  1. cool man, good Luck, mayble i swing by, hope you land in the $$
  2. I fish the Senkio exclussively wacky style. The only two colors I use, which i've found productive, are a watermellon/Pearl and a natural/pumpkinseed color with a chartruse tip on one end. I use a small dentail Rubberband or two (braces rubber band) to hold the senko to the hook. helps keep the lure on after a few bites
  3. Thanks, i'll stop by FH to pick up a TOPO map Quan what time is weigh in Sunday? Might stop by again to see all the bass I couldnt catch LOL!!
  4. Smart idea to have a General NoVa thread. I'll be sure to follow. Last few weekends I've been down in Locust Grove, VA fishing at Lake of the Woods where my folks live. caught a fair amount of 1-2.5 lb bass, all on Wacky Rigged Senko. I love that I catch fish on this bait, but hate the fact that its a slow, time consuming presentation. I 'm reluctant to switch it up because the few times I've thrown crankbaits or spinnerbaits, I haven't had a bite Saturday morning I think my brother and I will be launching from Lake Ridge Marina to try the Occoquan Res. We usually use the boat to crab in the summer, but with the crabbing reports being really bad, decided to try the boat for fishing. That being said, anyone with advice for the Res as far as colors/baits etc., I'm all ears!
  5. Any color this time if year you noticed produces best?
  6. Anyone have a Topo map of the Res? Where can I purchase one? Gonna try my luck Saturday Morning. probably launching from lake ridge marina, paying the $6 daily ramp fee. Should I look for shoreline structure/cover early morning nd then main points and drop as the day heats up?
  7. LOL Got a point!!
  8. Quan what were they hitting? bunch of others fishing the Spillway? When i was there last month must have been bout 6-7 others fishing the Spill way. does anything BIG ever get washed over the spillway?
  9. I hit up Royal a few weeks ago and Crosspoint. Havent done any local fishing the last three weeks though.
  10. High water pull the fish in closer to shore?
  11. I live bout 12 minutes from the lake and have only fished iot once from shore this year. Havent fished it previously in about 10 years. but I do remember seeing about 5 pound bass I hooked on a grub and small jig head break the surface and shake my lure. people will say its heavily fished, but i still think there are quality bass. If you ever have an open seat on your john boat, I'd luv to fish Burke with you any time after work during the week or perhaps on a weekend.
  12. spend a few hours tinkering with the brakes and the spool tension. and practice feathering the cast the last 10 feet or so of the cast before it hits the water. Don't go out fishing as "practice" you will spend more time with your lure out of the water, than fishing, I'm speaking from experience. and while the more expensive reels wont prevent backlashes, I think you can find one in the $100 ball park that will work for you and be of good quality. when tuned up for the bait your throwing and with practice, you shouldnt have any issues.
  13. oh thanks for the heads up
  14. Quan.."Tx" meaning tournament? if thats the case I'll try and get out Saturday instead,.
  15. WOW...Govt screwing us in all guys of ways LOL...
  16. Can you just pay a daily launch fee Quanjig?
  17. Since Im staying in town this weekend, i might give it a shot Sunday.
  18. George i feel the same way. what would happen if we all showed up when they start draining and each took 30-40 bass to different lakes in the area?
  19. Dude 10lb braid is pointless.. Braid is used when fishing heavy cover...tree's , docks,. or heavy heavy lilly pads and stuff. and then you want 40-70lb test braid. I suggest 12-17lb Florocarbon. and Baitcasters took me a while to learn too. if your unsure how to set it up google it or youtube. adjust the brakes for the lure you put on (changes with each lure) . Also you have to thumb the spool lightly feathering it as the bait nears the water. this prevents the spool from still spinning and causing a birdsnest. which happens from time to time...but a lot less frequently with practice. check out this video on a cool wy to get out birdsnest... http://www.bassfishin(DOT)(COM) search videos and scroll down you'll find it
  20. Is he above me talking about Accotink? its not a clear lake, its stained, and with the rain we had it'll be muddy for a few days. It's not tht deep either, its a fairly shallow lake. Its mostly fished from shore, so I wouldnt even know where y ou would launch from. I've only been once recently, but Im pretty sure the guy above me is not talking about Accotink near Backlick/495
  21. I went with my cousin about a month ago. seemed to be at normal level, but I havent been there since I was a kid. a few people fishing below the d**n. above the d**n bunch of floating debri and sticks and stuff... Didnt catch a thing, but my cousin caught a bass and a shad in the creek below the d**n the week before.
  22. I found that let them sink to the bottom,. give them a little twitch. Drag/swim it a few feet let it sink, twitch and repeat. eventually when ou go to drag, you'll feel the weight of the fish and You set the hook!
  23. You mentioned a topo map of the Res. Where can I purchase one?
  24. https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc1/1002735_10200516132000728_403241153_n.jpg One of the better bass I've caught from LOW...think its about 3 plus or minus a few ounces. I actually found a small school of bass last weekend in the afternoon on a Senko wacky style. I fish from my dads' fish./ski boat with out a depth finder so I know one or two spots I;'ve caught fish in before. Wish I had a bass boat or could fish as a coangler on a boat with electronics to do more scouting down at LOW
