  1. I was walleye fishing before daylight and hung a fish. When I got it to the boat I could tell it was a white bass so I tried to swing it in, after all it was a white bass and they don't get too big. My rod bowed and I banged it into the side of the boat it is a thousand wonders I got it in. It weighed 4lbs. 2ozs. just 14ozs. from the state record. After some deliberation I decided to get a replica made. I have been doing some looking on the web and cannot find a place. Some places do good work but want you to take out a loan. Others just look like junk and still pricey. What is the going rate and where would you go? I have measurements and pictures. I want something that looks like it but I can't afford museum work. Thanks for the help.
  2. I have a 1991 Ranger 361v with a 150 Mercury XR4. It has a 6 inch jackplate. It is set to 3.5 inches above the pad. The way I understand was they came with a small gearcase and 1.78 gears. Lower unit went out . I replaced with a larger gearcase 1.87 gears (was advised that the Mercury had problems with durability on smaller case on the 150). Tried the old prop (23p Turbo) and and did not get the numbers I was getting (63mph) good handling and cruising and acceleration. Several of the lakes I fish have bends in them that prevent you from going wot. So handling and cruising performance are important. Current numbers (GPS speed) 23p Turbo 58mph@wot 6150rpm on larger gearcase (small gearcase prop) 23p Tempest Plus 60.5@wot 5900rpm (cruising performance not so good) 24p Tempest Plus 60.8@wot 5650rpm (cruising performance not so good) Was told by local Ranger dealership that my rpm range is 5500-5800. Where do I go from here? Hole shot has been good for all three. Thought about 24p trophy or a 24p Fury. Maybe I should go back to a 23p Turbo for the large gearcase. I have exhausted all props that I could borrow. Know any places that do loaners in London, KY area? Thanks for the help. Zach
  3. Water pressure around 15 with the 23p tempest @5900rpm wot. Prop shaft center is right at 3.5" below bottom of the boat when parallel. My hole shot is solid. I have asked around and no dealer is willing to loan props, one said I could buy and then return but he doesn't carry higher pitches. Plus once you find the right one they would want you to buy from them. I have found the Tempest for $399 online and the Fury for $479.50 they have I believe all the Mercury props for a lot less.
  4. I had a terrible thing happen this spring lower unit replacement. I had smaller gear case and the new one has a larger gear case(guess Mercury had problems with endurance with the smaller one). I have a 1991 Ranger 361v with a 150 Mercury XR4 Black Max. Previously I was running about 63mph can't recall wot rpm. I put the old prop on 23p Turbo SS which goes to a smaller gear case 58mph @6100rpm. Local dealership says wot rpm should be between 5500 and 5800 and suggest the lower side due to the age of my engine. They have a 23p Tempest Plus (larger gear case) and said it may work to get the rpm down because it is larger gear case. I borrow it and get 60mph @5900rpm. I know that engine height plays in this but it is at the same height as before and the reviews I read say Tempest is one of the best and still not getting the same speed as my old gear case and turbo prop. I am considering 25p Tempest or maybe a 24p Fury but I am weighing my options. The price is big for these and I am not sure is worth it. Nobody has a used Stainless larger than 23p and no one does loners within 50mi. of me. Several marinas have said the 23p tempest is the way to go but I don't have the same speed as before and my rpm is too high. Which is why I was considering motor height could be the problem. What prop do you suggest? brand and pitch and do you consider it worth the money? What motor height should I be at? I have a 6" jackplate. Thanks for the help! Zach
  5. I put together some of more popular $100 rod brands and want to know what you think. Which is the best(or favorite)? Pick 2.
  6. Thanks for the info. Looks I am going to give Yozuri a try
  7. I read another post about a $100 T-rig, C-rig, Jig rod and it seems that Shimano Compre won out. Where is the cheapest place to get one? In researching rods I found the Compre has an IM8 rating and what seemed to be in the running on the other post Allstar rods has a rating of IM10. Is this a standard that all rod makers follow? If so then wouldn't the Allstar at 10 be better? Allstar also has 3 different series of rods with this rating in the price range, any preference of the 3? I have a lite action St. Croix premier rod that I really like for creek fishing. What does everyone think of the Premiers in heavier action and how do they compare with the before mentioned rods? I plan on buying a 7' MH F action. Thanks again for all the info!
  8. I am looking at getting into some dropshotting fishing with my spinning tackle and was wondering what brand of line is the best? I plan on using 8lb. or maybe 6lb. The lake I fish the most is a smaller lake and gets tons of pressure, I have got try something different. I have tried a variety of lines and just can't one that I like for the spinning reel. Several lines just shoot right of the reel with slight pull (you guys know what I am talking about ). Thanks in advance for the advice
  9. What do you guys think of St. Croix Premier rods?
