the only noticeable differences between my USDM revo rocket and my JDM revo elite IB9 is the finish, the flat-bottom spool and the clicking drag on the elite.

in 2014, TW's labor day sale started on labor day (monday) and ran for 5 days for 15% off. in 2013, their "labor day" sale started august 26th and ended on august 30th...it actually ended before labor day! it was also for 15% off.

i heard the same thing so i upgraded my tatula flipping stick for the zillion flipping stick...same specs and within 0.2 ounces of each other but they feel completely different :-(

well, the same handle cannot fit shimano AND abu-garcia or daiwa..the driveshaft diameters on shimanos is smaller than the others. so, i sure as heck hope they ask you which one you want when you order.

well, at least the casitas is a 150-size reel, versus the 200-size of the curado/citica. now, lew's, on the hand, has a gazillion reels in the same price range

let me see if i can help. the alphas is daiwa's midsize JDM reel . the original alphas was purple and came out in 2004 (the USDM version was released in 2005, was painted oranged and renamed the 'sol'). subsequent alphas were only tweaked a little bit here and there with changes to the paint color, types and number of ball bearings, gear ratios, the handle and/or knobs, and the type and size of the spool. in daiwa-speak, the number in the model name correspond to the spool depth where 100 is standard size, 103 is mid-size, and 105 is shallow (best for finesse). the alphas 150H is a total outlier though because it's not really an alphas but a larger reel on a different platform.

you're not alone at all. in fact, i believe that's the reasoning behind the medium-fast action of the megabass orochi XX leviathan.

josh, my guess is that the 2mm difference between the 7mm outside diameter and the 5mm inside diameter is just too skinny to fit a raceway and ball bearings into. fisher-o-men, i see what you did there

afaik, there is no such thing. in fact, i've been looking for 5x7x2.5 bearings for a long time as that would allow me to put shimano and daiwa knobs onto my lews handles. what reel do you have? my shimanos and daiwas all use 4x7x2.5s under the knobs while my lews/revos use 5x8x2.5s.

purely a matter of personal taste. some people like slower actions when fishing reaction baits because it gives the fish more time to take the lure deeper into their mouths. my kistler carbon steel "blades, buzz and chatter baits" rod feels very similar in action to my megabass orochi XX spinnerbait special. i also have couple of the g.loomis spinnerbait rods, the SBR812C and SBR813C, both of which are rated extra fast. i enjoy those too...i think i'm more accurate casting spinnerbaits with them but i think i get more short strikes on them too.

i'd definitely recommend the 2015 kistler carbon steel "blades, buzz and chatterbaits" rod. 6'9" medium-heavy power/moderate-fast action, 4.0 ounces and feels great.

i have the helium3 in MH/XF 7'1" spinning. i would definitely rule out the H/XF as way too powerful. if you're pitching your jigs, i'd be more inclined to go MH/XF. if you're casting them, i think an XF taper will give you fits and you'd be better off with the LMH/F.

hooligan is correct about daiwa not making BPS reels. there have been one or two that were BPS "exclusives" but they were still branded as daiwas. as for the prolites, the original ones were the "prolite finesse" reels...they were gold-colored and there were three generations of them: PRL05H, PRL05HB and PRL05C. the first two shared the same centrifugal/magnetic braking system as pfluegers of the time which i believe were manufactured by doyo. some people referred to these as "the poor man's alphas/sol" because they were very good performers with lighter lures at 1/3 the cost of the daiwas. BPS then came out with the "carbonlite" reels...they were also gold-colored and were introduced at the same time as the prolite finesses were discontinued so people obviously got them confused. however, these were very different reels than the prolite finesses, moving from 05-sized frames to larger 10-size frames, about the same as abu-garcia revos. lightweight casting performance was not as good but these were very good reels as well. after awhile, BPS discontinued the gold carbonlite reels and replaced them with the "johnny morris carbonlites" (confused yet?). the first-generation ones were dark grey and the current ones are white. i traced the lineage of these to dawon (also south korean). every so often, BPS tries to captialize on the prolite name by reaching into the spare parts bins and offering limited-run reels with names like "prolite special". as far as i can tell, these are glommed together by the same chinese company that is making the current BPS extreme reels.

pure fishing is a holding company that owns several different brands (abu-garcia, pflueger, penn, etc.); they don't actually manufacture anything.

yes, shimano and daiwa own their own factories and design/build their own reels. daiwa has on occasion made some of the house-brand reels (e.g., cabela's) but they usually label them as "engineered by daiwa". one of the biggest contract reel manufacturers is doyo in korea (revos, lew's, some BPS). there are a few other big contract manufacturers in asia (dawon, silstar, etc.). some abu round reels are still made in sweden.

revo and lew's knobs are interchangeable. revo handles also fit as do daiwa handles (daiwa knobs, however, are not interchangeable as they fit on 4mm knob shafts and lew's/revo fit on 5mm). if you like huge knobs, there's the lew's double power handle for only $40:

i have both the NRX 822S DSR and the 852S JWR. i think the 822S will fit the bill for you nicely. i bet you'll end up with both eventually anyway

i did sell the chronarch...nothing wrong with the reel, just did not like the red bling on the reel. that's exactly the same reason i'm trying to sell my zodias rod now. i still have the scorpion 1001XT. even though i've only been able to fish with it once in the three years i've owned it, i really dig it and plan to keep it.
