During the Dog Days of Summer - night ops is often a good bet. I do it quite a bit late through July and right into September in waters very similar what you've described.. Fish will often move pretty shallow on dark no moon nights. Topwater, spinnerbaits, cranks, jigs and mid-sized swimbaits all produce. If I haven't been out on the water I plan on fishing at night for a bit, some daylight scouting often helps eliminate water during the night trip. Getting there early and finding bait in an area is often key. Then returning to these spots has been good. Of course the presents of crayfish in areas where any weeds meet wood, docks or rocks which is in close proximity to the deeper areas (which where you're fishing is probably everywhere) where you think the fish may be holding (or suspending) during the day) are always a good spot to drag a jig & craw. Good Luck A-Jay

  3. The True Trophy Smallies almost all seem to come Very Early & Very Late in the Season. If you're Catching 4's, then 5's might be around. If you're catching 5's, then 6's, 7's & even Bigger may be in the area. If you're catching 2's & 3's Move. Good Luck on your Quest. A-Jay
  4. An average size bag of green bass for me is probably something near 10 lbs. Interestingly enough an average Brown bass bag run about 12 lbs An average mixed bag usually runs close to the one of those as well. btw ~ the "it depends" is routinely figured INTO "the average" and not presented separately. 7. Take it slow and you'll do fine. Sometimes it's a little challenging backing the trailer down the ramp without the boat on it. Depending on the grade of the ramp, as you initially descend, the trailer often disappears a bit from view. As you make your approach, try to make any line up adjustments before this happens when backing without the boat on the trailer. Good Luck A-Jay

  11. I find that Super long casts with large gauge wire single hook baits using mono, co-poly or fluorocarbon to be problematic. I also find fishing in & around, zebra mussels, cement piling & rocks using braid to be problematic. Repeated placing heavy stain on a spool of fluorocarbon eventually became problematic. Managing it all is part of the fun. A-Jay
