  1. finally making the trip down to okeechobee this weekend, was wondering A (and most importantly) if anyone has any recommendations on where to stay (willing and probably camping out to save money unless some other cheap options exist) B where in the world do i fish on this huge lake? Since I only have two days and its taken me months to figure out toho (still haven't at all and thats an 11 mile lake) if you could just point me in the right direction i'd appreciate so much. Thank you and God Bless.
  2. sounds pretty neat will be sure to try it out, fishindaddy was kind enough not to mention the one i lost due to "user error" never saw it but felt pretty good, then again so do most fish you never get to see...all the biggest fish i've ever hooked have got away and keep growing every time i tell the story. thanks again fishindaddy, had a great time.
  3. Anyone know of any spots in davenport or close by to put in a kayak and slay some pigs (or try to)? Live 2 miles south of the intersection of 192 and 27. Know of Lake Louisa state park so far (haven't been nor do I know which lake to concentrate on there), was wondering if theres others out there or if anyone fishes that state park.
  4. this cold weather sucks, took a semester off school (fish for virginia tech) to come down here and catch some pigs havne't done that to say the least...letting the big boat sit today setting up the kayak then looking for some places to fish with it around me (intersection of 192 and 27 davenport) any one know of any close by? toho tomorrow anyone want to join me send me a pm always looking for someone to fish with (fishing out of 18.5 ft ranger so theres room for more than just my lonesome)
  5. Could you send me info on this KBF I went on their website and couldn't find a "catch" theres got to be something. Do you have to pay a certain amount per entry or purchase a certain amount of gear from their site to be eligible? Thank you.
  6. havne't got out since the cold spell, but should be out there this weekend i'll post a report afterwards (although i'm bringing the roommates who are more interested in laying out and getting some sun so not so sure how serious of fishing i'll get to be doing
  7. thanks for the advice i'll look into that prop before i bite the bullet and spend the money on a MK
  8. how would i go about lubing those and with what?
  9. its like the motor will just give up once the going gets tough, haven't tried sharpening definitely a good idea but on the pot i know it'll still get boged down even so i'd just like it to not quit like my friend's does. Most of my buddies bass boats as soon as you left it up out of the water it'll cut itself free.
  10. I have a 81# thrust motorguide trolling motor (tour edition or something like that) that came with my 02' ranger. I fish the Potomac and now Toho often trying to cut through intense grass. I realize i is probably somewhat normal for a TM to quit when tied up with too much grass but my trolling motor takes it to an extreme, and my friend this apst weekend said his 46# minnkota does a much better job. Even when lifting it out of the water to try and help it out it usually will not cut it and I wil have to manually remove the grass. Is this the trolling motors fault or batteries (I charge my batteries before every outing)?
  11. Do I need to lubricate the steering cables? I have some WD-40 and boought some marine silicone, was trying to decide which to use to lubricate it. Any Help Would be appreciated. This question arised when my Motorguide 81# thrust tour something another trolling motor messed up on me this past weekend. Caused me to realize upon my attempts to fix it that the steering cable had been off one of the wheels and rubbing on a bolt for years I'm sure (had cut 2/3 of the way through the bolt).
  12. Is Richardson's Fish Camp safe for boat storage? I called them yesterday they simply have a field with no security around it but there only charging $50/month. The other place I'm looking at is a little out of the way for me on my way to Toho in the morning but is secure...but also charges more. Also if anyone is feeling generous to share some super secret fishing spots, i'll be trying my hand at toho for my first time over the next 4 months during my internship with disney. I fish for Virginia Tech, so i imagine florida fishing will be pretty different from my Smith Mountain Lake. Let me know, merry christmas and God Bless.
  13. hey keep me updated if you can, i fish for Virginia Tech but will be doing a co-op with disney so i'll be in the area and have my boat down there with me. I'll still have full time status with tech so i know i'm eligible for the flw college series assume i should be good with any college tournaments y'all are having...also any advice on boat storage down there i'm still trying to figure something out.
  14. volunteering my boat huh andrew? haha yea i'm down we going ice fishing?
  15. Yea talked to Mark on the phone a this past week actually, the only advice he had for me was to look into all the self storage facilities around the area only problem is i'd have no way to charge my batteries using them, and their storage units aren't the right size
  16. If anyone has any further advice please help me out, I've looked at tens of these different storage facilities and they all have no electric hook-up. If anyone has any ideas or property I'm willing to pay rent of course just need (really really) want my boat down there if i'm going to be living within 15 minutes of toho.
  17. Hi just got word I got a co-op position at Disney this coming semester. What boat storage is available in this area, anyone have any recommendations? I'm willing to pay some money as I can't pass up the opportunity to have my boat with me with so many lakes so close by. Please help me out if you have any information.
  18. I'm applying to do a co-op at disney this coming semester, I know theres no shortage of lakes around orlando but i will most likely be limited to my jon boat as i doubt i'll be able to find storage for my bass boat. What lakes would you recommend fishing if all i have is my 14' jon with an 8 hp.
  19. Hi I have a 2002 Merc XR6, yesterday was probably my tenth trip in the new boat and I had not encountered this problem yet. Problem is after going through some rough water on my way back to the ramp to pick up a friend when I went to start the motor again it was stuck in neutral. (once i shifted to neutral to turn off the motor it would not go back in forward) I figured out that the shift linkage came loose (it is not a broken cable), and was able to fix it on the fly. Problem is I had to fix it on the fly 4 more times throughout the day. Pretty annoying having to take the cowling off and make this fix in order to run to my next spot. Did I break off a piece that would hold the linkage in place? I could not see anything that looked broken and could not locate any pieces floating around in the motor. I will take some pictures in a little bit if need be.
  20. join our team, were always looking for new memebers and we have plenty of boats this coming season i just bought myself a 02' ranger...www.bassfishingteamatvt.com screw ponds and "fishing holes" we all fish claytor a good amount, and tear up the smallies out of kayaks on the new (and the occasional musky) let me know if you want any more information at work now so can't write much, tight lines
  21. Have a tournament on Norman North Carolina this weekend never seen the lake, and have class on friday so can't prefish it any advice would be greatly appreciated. PM me if you want. Thanks. -Mike
  22. Anyone know anywhere to purchase marine grade plywood for adding a casting deck to the rear of my boat in the Northern Virginia area (fairfax county)?
  23. Alright finally got a Minn Kota Edge bow mount trolling motor to replace my old tiller controlled bow mount trolling motor, pretty much just wanted the foot control. I have a couple of questions I was hoping someone could answer. First off the power is ran to the foot control which seems stupid to me as I'd like to be able to move the foot control around a little bit without dragging a wire around on the deck. It appears I could pull the power wire out from the encased rubber wire casing so that it runs directly out of the head of the trolling motor then just wrap it around the shaft and into the deck on my jon boat where I have power already wired to. Any problem with this idea? I feel like most of the foot controlled trolling motors don't have the power wires running from the foot pedal itself, either that or I just never noticed it. Hope this makes some sense and thanks.
  24. P.S. any VT guys please look into the team at tech go to bassfishingteamatvt.com if interested were the number one team ranked in the nation and joining the team has cut the cost of fishing in half for me with all the free rods, discounted reels etc that we get besides its a good group of guys to fish with while down at school and good way to see the east coast (been to a bunch of states i had never been to for tournaments) PM me if you have any questions
