I WOULDA WON!!!
I headed up to my honey hole in the dark on Saturday morning with my friends Joe, Hudson, and Shane. We had beaten the number 3 football team in the state the night before and were extremely tired but in a great mood ;D We got to the lake at 6 and hauled our stuff down to the dock, quickly throwing it down and beginning to fish right away. As ever, I was fishin a jig and I quickly hooked up with a nice 4+ pounder, but due to my jammed thumb, I didn't lip it properly and it got off the hook and slipped out of my hand > We fished on undiscouraged, though, and remembered that there was a tournament due to start soon on the lake. We hadn't entered because the entry fee was $300 and we couldn't afford it, but we decided we would try to show those guys a thing or two while we were out there. They slowly started pullin up and walkin out onto the dock, saying goodmorning to us as we continued to fish. By the time the lot of them had sat down in their boats, I was on my second cast with a Mattlure and got whacked! The fish thrashed in the darkness near the dock and got the attention of the guys. I lipped and weighed the 6.5 lber. and held it up for the tourney guys to admire, drawing a few oohs and ahhhs and "i wish he was in my boat" We soon picked up our gear and hopped in our jonboats as to get a spot before the tourney guys took em all. Joe and I fished a little cove with jigs and had a double hook-up with some nice bass, but unfortunately, his swam under mine and the line snapped > but I landed mine . It went 4.5. We fished the rest of the day with mostly jigs, occassionaly throwing a crank into feeding frenzies. Joe kept gettin wrapped around logs by bass after bass, apparently they didn't like him that day.... But he ended up landin some quality fish. I kept stickin nice jig fish on the shoreline goin 3 and 4 lbs. One thrashed that looked over 8 or 9... but of course that is the one I would lose :'( Hudson and Shane had some lure malfunctions and were not doin too well, but they kept at it. They caught a few small keepers on jigs and senkos. Joe and I landed some more jig and crank fish (one of Joe's was an estimated 4 oz. bluegill ) and decided to go in to the dock when the tournament guys were finishing up. The best 5 fish limit that day had been just over 21 lbs. I calculated mine from some notes I had been keeping on my weights and I went 23lbs. 12oz.!!!! Joe and I woulda won that thing!!! I'm thinkin about entering the spring tourney they have.... Anyway it was an awesome day with some bigguns on jigs and Mattlures! Pics: ;D ;D ;D

Jigs are MONEY.... 23lb. 10oz. limit!!!!
Hudson, Robert, and I headed up to our famed golf course honey hole on Labor Day in the early morning for some serious fishing. We arrived at the lake before dawn, at a little after 6 oclock. We started making casts in one of our best spots: right on the dock. We have caught some of our biggest bass just fishing from the dock before even getting in the boats. We were all using jigs (they absolutely slay at this lake) and were casting around the dock and the shore in the chilly, extremely windy, darkness of what was about to turn into an excellent Labor Day. The following action was a bit quick and my memory fails me when I try to follow the story to exact detail, so this may be a bit out of order or incorrect... but it works... Robert stuck a nice 3 off the shore a ways. We snapped a pic and got our lines back in the water. I was vertical jigging off the side of the dock and got whacked by something that bent my rod double and tested my drag. I played her in and lipped the 8 lb. 9 oz. bass that had a NICE belly and was a hawg of a fish. Snapped some more pics and turned around in time to witness Hudson land 3 nice bass on 3 consecutive casts . I landed a lil 1.5 and Rob stuck another 1 something bass. As the sun rose we got in the boats and puttered over to our favorite spots, not hitting any luck until a bit later as I moved across the lake. I stuck a nice 3-10 on the edge of a cove and then moved to another cove across the way to teach the two guys who were sitting there chunking cranks into the middle of the lake how things are done. They finally came around after I caught a 3-5 and a 5-10 in front of them, and they started following me into the cove and casting near the grasses. I called Rob and Hudson over and Rob got into my boat. We set off for the other side of the lake where I caught a 3+ and almost landed a carp on my jig while Rob tried for it with some bread ;D. We moved over to some vegetation protruding from the water and Rob almost got a nice bass while swimming a jig. I swam my jig in the same place and it got nearly inhaled by the same bass that gave me another 2+ lbs ;D My 5 fish limit for the day went 23 lbs. 10 oz.!!! It was a great day with lots of jig fish PICS:

Ever go up to a stranger's house and ask to fish their pond/lake?
I'm 16 years old and play 3 varsity sports and have a lot of homework, so I don't have the time or funds to venture out of suburbia with a boat or anything. My fishing buddies and I are restricted to fishing suburb lakes, private ponds, and the occassional golf course lake. We have to maintain connections to keep our network of lakes open to us and need to keep all parties happy all the time.... which with my friends isn't always the easiest thing to do. We will get permission from someone who lives on the lake or near it (usually someone we know personally) and will fish around the lake by walking or in any type of water craft we can obtain. Crossing through private yards is quite tricky and you have to learn who cares and who doesn't. There are even cases where certain members of a household will be encouraging or extremely nice to us while another or others of the same household with kick us off the property (one time threatening to call the police ). One instance occurred at a lake that was relatively new to us but where I had landed a 6 and a 9 on the same day not long before. My friend would sometimes get out of the canoe and fish in yards to get better casting angles and whatnot. One time he and a friend got out on a man's dock. The man came out and talked to them, not angry in the slightest, and asked them how the fishing was and seemed very interested. My friend told me of this and we went back another time and began to fish from the yard. I was a bit skeptical, so I tried to stay somewhat out of sight (I am always paranoid!!!!). We maintained a low profile until I saw a man walking towards my friend who was casting from the yard. He introduced himself and then said, "I am just curious as to what you are thinking!?" Is this not the friendly guy who asked about the fishing before? He went on to state that this was clearly private property and we had no business even being in the neighborhood. There was talk of legal reprecussions and we appologized and hastily left the yard. What a jerk! > Another instance occurred at a small honey hole of ours that only has about 4 houses on it (one of them is empty). Two of my friends got to the lake before me and were desperate to use a boat. They entered the yard of a nice woman who always asked us how many fish we had caught and wished us good luck and rang the doorbell to ask permission to use the paddleboat in the backyard. Nobody answered the door so they decided to fish for a bit in it and then ask again later. My friend DID land an 8 lber. that gave a great fight but later when they returned to the yard and man stood there rather annoyed :. He demanded to know what they were doing with his boat, where they lived, and then made them clean out the old paddleboat for him . I arrived as they were finishing up and had a good laugh when they told me what happened. a lot more stories have come from out little fishing adventures but those are the most recent and promenant in my mind. we have had many good experiences as well and have landed many trophy fish from other people's yards though ;D

2 FOR 2!!!! Another epic win for Mattlures
hey guys chill i think we all agree they are awesome and they catch fish and thats that
-
Mattlures not running right?
all sounds well to me. give the slow approach a go, you can reel that thing REALLY slowly and it will still run at mid-depth
-
Mattlures not running right?
yes i work it really SLOWLY. I also let it fall sometimes and jerk it a little bit. What kind of knot are you using and have you checked the hook position? is it torn at all?
-
2 FOR 2!!!! Another epic win for Mattlures
;D Thanks Paul. That is a hefty title! Rob lands his fair share of hawgs. Hudson hooks up with a hawg on a jig at one lake and then talks about it for weeks even though he didn't catch it. Our other friend... well he's a little lacking in the lunker field and he's stuck on senkos... but he'll get there. and Hudson, stop talkin bad about swimbaits!!!
