Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
That might work but there are a few things to consider legally before you do. Any fishing in MD public trout waters requires a trout stamp ~ even if you're bass fishing. Also, when bringing in a commercially purchased dead trout to use as bait, if it's under the states legal size limit, you may have a difficult time proving to a DNR official that it was not caught there. btw - for $25 a Huddleston 68 is a great mid size trout bait that catches big bass. 2016 Lund Pro V Bass
I noticed that on one of the two boats I looked at as well. The other model operated some what "smoother". Nothing a close look at, some familiarity with how the mechanism works and a little TLC won't smooth out. A-Jay

My orders is still a work in progress. Ironing out a few details. What was about the pop-up tackle storage that you didn't like ? A-Jay

braid
I use mono backing when using braid on both casting & spinning gear. I use 1/4 spool of mono then top off with the braid. Once there is a need, I end for end the braid down to the mono to use the fresh braid underneath. I do not use Mr. Martins braid for backing deal. Don't know if it works or not. Don't care. Results indicate that my casting distance is effective now so there's no need. A-Jay

I love froggin
It's all good - I'm glad you're enjoying what's available. As for the 1 pounders on the bank ~ what's the water temp ? A flood of bucks could mean that the Big Girls are right behind them. A few days from now those same casts might get your arm broke Good Luck A-Jay

Powerbait soft plastics
Regardless of age or current small - I'll say that if the baits designed shape & action remain intact - they'll produce. Besides, whatever they smell like now, adding a little Megastrike to it will make it better. (even when they're new). A-Jay

Overcomplicating things
Interesting topic slonezp ~ I too believe that with age comes experience. Being able to interpret what is experienced and than apply it effectively at a future time, date, different season & on a different body of water seems to come in pretty handy as well. Something that I believe that everyone has is "Instinct". Each angler has at least some - but certain fisherman seem to be able to "listen" to it. Catching some fish can certainly help build some confidence which in turn may help an angler trust in him/herself (instincts). Perhaps this is an example of what "That Guy" does a little better than some. "Seeing is believing" is a saying we often hear. Something that has served me well over the years is a spin off of this. (and not just for fishing) I really need to "Believe It - To See It." Having a positive picture in my minds eye of what I'm trying to accomplish and truly believing that the outcome is reasonable & attainable, keeps me focused and in the right frame of mind. Can self-doubt creep in when things don't exactly follow the plan ? Sure does, that's where self discipline comes in - only you can control your mind. So do it. There are so many, many things that happen in a day that determine whether bass are caught, especially Big Bass. Some of these happen before the day of the trip and others are so far out of our control that there is no sense even addressing them. I like to try to be Balanced. It's very hard to be very good at everything - at least for me. So instead, I try to look at the big picture. I'm willing to spend time & energy ensuring I'm able to complete each fishing trip without struggling with Anything. Consider how many evolutions there are on a standard bass fishing trip; trailering the boat, the launch & recovery, the boat handling itself, safe navigation, gear selection, ten different types of casts, casting accuracy, boat position, anchoring, hook sets, fish landing, net use, knot tying, bait rigging, don't spill the JJ's, using the electronics effectively, the list goes on. All of this could fall under the Ability category. However being super good at a few of these & not so good on others may end up being problematic. So, I like to work to be Balanced - I'm definitely not That Guy, more like A Guy. A-Jay

Hookup ratio way down with offset round bend
My first question would have to be if the EWG hooks were getting 9 out of 10 fish, why the change to round bend ? Where 100% hook ups would be nice - it's often not attainable. As Fishes in trees noted above - the gear you're fishing that trick worm on can & usually does play a role in hook setting authority. The trick worm is most often thought of as a finesse type presentation and is usually fished that way. The fact that you're getting bites indicates wherever gear you're using, the fish like it. If you're using spinning gear and nylon line (mono or fluorocarbon) switching to a light braid usually helps offer a bit more potency to you're hook sets. A-Jay

50 LB braided line-only frogs?
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ~X2~ That about covers it for my braid use as well. However some of the latest / next generation of braids to come out are showing a higher lb test size with same or smaller diameter. Both Daiwa Samurai Braided & Seaguar Smackdown Braided Line have crazy small diameter for their rated test size. May or may not be advantageous - depends on the application. A-Jay
