  1. Me too. I have tried it with no success yet.
  2. Are these new? I have used something like this for a couple years now on Lake Michigan. They were on dodgers and flashers for quick fly changes. They do work. Never used one on a crankbait or anything.
  3. They do work good. On rivers I like buzzing the slack water and eddies. Casting to where the current and slack water meet.
  4. I have had a Mallard get tangled in 4lb test line and spooled me. A forest preserve ranger saw the duck and untangled him so the duck was fine and free of its fishing line trap. It was interesting.
  5. I am looking to get a spinning reel to match up to my new Shimano Crucial. I was thinking about getting a Daiwa Exceler. What spinning reel would you recommend to be matched up with a Shimano Crucial 7'2" M rod? Like to keep it under $100 thanks.
  6. I use the split shot rig all the time. One of the lakes I fish has alot of weeds and this technique works great there. Use the smallest split shot you can get away with. I have used ribbontail worms with this rig also and they do work but a trick worm or a finesse worm works better. I like to crawl it or hop the worm right on top of the weeds. Probably one of my favorite rigs.
  7. I have narrowed it down to 3 rods and have added a new choice.
  8. This will be a bass fishing rod.
  9. Looking to get a new spinning rod. A general purpose spinning rod. Want to keep it under the $130 mark. I am looking at: -Quantum Energy PT 7'4" Med -Shimano Compre 7'6" Med CPS76MB -Shimano Crucial 7'6" Med CRS76M -Cabelas XML 7' Med XCLS704-1A -Cabelas MagTouch Med -Fenwick HMG Med 7' Med GS70M-2 -St. Croix Premier 7' Med PS70MF or 7'6" ML PS76MLF -Carrot Stix 7'2" M CLTX721M-DSS Let me know what you guys think of these rods. Also if there are any other good rods around my price range feel free to post it. Thanks.
  10. If you want to get a Daiwa and stay in the same price range go for the Tierra. Or if you want to stick with Quantum Cabelas has a huge sale going on right now including the Quantum Tour Edition for $129. They only have right handed burner editions left. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=catfeatfish&id=0037481120573a&navCount=17&podId=0037481&parentId=cat603595&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=8IS&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat603595&hasJS=true Quantum Sale http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates//index/index-display.jsp?id=cat603595&navCount=0&cmCat=catfeatfish They also have a shimano sale too. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/index/index-display.jsp?id=cat603591&navAction=jump&cmCat=catfeatfish
  11. Another one for Illinois! Great Lake Michigan smallie!
  12. Also West Marine will have them. www.westmarine.com
  13. Nice 16-17 incher from The Chicago Suburbs Illinois. I would say between 2-3lbs. Caught him on Saturday with a small kiptail jig. Same fish
  14. Count me in for Illinois. Any other Illinois guys join in.
  15. I picked up 3 bags of worms from Gander Mtn. recently for $.99 a bag. This was a month or two ago. I have yet to give them a try and will soon. I was gonna use them for shakey head fishing.
  16. I agree with what has been said. Also if the lake has pike to be afraid to try for them. Shallow bays with lots of weeds should hold some pike right now.
  17. I use a regular backpack and can fit 4 370 boxes and plastics and other accessories in it. I agree though when fishing the shore the backback is the way to go.
  18. I fish from the shore and walk the shoreline. I like to flip baits into pockets of the junk. That has always produced for me. I keep walking and tossing my bait.
  19. Match the perch with perch colored crank baits, jerksbaits and spinnerbaits. Also swim jigs in perch would work. Match the hatch!
  20. I have used both and they are both good baits. I like the gulp minnow grubs. Both have better baits then the other.
  21. Great fish! They are just pigs. Congrats!
  22. I modify some lures. I add split rings to spoons. I also replace split rings and trebles where needed. Some dont need replacing and some do. I also trim jigs and spinnerbaits.
  23. Go with natural forage, the crawfish scent. Smallies love crawfish. Also the new shad scent should work.
