  1. So I've read numerous articles about fishing diving and lipless crankbaits over grassbeds so that the bait is ticking the tops of the grass/weeds. obviously you expect to get hungup some and you are suposed to rip the bait out and thats what entices the strike. I've always wondered if pieces of hydrilla or millfoil on a treble hook deturs a bass from biting? Anytime I feel my bait come incontact with grass, and then it alters its wobble or feels heavier, I quickly reel it in to remove the grass. Anyone know if a piece of grass on a bait will prevent a bass from biting? obviously a crankbait or even a worm with grass looks less natural, right? So how does one exactly tick the top of the grass beds, get hung up and rip it free with out grass being caught on the treble hooks and still get bites? Any advice, tips and know-how would be Awesome!! thanks!
  2. Cool, I'm willing to try them. Fishing at all Sunday? Only free day I have this weekend. Have two back to back gigs on Saturday.
  3. I think maybe my hook is a size or two small. I have 2/0 worm hooks, EWG..would that work? Guess I need to buy 1/0 wacky hooks. using #1 might be a bit too small. Im doing side sweep hook. I fish the lure by casting it out and letting it sink. then I real the slack up and hold my rod tip low(waist height) to the side i drag it about a foot and shake the tip. shake the tip again and drag. I often feel the bite by when I go to drag the worm..it feels extra heavy, thats when I sweep hard and set the hook. I have heard about keeping my finger on the line, never done it before but I'll try to mke it a force of habit.
  4. I use 10 # flouro on my light tackle rod that I fish the wacky rig with....
  5. I feel the bass are only up shallow for the first hour or two of day light, then they move deeper 10+ ft to cooler water as the day progresses. kinda hard to reach them from the shore during the day, unless you find a point that drops off fairly quickly.
  6. Ive just started using them this year also, and rig it wacky style. ive only fished about 5 times this year but the 4 outta 5 times I did catch fish, it was on this rig. brown/watermellon/pumpkinseed colors work best for me....
  7. Ive just had more success on wacky rig, but haven only just started fishing the bait the last 4-5 times out. Bending down the barb sounds like the answer or trying a circle hook. I know thats what they use for live bait when fishing for large game fish in the ocean. Red Earth....is there a link that talks about removing the hook throguh the gill plate? never heard of it.
  8. <img src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc1/1002735_10200516132000728_403241153_n.jpg"> One of two bass I caught Sunday afternoon at Lake of the Woods on my parents boat. had 4 back to back bites in the span of 10 minutes, missed the first two fish (passed the rod to my GF so she could catch her first bass, and he got off). But the last two fish I landed, were both gut hooked. Fortunately I was able to get the hook out with little damage to the fish, and they both survived. I'm setting the hook as soon as I feel the fish, but maybe I'm using the wrong type of hook for the application. its a small #1 J hook. I think its more of a drop shot type of hook, but its all I have on me to fish Senko wacky style. For those of you who do alot of wacky rigging with Senkos, what type of hook is best to still ensure good hook up ratio, but with out the fish swallowing the hook? Thanks!
  9. Hmm, I might just check that out. Im actually headed to LOW this weekend. I know exactly what you mean about lack of cover, well visable cover (lilly pads, grass, etc.). There are ton's of docks but I havent really figured out or caught any bass near docks. I do know that there are supposed to be lots of submerged Tires, brush piles and man made fish structures scattered throught the lake, but I have to get my dad to install a fishfinder on the fish/ski boat. So I have to ask, your tag line says LOW is your favorite place to fish. So you must have some success? Maybe you can show me a thing or two next time we're both down that way?
  10. White huh? cool. dont have any white worms. most of my worms/Senkos are green/brown in color.
  11. nice Fish Georgeyew, How do you fish your Senko? I just tried a few times this year fishing it. Tried Texas rigged, and wacky rigged and only caught one small bass thus far with it wacky rigged.
  12. Nice Georgeyew. What did u catch 'em on?
  13. Good to hear that Quan , thats what local fishing reports that they have good bass in there. But if you talk to people that fish it, they say its too pressured and too tough. Im lazy I guess, I'm not walking a mile just to fish LOL...1/4 mile maybe lmao...guess I need to find a small boat. I have a 14ft fiberglass boat but that requires luanchign with a trailer.
  14. yea somebody fish it and let me know LMAO!!
  15. I've caught small bass up to 1lb in Burke but this was 15-17 years ago. hooked a 4-5lber once there also, guess those memories are what made me try there recently but like I hear everywhere, its too pressured and the bite isn't worth it. I've yet to try mercer, but Im off work Thursday and Might give it a shot. Guess I'll make sure I have my sneakers on since it sounds like theres a lot of walking to do. So from what I understand. Fishing is decent near the dam, and then at the opposite end of Mercer, there's an area of stumps that produce fish as well?
  16. Try a Senko....Fish it slower.... Im like you live in the area and wish i fished as much as you did. I have two jobs so I dont get out much. Where do you access Mercer? Ive wanted to fish there. used to catch bass years ago in Crosspointe, just south of Mercer, and its much smaller. I tried Burke a few weekends ago....got skunked.
  17. I worked all weekend, didnt get a chance to wet a line. Guessing the water will be pretty muddy with the rain for the next few days. Didnt realize I have off Thursday, so I may definitely try and do some fishing then, with fingers crossed that the water clears up by then.
  18. how does/will Dredging the lake affect the Fish/Fishing?
  19. At least you got one!
  20. Buddy of mine caught an 18lb snakehead near where this record fish was caught 2 weeks ago, except he caught it on bow and arrow...
  21. I'm in Springfield, so I think the closest areas would be Belle Haven, or Pohick Bay areas?. I have a 15 ft fiberglass semi-V Wetzel (1979) with a 9.9 HP gas and a small 30lb Transom mt electric trolling motor. Not the best of fishing boats, bought it for running a trotline and crabbing, but dying to get out on the Potomac and it's tributaries to fish from a boat, rather than only from the shore.
