Long Haul with Tracker boat
I have pulled several models of glass/aluminum boats for long periods of time only stopping for gas and never had a problem. I always check the trailer hubs when I stop, for excessive heat and make sure everything is still tight and secure. Check the "Fishing Articles" section of this site. Go to "Bass Boat Tips" and look for the articles titled "Trailer Basics", Tips for Trailering" and "Towing your Boat". Once you have digested all that information you should be in good shape. Be SAFE and catch some "big'uns" Shortbasser

Booyah Boogee Bait
They have produced for me. I use the Chartreuse/White (Limesicle). Fish it pretty slow like a spinner bait. Best catch on it was last week. Nice 5 lb. fish that really nailed it. At times fish will just swim off with it and you might miss a strike. I have found that if the vibration stops.......Set the hook. Shortbasser

Bass Pro Shops XPS Weight Balance Kit
They work just fine. I have them on all my BPS Extreme rods and as someone said I have less hand/arm fatigue. I have a bit of arthritis in my hands and this definitely helps. Balanced all at the reel seat with the reels in place. Shortbasser

Boat covers
After 2 leaky, sloppy fitting custom covers from the folks at Aurora, both made of Sunbrella material I finally got my money back and went with a custom cover made locally. It is Top Gun material and 100 % waterproof. It fits my Skeeter like a glove and looks like new after 2 years of use. The Aurora covers were ordered thru the dealer and even Skeeter couldn't help with the leaky, lousy fit. They even re-treated the first one and it was worse the second time around. Shortbasser

BASS membership
Appears you misunderstood my post. The refund is coming from B.A.S.S. and not BPS. The deal at Cabela's was sweetened just a tad with a $20 rebate too and Abu Garcia is also running a $10 rebate on the reels. Sure seems like a deal to me. Just fyi I have purchased 2 other Revo's all from BPS. Don't reckon they will miss this purchase. They "own" me already. ;D Shortbasser

BASS membership
I got tired of all the early re-newal mail a while back and did the Life Member thing. Long before ESPN got involved and if it were today I doubt I would be a member, Period. Along those lines this is what happened to me recently. A number of years ago I subscribed to another BASS publications called Bass Times. It came time to re-new it and I kept putting it off because it was months till it expired. Finally stroked the check and just barely after the check cleared the bank I get another re-newal notice. I promptly wrote a slightly nasty note on the re-newal form telling them to check their records and mailed it back in their "no postage" reply envelope and figured that was the end of it. I did feel better too. Much to my surprise a couple weeks later I get a letter from BASS thanking me for my "inquiry" and telling me that they had screwed up and the Bass Times publication was included in my Life Membership and they were refunding me all my money spent since the time I became a Life Member. WOW. I haven't gotten my refund check YET, but I did take the time to whip an order off to Cabela's for another Revo STX and plan to get it wet tomorrow. I guess it sometimes pays to vent your frustration with some of these organizations. Might get lucky as I did.

i'm going to give flourocarbon another shot
I have been using Gamma for 2 seasons now. It definitely has less memory and is softer than all of the other brands I have used. Granted it is expensive but I only use it for plastics. Haven't replaced it this year and so far no problems. I occasionally use a conditioner which helps with the "lashes". I like the KVD brand. Not sticky and lasts longer. I gave up on Stren/BPS/Triplefish and P-line. Too much memory with all of those brands. Shortbasser

charlie brewer slider worms
I have been fishing Slider Worms for a lot of years. Usually rig it on a 2/0 worm hook and just swim it back or fish it like any other worm (drag and drop). I have caught a lot of fish on the brown/orange color. That is my "go to" bait when I need some fish. I buy all mine direct from them also. They will provide you with a copy of their catalog and an order blank. Can order via the phone also. Friendly/helpful folks. Good web site too. Shortbasser

Re: My Chatterbaits keep breaking
I have been using the Booyah brand since last fall and have had no problems. They do hang up on occasion but not all the time. Have not had one come apart. Also if you want a chatterbait with a weed guard take a look at the one's made by Venom. They have a weed guard and the blade is attached with a split ring. Well made lure. They come in 1/4 and 3/8 sizes. You can buy additional blades and split rings in a kit. They also have a rattle attached. I have modified one of them with the blade from the Booyah but have yet to fish it. Have a hunch I am going to like it. I only have 1 of the original Chatterbaits and must agree it is a cheap bait. Not impressed with it. Shortbasser

Lowe 160W and fumes?
You must have gotten a manual for the boat. It should explain all the systems. Tank has to be vented as mentioned in an earlier post. Might want to check the fuel connections at the motor but my guess is some of what you smell could very well be "new boat" smells after been covered for a while. If in doubt and it persists I would be making a trip to the dealer to make sure all is well. Shortbasser

Taking plastics outta the bags
Mine stay in the original bags and I put them in double worm binders made by Bass Pro Shops. They also have small pockets for hooks/weights/etc so it gets all of it organized in one spot. Replacement envelopes can be purchased and they are large enough to get 2 or 3 packs of baits in each one. Just have to keep them organized by type and color. works for me. Shortbasser

spinnerbait wire/tackle storage
Well, I use those Falcon boxes and if you lay the baits in on their back (hook up) and lock it in the slot and then take the blade wire and lock it in the slots on the upright post it will not fall out. Work just fine for me. I am not crazy about the wallet types. Have one with the zipper pouches and they eat skirts quite frequently. Shortbasser

Booyah Boogie Bait vs Chatterbait
Booyah Boogie Bait. Started fishing it and the Rad Chatterbait this past fall and have yet to catch a fish on the Rad. That Boogie bait is a fish catcher for sure. My only gripe is that it will hang up quite often. Lots of structure where I fish. Straight slow roll type retrieve has produced the best results. Found that if you don't feel the vibration it is a good idea to "set the hook". They will just inhale it and swim off with it. Just purchased some of Venom's baits (Rattle Shake). Am hoping the weed guard on this one will take care of the structure problems. Shortbasser

iIs there a new floro with low memory? Halo
I have used several different brands of Fluorocarbon lines and finally gave the new Gamma brand a try. It has the least amount of memory of any I have used and that includes P-line, Triple Fish, Stren, and BPS. The Gamma is expensive but so far I am not fighting the memory problems. A little over a year and I like it. Use it exclusively for all my Plastics. Good stuff. Shortbasser

mercury motors & Ethanol
That E-10 crap hit our area this past spring. It is supposed to be in use all over the U.S. before too long. I run a 2005 Yamaha 200 HPDI and have not been in a spot where I had to use that new crap. I did take Yamaha's advice and installed the Fuel/water separator and so far have not had any problems. My buddy runs an older Yamaha and he had to purge his system twice. Once before installing a separator and once after since it loosened all the gunk in his tank and it sure caused the motor to run rough. Barely made it back to the ramp. I did some research on this crap when the scare hit here and it is some nasty stuff. Really hazardous to older fuel systems. There are several additives you can buy to help the water problem. Yamaha doesn't recommend you use them last I checked. They have additives that they recommend. Keep a close eye on your rigs come spring after being set up for winter. Could experience some problems with fuel separation and water. > Shortbasser

Spool-Filling mystery.....
I had that same problem some years back and cured it all when I got me a Berkley Spooling Station. I don't have to fight the rods any longer. It has an adjustable tension for the line spool and eliminates the lopsided spooling. Works with both BC and spinning reels. Makes re-spooling an easy chore even out on the water. Good investment. Line looks like a slinky !
I use the P-line fluoroclear on most of my baitcasters but gave up on their fluorocarbon. Memory was pretty bad on the fluorocarbon. No "slinky" problems on the mono. I do use KVD's line conditioner most of the time and that does help. I change my line at least every spring. Remove whatever line I added the previous time. Shortbasser

Need Help To Find Reel Repair For Cabelas Prodigy
Go to the "home" page and click on Links/rods and reels. Scroll to the bottom and there you will find the dope for 4 reel repair/service outfits. Might find some help right there. I have used both Reelmech and Foran. Reelmech has 2 of my reels right now. Shortbasser

Electronics Covers
Yep ! The folks at Cabelas have what you need. Check under "fishing", "boating electronics", Sonar accessories. They got all the major brands covered. Several years ago I purchased a cover from them for my Eagle and it left with the boat when I sold it. Elasticized neoprene. Good Stuff. Shortbasser

another baitcaster
A couple of months ago I bought a Abu Revo STX and for $199.99 I am just thrilled with it. Easy to adjust the brake and that drag is awesome. My only problem right now is justifying the itch I have for a mate for it.

Do NOT open the packages. Write REFUSED, DID NOT ORDER on it and give it back to your letter carrier. They get charged for return postage and sooner or later they should get the message. I used to get them all the time to return for my customers. Book clubs are notorious for that. The key is NOT OPENING them. Shortbasser Retired USPS letter carrier

expose/don't expose hook on plastic worms
Weedless all the way. I am primarily fishing a creek off the Intercoastal Waterway and it is nothing but structure. I'd be spending most of my time re-rigging if I didn't go weedless. Never had a problem with hooksets. Worm rods, fluorocarbon line and Gammy hooks to match the size/thickness of the baits gets the job done. Cypress trees/knees just love exposed hooks.
