  1. Carolina Custom Crankbaits. Google it; very affordable for a hand made balsa bait. They were just mentioned in either FLW or BASSMASTER magazine.
  2. I was just looking at those. Fits my needs and budget beautifully. I think I'm going to go with that one. Gives me more features than I need. Love the DSI. How did you mount yours?
  3. I am looking for a small, simple fish finder for my little 14' sea nymph. I'm not looking to spend a lot, it has to be able to read depths up to 30 ft, color would be nice, structure scan would be rediculously wonderful. Any suggestions?
  4. I need a strong, solid pair of hook cutters. I buy cheap shears, and the edges bend. Any suggestions?
  5. That could be true. Without handling it myself, I couldn't possibly know for sure. However, that's the solution to my reels. I guess you just got a dud. Maybe ask DVT on this forum for possible diagnoses?
  6. I own two Gen3 STX's: here's your problem: there is oil on your spool track. All you had to do was open the side plate and, with a tissue, wipe down the spool tracks and the spool itself. I read reviews that state that they are over oiled, and that problem occurs often. It's not the reel, or or manufacturer, just a little oil. Better luck next time!!
  7. I had te same issue. Bending helps.
  8. I feel like the use if a screw lock would inhibit my flipping baits from penetrating cover easily. I want something hydrodynamic in design, and screw locks, for this application, are not the answer. I will edit the thread to be more specific.
  9. Not looking for a corkscrew hook. I want a think strait shank hook. I like te glue idea...
  10. I like Gamakatsu's Heavy Cover Worm hooks, but the bait keeper slides off from time to time. It gets to be an issue. I watched a video of Aaron Martins taking a Superline strait shank hook and, using thread and glue, tied a small piece of weedguard right below the eye to act as a bait keeper. I also have heard of guys using shrink tubing, but I think thread is more effective. Does anyone here make or modify your own flipping hooks? If so, what do you do? What brand hooks do you use and why? I like the looks of Owners strait shanks, but they have no bait keeper. I use the Gammy's because they hold their points, are stout, and have a shorter shank. Please help if you can. Thanks!
  11. I got two Gen3 REVOS in the mail yesterday, spooked them up, and took them out. One was married to a Powell Endurance 7'1" H with 65lb power pro and a SPRO Popping Frog. The second was paired with a 7'3" H Powell Max and 15lb Vicious Fluoro. I could cat that weightless senko half a mile with my reel, and the frog was thrown effortlessly. I had three pins engaged, three locked, and the magnetically on zero. They worked great...
  12. I had a stellar day on the Potomac River in may fishing a Red Eye Shad in a weedbed. I caught two limits before cutting off my bait (1/2 oz Red craw color) and giving it to my partner for him to catch his limit. I switched to a 3/4 oz in the sexy sunfish. I made the size/color change because I had just caught a larger than average bass with a bluegill tail in his throat. I slayed them. However, I don't think it was the size or color, but the retrieve that made the difference... I was strait up violent with my retrieve. I would slow roll it from the moment it hit the water, then when I felt resistance from it being caught in the grass, I would give it three rips in a row HARD out of the weeds, reeling in the whole time. It was literally as fast as I could fish. They clobbered the hell out of it. Go to Bass Master * and watch the tournament on the Kissimmee Chain from around Spring of 2009. KVD won it fishing exactly like I was. In fact, that tournament was my inspiration!
  13. I used to toss SK Series 6 with a mojo crankbait rod (7' m). It'll handle it fine!
  14. Offset? What style?
  15. Looking for opinions. I love dropshoting. And I've always used a #6 Gammy dropshot hook (tiny, I know) and I've had great success! I'm thinking of going to a #2 or #1. What size, brand and model do you prefer for your dropshot rigs? Let me know?
  16. I recently won a club tournament on a very heavily pressured lake here in Pa. The key with it was not whether it was fished vertical or casted, but rather once you made a cast or drop, let your weight fall, and then dead stick your worm, letting the worm fall slowly to the bottom. After 20 or 30 seconds, if you had no bite, reel in and make another cast. I was targeting Hydrilla patches in eel grass beds around 10 ft deep. In Champlain, the bass prefer you keep a tight line and gently wiggle the worm in place. It all depends on where and when your fishing. Get out there and experiment!!!
  17. My Gammy's hold their points better. I hooked a stump the ther day and upon retrieveing my bait, the point was rounded... my Gammy's will bend up on occasion, but it is not easy. I am talking about the flipping hooks, for the record...
  18. Bass Pro Shops in Harrisburg, Pa has some colors for $7.88........... enjoy that twitchy feeling in your belly.......
  19. I want a lefty Tournament Pro in 7.1:1. Does anyone know if my dream is realistic?
  20. Powell Max 7'3" H Fast action flipping stick. I own one. It's very light and ultimately perfect.
  21. 3" Berkley Ripple Shad. Great compact presentation for clear water.
  22. The lakes up by me are awesome. Spend a day in the 'burbs this fall. Look up Clackerbuzz, he is a member on this sight and lives in Center City. He and I fish together sometimes.
  23. I don't...... Yet! I live in Telford, north of Lansdale. Well have to get together sometime.
  24. I would look at Powell's line of crankbait rods. Right now at TW, you can get their Endurance Glass 7' H MF for $119 with the Labor Day sale. Their cranking rods are superb for top waters. I have two rods for tops waters: Max 7' H MF graphite cranking rod, paired withs reel with a 6.4 or 7.1:1 ratio and 30 lb Powerpro. I use that for any hard floating top water under 3/4oz. Then I have their 7'2" MH xf Diesel rod with the same reel and line. This is for small frogs and (mainly) super spooks. Please note: I thin you need to pair the rod with the HOOKS. If you have thin trebles, standard number 6 or 4, then you need a soft rod. However, if you upgrade to 2x trebles, like my spook, those thicker hooks demand a stiffer rod to aid in penetration and holding power, not to mention the monster bass that will take a giant top water. The same philosophy applies to jerkbaits. Good luck!
