The Spinnerbaits is very versatile as you can chunk & wind it, slow roll it, wake / bulge it, jig it, drag it, yo-yo it & pump it. There are many great articles here in the article section on spinnerbaits - here's one http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/spinnerbait_bass_fishing.html On top of that and to offer a couple of thoughts about spinnerbaits - 1) You've no doubt heard that spinnerbaits are a great reaction bait and they truly are. Simply put, think about presenting these baits into & around places where you think a bass might be hiding to ambush prey. Weeds, reeds, wood & even rocks all qualify but are by no means the only place to look. Accurate, quiet entry casts can help as not to spook a bass. In these type spots and the bait goes by kind of fast, the bass has only a brief time to decide whether or not to eat it. You're sort of forcing his hand - either eat or say bye-bye. Often times, they eat. If conditions allow, use a trailer hook. 2) Spinnerbaits are Great baits when there's s decent breeze, even a stiff wind can be killer. And when you can combine 1 & 2 above - you might have a heck of a day with a spinnerbait. Good Luck A-Jay

Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource~ I can't offer any opionion on the carpet vinyl delema - just yet. I'm about to change my platform as well. I'm going carpet (really my only choice) so I guess I'll find out what's what. Don't reside or fish in super hot weather so don't expect that to be a factor. Good Luck A-Jay

I have two suggestions. 1) Knowledge can really help. Start with the basics. Learn everything you can about bass. Everything; throughout all the stages of their life, learn where they live, what they eat, how each season dictates where they are and what they eat. Learn about the predominant bait in your area. There's too much to list here but the more you are willing to learn the better your chances of being better equip to fish for them successfully. I thought I had a good grasp of this information, but once I actually dove into it, I found that there is a good bit of misinformation out there that is simply regurgitated over & over. Clearly reading, retaining and being able to apply this stuff doesn't guarantee anything. But it's hard to expect success without the knowledge. Imagine jumping behind the wheel after only reading a billboard that said "drive carefully" . . . . . . . .. 2) If you want to catch something other than average fish, be certain that you're fishing in places that actually have them. Not all do. This sounds simple & might get over looked but once you take you're average skills to a place that has a bigger average fish, you may surprise yourself. Good Luck A-Jay

I have two suggestions for you: 1) In regards to the 6'6 M with 5.4:1 baitcaster with 20 lb flourcarbon for my soft plastics ~ you may find that reel a little slow for bottom contact baits. It's a good deep crankbait reels speed though. The 6.3:1 or the 7.1:1 would be better. 2) A Medium rod for soft plastics is fine in light cover but you may find a MH better if you're fishing in heavier weeds and what not. Good Luck A-Jay
