  1. Sorry I just saw this. Yes, I live in Cane Bay. The main lake has some good sized fish in it. There’s several neighborhoods that are connected by channels and I fish those quite a bit too. If you like bank fishing, the older ponds have some huge bass in them as well. I’m also 20 minutes from Lake Moultrie and Marion, and there’s some good river fishing here too.
  2. I generally work a 1 month on, one month off. I don't receive vacation or sick pay. When I'm home the only work I have is catching up on home maintenance and projects that my wife dreams up.
  3. I lived in Lexington, SC for 7 years. I love kayak fishing the Broad River, as it has excellent Smallmouth fishing in it. Parts of the Saluda, and some of the creeks of Lake Murray will have some gators in it, but never had an issue. I fished all of the rivers in that area and only ever saw one. I live in Summerville now, and live on a 300 acre private lake community and see some every now and then, but if you give them a respectful distance they leave you alone. I've only fished Moultrie once and didn't see any. Bass gear will be fine for inshore fishing as stated above. DM me if you want to do some fishing.
  4. True South Buzzbaits
  5. The big two of course, but I also like the Fat Ika (I like to rig it backwards) and Trick Worms too.
  6. They're legit. I bought a reel from them a couple of months ago, and accidentally bought a left handed one. I realized it a few hours later, and called customer service. The reel had already shipped, but they sent the correct reel before I received the original order. Super easy to deal with.
  7. I terminate cables for offshore use quite frequently. I solder the two together, use heat shrink on each set, and then use a scotch cast kit to seal them all together snug as a bug. Adding a few feet shouldn't hurt it as long as it's the same type of cable.
  8. I use the YakAttack Trolley with an Anchor Wizard. I too used rivets and GOOP. I haven't had any issues with stretching that I know of. I use a 5lb rubber coated dumbbell that I found at WM for $3, or my homemade drag anchor for anchors.
  9. I've only used bait casting gear (ALX Zolo Dragger) for the larger flipping tubes. For the 2.5"-3" tubes I use spinning gear (ALX Soul73 & Kistler KLX 7' M) which is most of the time.
  10. I'm a Marine. I served from 1995-2007. MOS 0341. I was stationed mostly within 2nd MAR DIV. I tried to do 20, but was medically retired in 2007. Started kayak fishing in 2009 as I needed a new hobby, and haven't stopped since.
  11. I love fishing with tubes in rivers. The best is hitting the riffle and eddy’s with them and bouncing the tube off the rocks. You’re not going to do very well with them if there’s a strong current, but I catch plenty floating down river with them. Also look into putting an anchor trolley on the kayak. I have the trolley and an anchor wizard.
  12. I use a 7'3" MH Kistler Feel N Reel for both of those.
  13. Z-Man Trick Shotz in The Deal, G-Finesse Swivel Shot size 1 hook, and a 1/8-1/4 oz cylinder weight is the Bizzness for me.
  14. I use a 7' Kistler Graphite Heavy, and a 7'3" ALX Ikos Promise73 out my kayak for frogs. I'm thinking about getting a KLX 7' Heavy with the moderate tip in the near future to see if I like it more than the fast tip. I'm a weirdo and prefer longer rods in my kayak, but the length is personal preference IMO. I also stand up a lot in mine, and my seat is higher up (NuCanoe Unlimited & NuCanoe Flint) so I don't have many issues working top water lures with the longer rods.
  15. I use ned jigs when I run out of tube jigs. I like Get Bit tubes, and have dipped my own on occasion.
  16. NuCanoe, with a kayak cart would be my answer. You can put multiple types of propulsion on it as well.
  17. I like hopping tubes around rocks in the riffle and eddies. Buzzbaits are fun too, but have never used a whopper plopper.
  18. A few years ago, I was floating down a river and decided to take a leak standing up. I hit a rock, and ended up in it in 50 degree water. Now I usually will just pee in the scupper hole, and let the water rinse it out.
  19. I bought my first kayak in 2008-ish, after reading about HOW. I didn't have a chapter near me, so I bought an Old Town sit in kayak, grabbed a couple of fishing rods, and fished local reservoirs nearby. I have upgraded a few times since then, and have gone on some really fun trips in them. My youngest son has the bug now too. You can drop some serious money rigging them up if you choose to, or keep it simple. I prefer a sit on top, and have added a modestly priced graph, anchor trolley with the anchor wizard. As far as storage, I use rod holders that I can change the angle on it to avoid snagging on trees, and use a cart to transport in and out of the water.
  20. Congrats! Lake Keowee is really nice. You might see me on the lake there this summer, when I get back home from work.
  21. I lived across the street from Lake Murray for 7 years, in Lexington. It was great, but my wife really wanted to move to the Charleston area. The Columbia area is great as far as being in the middle of the state, and most of the lakes are a reasonable drive to get to. I fished the Broad river the most while there due to having some of the best smallie fishing in the south IMO. You are right, SC hammers vacation properties and rentals with taxes due to the tourism industry, and people fleeing poorly ran states. Property values are skyrocketing here in Mount Pleasant and around most of the larger cities, so if good schools aren't important I'd move to a more rural area for sure.
  22. I had a couple of Jacksons for a while, but sold them when I moved. I have a Flint, and recently ordered an Unlimited a few weeks ago too. Any way, my kid is your size and loves the Flint. I like those because you can add the pedal drive/trolling motor/outboard/ etc to it later.
  23. I recently moved to Charleston area from Columbia, and am looking for some good areas to fish as well. My son and I love kayak fishing, but haven't done any since we moved. Let me know if you find some good spots too.
  24. I like ALX rods a lot. I have 3 Zolos which run $250-ish, 2 Ikos @ $159, and am about to order a couple of the Oxims @ $199.
  25. Spinnerbait - I like War Eagle Jig with a Rage Tail Menace Tubes Swim jig with paddle tail
