I went through the same thing with two kids one Girl and one Boy and I took them and some of their friends panfish fishing in the begining just for the reason of more catching action and even with that they would find some non fishing things to do on shore. My son split away from fishing as video games and compuer action become more important but my daughter progressed to Bass fishing. They are both 20 something now and when they want to go it's up to them now. When you take a child fishing remember it's about them not you. You and the kids will have plenty of time later. I have used the Everstart batteries from WalMart lasted longer than the Interstate batteries that came with my Deep V good deal for $65. For my new 2011 Nitro Z-7 I'm going with dry cell Odyssey batteries which are a bit pricey. Tight Lines Pa Angler

Oh my Lord is that a Ranger? I think this has turned out to be a debate to transome save or not. A motor lock can and has failed as was told to me by my dealer if you to take a chance on one that's up to you but I won't the transom saver is recomended by boat manufacturers now why would they do that if it didn't matter. Seems there are enough opinions on this anyone needing advice on which way to go see what your boat manufacturer and/or dealer recomends. No one can convince me not to use a transome saver. It's up to you don't make a costly mistake.

Neither one takes into consideration the transom of any manufacture's recomendation. A transom saver will keep a motor from striiking the motor on the ground. My manufacture recomends a transome saver.
