  1. I would recommend a Shimano Crucials. I own 2 and love them.
  2. I agree the best way to keep the mosquitoes at bay is to cover up. I will also put something on that covers the ears to take car of the ear buzzers.
  3. I am looking for a good crankbait rod that isnt too expensive. It will be used for cranks that run no more then 8ft deep. I was looking at a Shimano Compre CPC-C70MB. Is there anything else in the $100 range that is better then the Compre?
  4. I would get a good 6'6" or 7' MH F rod as this is the most versatile rod you can get. There are alot of good rod choices out there now in the $100 range and a good reel can be had for around $100 as well. I would also recommend going to a store to check out and handle some of the rods and reels. Rods: Shimano Compre Shimano Clarus Fenwick HMG St. Croix Premier Reels: Shimano Citica Abu Garcia Revo S Quantum Accurist PT I would also check for sales, ebay and the for sale section on this site for some good deals on equipment.
  5. The only time I use a leader with braid is if I am fishing a slow bait in really clear water. If I am using a reaction bait I find it doesnt matter.
  6. I where boots mostly when walking the shore and tennis shoes or boots when in a boat. I used to wear sandals but burned my feet really bad one day and never want to go through that again. When I do wear sandals sunscreen goes on the feet!
  7. I like Zoom Horny Toads as well. As for a hook I like to use the Zoom frog hooks or something similar. It makes it easy to rig and also it holds up better in my opinion.
  8. I had one for a few months until I broke it (my fault) last year. I ended up returning it and getting a Crucial. It was a pretty good rod I am just not a fan of split grips. I had the 7ft MH rod and found it acted more like a M rod than a MH in my opinion.
  9. Inline spinners are great to bring along with some rapalas, grubs, topwater and road runners. Try to bring stuff so you can cover the different depths. When I went last year we caught mostly pike but the smallies are there. There are lots of mosquitoes up there and I found the best way to keep the mosquitoes from getting to you is long sleeves like a light hooded sweatshirt and a hat that covers your ears. Definitely bring bug spray as it might work for you.
  10. I am in my first bass tournament on Friday in the new IHSA Bass Fishing. I am very excited and nervous at the same time. I am going to be fishing with a partner and we got locations and techniques pretty much down. But I was wondering if there was little pieces of advice that you would like to share. I will be fishing back of the boat. Any tips or advice? Thanks!
  11. I really like Daiwa spinning reels. The Exceler is hard to beat for the price. Other then that get a Tierra or an Advantage.
  12. Daiwa all the way! I dont own any of the high end Daiwas yet. But hope to soon.
  13. I will go out by myself but generally like to fish with someone else.
  14. Whenever I am fishing with someone I am always the one who sees a snake or runs into a snake. You can usually tell when I run into a snake. I will be running and jumping around screaming "Snake". I think I have Ophidiophobia. I hate the sight of them, I hate the thought of them and I hate to stumble upon one when fishing.
  15. I have had the most luck for smallies with grubs but alot of people swear by tubes and have good success with them.
  16. Has anyone used the Prodigy rods by Cabelas? They look like nice rods for the money. Anyone have any experience with them?
  17. Looking to get a Powell for T-rigs and jigs in the 1/4oz-1/2oz range. I plan on spooling it with 12lb line. What would you recommend the 703, 704, 733 or the 734?
  18. I havent used the St. Croix fly rods so I cant comment on them. I will say give Temple Fork Outfitters Rods a look. They are great rods for the money and carry a really good warranty.
  19. I have put together a list of the reels I am considering. Shimano Citica CI201E Daiwa Tierra TDTR153HL Daiwa Exceler EX100SHL Cableas Prodigy PRC201 Abu Garcia Revo S-L I know the Citica is a good reel but what about the other reels. What would you recommend besides the Citica and is there another reel I should look at? Thanks
  20. Looking to get a baitcaster for T-rigs, jigs and possibly senkos this year. I was looking to spend no more then $130. The Citica is in my price range but I am looking to see what other options there are. I would be willing to possibly spend up to $200 for a combo. Needs to be lefty. Thanks!
  21. Definitely fake because thats not a falcon or an eagle. Its an osprey.
  22. I used spinnerbaits all last year from the spring and into the fall. Caught lots of bass and the occasional northern or two. They are great baits that can be run shallow or deep. Fast or slow. I would recommend getting some. I use Strikeking spinnerbaits but Terminator and Booyah are good as well.
  23. I would also like to see Daiwa offer 7:1 in their BC reels like the Tierra and Advantage.
