in that even a "bad" day of fishing is better then doing just about anything else.
  6. Man, tough day. I've had my share of those days as well. But like you said in your last thread, you've had a blessed 2011 & I have no doubt that it will carry over to 2012. Go out tomorrow & stick another 7 pounder.
  7. I just got a little sick thinking about taking down Christmas decorations. Did that a few days ago, what a beating. My wife put up the decorations and I guess I didn't pay real good attention to all the stuff we had. As I was packing up box after box I just kept thinking where the heck did we get all these santas. Back to fishing though, it's a bummer that you didn't get to fish this morning though. I absolutely love fishing that front of the front nasty weather stuff. Hope you get a hog tonight as well.
  8. Awesome awesome fish there Goose. Beautiful. Like Hayden said, your on fire. I halfway expect to have you start another post with a bigger bass while I'm writing this reply. Great job & Happy New Year.
  9. Beautiful bass. Those pink lips reminds me of the topic you started about a year ago about what causes it. The one I caught a few days ago also had pink lips (at least as pink as they'll get here in Texas). Did we ever end up with an answer as to what causes it? Great catch.
  10. Went home to East Texas for Christmas & had to bring my rods. My parents live on a small private pond that's always been fun to fish. Mostly dinks with a few 3's and 4's. The largest bass that I had ever caught in this pond was a 5 pounder about 6yrs ago. That is until 2 days ago this beauty. Brought my tackle bag down to the lake with me so I happened to have my measuring tape and a cheap spring scale. 21" long, 18 1/2" around & a hair over 7lbs. Beautiful fish. Caught her on a lipless crank burning it along trying to get a reaction strike. Not only was it really fun to catch her but also made me feel good that she was so healthy in the little pond. This last summers drought really hit this pond hard. As you can see in the pics by how low the water level is. Hopefully we'll get a lot of rain in the spring.
  11. Thanks for the input guys. Much appreciated.
  12. My wife & I needed a table real bad so i've decided to try my hand at making one. Plus I think it would be cool to say that I made "this" table. I'm not a handy man at all so this is quite the undertaking for me. Especially being that I've never made anything before now. I've finished assembling the top and the sanding is almost done. Just need to do some more sanding, stain & seal. So far I'm really pleased with the results. My main question, to any woodworkers, is how do I attached the legs to the table. I want to be able to take the legs off if I need to in case we move. Is there something that I can insert into the legs that i can secure the screw to so I'm not damaging the wood anytime I'm taking off or attaching the legs. I'm also guessing that I will need to make a apron to attach the legs too. But how do I attach the apron to the table. We don't want the legs at the ends but rather closer to the center so the top has a bit of overhang to it. Hope that makes sense. I'm just stuck a little and thought that there might be someone on here who could give me some pointer or send me in the right direction. Thanks.
  13. Completely agree with you Rhino. I've been blessed to help out in both South/Central America and here in the states. Some of the biggest differences that I see between there and here is that the amount of poverty is so much greater there then it is here. Also the general level of appreciation is so much greater there as well. When in Peru & Panama the people were so very greatful for what we were doing. However here in the states the people just expected our help. Sure there were some that were truly blessed but most had the attitude of "why should I thank you, your just doing your job". As for your trip Bass_Fanatic, have fun & be safe. Let us know how it was when you get back.
  14. As a lifetime Rangers fan last night killed me....but what a game. Most exciting/stressful game I've ever seen. I'm afraid that last night was our only chance. I don't like our chances tonight at all to be honest esp. with there being a small chance that both Cruz and Napoli don't play from last nights injuries. I'm sure they will, they'll just be hurting. What a fantastic World Series. Which ever team wins clearly deserves it. Neither team will give in or give up. It really is a shame that there are so many people not watching it because it's not the Yankees, Phillies or Red Sox. Heres to one more game. Make it another classic.
  15. Awesome, job bud. That is a serious bull Elk. Great picture.
  16. HAHA. Thanks. Yeah it's a little intimidating looking down the barrel at a deer that far away without the help of a scope. I've gotten to where i'm comfortable at anything 225yrds and closer. The bullet starts to drop like crazy after that. I've got it zeroed in at 100yrds which makes it drop 6" at 200yrds and a massive 25" at 300yrds.
  17. Just got back from my first mule deer hunt. Every other year my dad goes on a mule deer hunt on a friends property up in Gillet Wy. For years he's been trying to get me up there and for whatever reason, his schedule or mine, it just hasn't worked out. Finally this year it did. It was my dad, brother-in-law, his brother, and me. The pictures will tell the story better than I could to here. These are pics when we were driving into the property. This is where our cabin was. Literally I opened the door and took this pic. Beautiful campground. On to hunting. Days 1 we split in to two groups of two. One group to hike the canyons and the other to site at the end of the canyon if anything got flushed out. These were the types of canyons my dad & I were walking. The first day we glasses 3 bucks bedded down with 2 of them being shooters but I just didn't want to shoot one on the first day knowing there where bigger bucks to be seen. Day two, when dad & I were hiking to a spot we spooked up a giant mule deer. I never got a chance to get a shot off at it. It has a funny marking on its rear that gave it away as a buck my dad has been hunting on that property for the last 3 yrs. I did shoot a pretty nice coyote though. We ended up hunting that deer for the next 2 days seeing it 2 more times just out of range. I was hunting with my late grandfathers 30-40 Krag. Last day we decided to go back to the spot were we first saw the big buck and sit and see what would pass by. When we walked over the hill my dad spoted a nice buck bedded down staring right at us. After 5min of not moving I finally got a chance to crawl 15yrds to a rock to get a shot off. It ended up being right at 170yrds away. First shot was a little low and in the gut. My fault on that one. It stood up and acted as if it was going to run away. It was facing us a little so I put the second shot in the best place I could with it facing the way it was. That shot was right on the money and dropped it. You can see where the shot entered the neck in the pic. It exited right behind the left shoulder. Not a giant but a really nice mule deer especially for my first. All of us shot our tags so it was a great trip. However the big one is still out there waiting for us the next time. Oh yeah they had a nice little pond there as well and there were bass in it. Nothing picture worthy though.
