With the scum frog type baits sometimes if you bend the hooks up just a little bit it will help with your hook ups. Another thing is to give them a good two or three count before you set the hook. If they miss the bait all together then have a back up. Throw a senko or a buzzfrog to the spot of the blowup and just let it sink. Be ready for the bite.

Thanks for all the great ideas guys. I went yesterday to prefish and they were bad. I still managed to land a few nice smallies though. I used a smoke colored yamamoto grud on a jighead. LBH was right on the money! Thanks again everyone, I can always count on good info here!

Here's my problem. I fish Muskegon Lake in Michigan and it dumps into Lake Michigan through a channel. Well right now the alewives are in so thick you could almost walk on them. What kind of bait can I throw that the smallmouth bass are going to notice over a million alewives? I was thinking of a rattle trap or an X-rap but I'm just not sure. Any ideas would be great.

Hey everyone, I was hoping to get some info on different bass clubs around the Muskegon to Ludington area. I would like to fish some Saterday tourneys but I've only found a few so far. I bought a 17 ft. sea nymph with 115 evenrude last spring that has a whale tale on it. This boat practicly jumps up onto plane! I would highly recommend it to anybody looking for a better hole shot. I absolutely love it!
