Tip, I was watching a Bill Dance show where he was fly fishing for bass. From a side view camera I could see short strikes happening behind his flys. This tells me to make sure I wear my polarized glasses and focus behind my flys as I also do behind my lures. I don't think they spotted the short strikes on the show. Watch for the bass fly fishing Bill Dance show on reruns. Watch closely behind the flys. This has taught me to watch the water too.

Bill Dance is ok. But I like the InFisherman guys, Dime Store fisherman guys, Jerry McKinnis, or watching our pros here like Glenn, Hank Parker, ect explain everything to us too. Besides what they say watch how they use the rod too. I caught some newer guys on you tube I think it's "I Fisherman" or something like it. They seem cool too. I like Charlie Moore too he fishes with celebs at times. I wish Glenn would do an hour ESPN educational fishing show with the rest of the guys here but thank God we have them on you tube. We need evening fishing shows at 4;30pm to 7:00pm. Great to watch while eating supper?

I been collecting the steel bait casting rods and the telescopic steel fly rods besides the old lures. I have my own fishing museum even with my first fishing equipment too. Even the very first plastic hard body cranks catch my eye. Not too old but unique looking. I wonder how safe are the steel rods in a lightening storm?

No matter how big we can't control what size fish will bite. I say set your drag on the edge of the test of your line leaving it adjusted so it can take a hard strike and enjoy the fight of the larger fish play him.

I been thinking of trimming them but Sieberts Outdoors jigs seem to be better than the others.

I do catfish this way the minute there caught.

Watch bps for clearances on DVD' s too. I watch fishing and gunsmithing dvds all winter. I'm learning gunsmithing.

No relationship is perfect. Even at being married for 40 years it's still a work in progress. We never argue but we understand each other's needs and respect that. We need to do things we both like and dislike at times. I go with mine to plays at times. It's ok but I'm a big burly steelworker, ironworker kind of guy. I just don't belong watching Sally met Harry with kissy, kissy, and huggy, huggy while I'm thinking about that next 4am bass trip the whole time but I go. Harmony and happiness comes first. After 40 years she likes shooting with me. Go figure how many times she refused to go. Her girl friend and co worker is like my sister and now my misses is wanting to try everything now. I'm taking them both fishing soon. Shooting too. My misses took the ccw course and has her own gun I purchased for her. She likes shooting paper. Life is short and flies by so enjoy everyday.

Sometimes a picnic lunch helps. Or a nice dinner out and a movie. You need to bond tighter with her. You need to win her over to the outdoors. The ratio of women fisherman in my family is 4 to 2. That's four that fishes.

I'm going to preach to the choir again it's Father Bill, Overcast days, Brighter colors chartreuse is your friend. Inline spinners, like Joe's fly in firetiger apache (glo chartreuse) I would stand there in the pouring warm rain and challenge myself to see what color worked. The vibration of the Joe's fly inline 1/4oz bass inline spinner is perfectly tuned and matched color wise to the low light condition. I threw the norm out the window when I seen the light. Amen. Don't forget a shot of bass scent too. Once the action starts a rainy day can be your best action ever. I caught 19 bass from shore using the Joe's fly and two weird looking pink and white looking sunfish shaped fish. I have no clue as to what they were. After the action at my one spot I stopped on the way home at another hot shore fishing spot and caught two 2 1/2/3# smallies and one 3# large mouth. I never caught or seen a smallie caught here locally. That little Joe's fly earned its keep. I been in touch with Joe of Joe's fly to make a #3 Joe's fly bass size. I know the man is very busy trying to keep with his line up now. His smaller spinfly in blackgnat is a trout killer here. One more thing to try out of my fishing bible. As the bite is on with Joe's 1/4oz blackgnat and as the light disappears and the bite slows does and the light turns towards dusk try a Joe's fly in fire tiger apache. The basses eyes adjust quicker to the change in the lighting than the baitfishes eyes do making them easy prey. As it turns to dusk then to twilight at this time the chartreuse inline glo spinner will land a few more bass. Trust me it's a shore fishing trick I've used often. Ok one more chapter from my fishing bible told. Amen Remember in the light fish the lure color to the water conditions, as the light conditions changed use brighter colored lures, in the dark it's dark colored lures.

How did you know that I did this while respooling? Darn I thought I was alone. I think breaking rods is due to stepping on them then they fracture on hook sets.

Real Italian food is awesome. Much better than the knock off stuff. I moved out of a big city back in the early to raise my kids in a better environment. I moved to a small town. After about spending 30years there it was time to bail out. The city people followed me too because of the lower cost of the housing. As the market starting dropping I purchased a place more into the country. In another small town. I'm in the small farm area. But now the farms are being sold to developers who turn the fields into building lots. It happened to the first small town we moved to. They put new houses in less than 1/4 acre lots. People are packed in like sardines there. At the new town the building lots can't be no smaller than 1 1/2 acres. Everyone has guns here and they all shoot on there farms. It's great living in a town where I hear peaceful target gun fire. It's the sound of freedom. We Have deer, bears, Turkey's, bobcat, lynx, mountainlion, it's wild America in my backyard. If I were younger I'd be in Alaska or the southwest. My point is if your still young go were the fishing is good and the hunting is good too. My camp in vt is good I can shoot off my porch. But it's becoming a liberal state slowly but surely. Right now in the northeast maine looks good.

Lizzards or water dogs. Both of these eat the bass eggs.

Fish on bed either a lizzard or water dog plastics they eat bass eggs and the bass hate them. Just cast it on the beds and twitch it. I use a 1/8oz brass weight with a 24" leader (C-Rig) with senkos. It's just enough weight to cast it.

Orange bottom cranks are hotter. The chartreuse, yellow great combination for stained water or low light conditions. Now you need to make the rest of the colors. I was on vacation in Maine one September when Kittery Trading Post was having there fall clearance end of summer bash. There prices are unbelievable. I purchased a #5 fly rod list $400 that's rod, reel, line and leader ready to go. They put the line on and tied the leader too for $125. The very first time I fished a fly rod was this setup. I had a blast one evening. I targeted pan fish. It was dark by the time I got to the car. I put the rod in the back hatch. Not thinking I opened the front door and closed it and heard a snap. One of those it's not a tree branch snap. Being tired I cut 6" off the top of my new Awesome fly rod. It was the most expensive rod I purchased to date. This is one reason I didn't purchase very expensive rods I'm careless with them. I have gotten better lately. Be careful when handling our equipment and how we store them.

Is the spawn happening? There in the north section of the body of water that gets the sun all day. That maybe the spawning area too. We have deer here every 2 to 3 days now I haven't seen them lately there having there young.

A company my son works for manufactures split rings that open up when a certain pound test is reached. They come in all different test ratings. I do carry a lure retriever too.

Don't sell the bargain bin at tackle shops too. Onetime I walked into Dicks Sporting goods and purchased some of the cheaply made "producers" orange colored spooks. On a slow day that orange caught bass after bass. Don't over look the bargain rack in your mom and pop bait shops too. Those old lures still catch fish. It's good to throw something different. Give our sponcer valley sports a look see too.

Don't forget the torpedo's big and small too.

I keep my tackle boxes open at home after each trip so things can't rust. My lures from 15 years ago still look new except for teeth marks on some of them. I keep my used salted plastics in zip loc bags seperate from my new plastics in a seperate tackle box. Salt mixed with moisture near my cranks rusts hooks in a closed tackle box. If there stored in the same tackle box. I use scents a lot and sometimes tackle boxes can get funky smelling. I wash my lures by soaking them in a dish soap pan. I pressure wash my tackle box. This gets done two or three times a season. But lately I'm using less scents amount wise.

In any two stroke piece of equipment I own I use only the manufacturers oil and mix it to there specs so it gets burned up properly. I wonder how many follow the manufacturers specs. I run two strokes too. We have a Briggs & Stratton 5hp outboard four stroke and love it too.

We can't put a price on fun now can we. I'm lucky I guess some seasons I may lose one or no lures. Is there an average loss of lures per year that's the nature of the breast acceptable to you? I can accept losing one per year. But I have lost more bps topnockers than any other lure. The rapala original floater F 7 in blue is second. I would hate to lose the $10 and up lures
